How busy was your polling station?

I had to queue at the polling station this morning. That has never happened before. It was at about 07.45, it was raining and I'd have said it's a safe Tory seat where people might think their vote doesn't count.

Anybody else seeing signs of high/low turnout?

Went this evening to beat the crowds. The car park was full, I've never seen that before! I mentioned it to one of the returning officers, he said " it's been like that all day" Smile

luckymagnoliatree · 12/12/2019 20:13

Very quiet at ours at 12 today, i was the only person there! It was pouring it down with rain though & was most of today, so that may have put some people off going out 🤷‍♀️

BuildBuildings · 12/12/2019 20:15

Not busy. So no one in front of me. But then after I'd voted a few people were coming up to the table. This was 11am it was very cold. In a 17k majority labour seat. But with 56% leave vote. The mp is a remainer so who knows!

Absolutely dead 🤷‍♀️

EwDavid · 12/12/2019 20:25

I saw about three other people at 4 this afternoon. It's a very close marginal seat, currently held by labour but in an area that voted overwhelmingly to leave. I never usually see anyone but still depressingly quiet.

DesertIslandPenguin · 12/12/2019 20:29

The car park was rammed at our polling station. I had to wait for a booth to cone vacant which has never happened before. Tory seat, 7.5k majority. We've also for the first time in 13 years had Labour canvassing the house to see if we'd voted yet. Fingers crossed we wake up to a new MP tomorrow.

Violetroselily · 12/12/2019 20:34

Not very busy at 8pm tonignt - SE london, labour safe seat

inchoccyheaven · 12/12/2019 20:38

Only us at about 4pm today. Did have i councillor knock at 8pm to see if we had voted. Assume would give you a lift to polling station if not.

pejorativelyspeaking · 12/12/2019 20:38

Super busy in mine-about 20 people in the queue in front of me and at least ten behind as I left

pejorativelyspeaking · 12/12/2019 20:38

At about 7pm

RunningKatie · 12/12/2019 20:44

I've had to queue at 8.30, never have before.
Last election they had 200 through the door. 900+ already, another polling station about 20mins away had 50 min queues earlier.

Windygate · 12/12/2019 20:48

Six officials, two asking for your polling number and me.

Smithtylater · 12/12/2019 21:05

South London 5pmish...chocka but not queuing as it seemed organised and had lots of booths. It was in a church and when I came out the road was gridlocked as people were trying to park/ rush hour traffic .Lady offering cups of tea after said she has never seen it so busy and she has been a poll clerk for 20+ years!

bengalcat · 12/12/2019 21:06

Very quiet but was home late due to train delays and didn’t vote until 8.30pm

MillyMollyMooMum · 12/12/2019 21:09

5.15pm, utterly deserted. Safe snp seat.

followthestardis · 12/12/2019 21:12

much busier than usual for the post-work shift. they were asking people to have a polling card to hand, as it apparently speeds things up (ime it doesn't, this must be the first year i haven't bothered bringing mine). maybe it was just something to say to soothe the queue.

young man ahead of me believed he was registered but wasn't and was turned away.

chuffoff · 12/12/2019 21:16

First time I've queued at my Home Counties polling station. Very safe Tory constituency but a lot of social media activity for last few months discussing the best tactical vote to narrow the majority of our lazy, odious mp and give him a bit of a scare 🤞🏻

chuffoff · 12/12/2019 21:17

Also polling station people reported there had been constant stream of people all day

Mehmehmeh19 · 12/12/2019 21:24

Went early 7.45 ish me and a handful of old folk. Safe labour seat.

LaurieFairyCake · 12/12/2019 21:24

Went at 8, no one there. London.

DonEmmanuelsDingleberries · 12/12/2019 21:28

Saw about 4 other people coming and going when I was there at around 9am. Barely any queuing, and traditionally a Tory seat.

bee222 · 12/12/2019 21:36

About 5 people ahead of me when I arrived around 4.30pm. I usually go straight in and out.Labour safe seat.

RunningNinja79 · 12/12/2019 21:42

I went on the way to work at half 7, as usual there was me and I passed a person each way (one man coming out as I was going in and another coming in as I was going out)

DH went after taking DD2 to school just after 8 and said it was busy then (probably due to the fact that lots of other people did the same as him)

Rural area in a very safe Tory seat.

TotorosFurryBehind · 12/12/2019 21:43

A queue of about 40 people in ours at 6.30pm. A marginal seat. I had baby with me in sling and felt anxious as the atmosphere felt really negative, although as DH pointed out, that was probably because everyone was annoyed at having to queue.

MiniMum97 · 12/12/2019 21:50

Busy and they said it had been manic with queues all day. Sounds like there has been a good turnout which is fabulous!
