My friend was one of the guys who apprehended the suspect. He's in the green coat and the hat (in the video from the bus).

He said he was in his friends car going to a bar and jumped out of the car when he saw the initial attempts to stab members of the public. There were some mothers with prams nearby and his first thought were for them.

The suspect had a bomb vest on, two knives taped to his hands and apparently a gun, which he attempted to pull out when he was shot the first time - I think the first shot (that has been circulated) was a non-fatal shot to deter the suspect as there were great concerns the vest was real and the suspect according to my friend was intending to detonate, hence why they all moved away from the suspect very quickly.

Other shots were fired once the gun was pulled out by the suspect.

All in all, very distressing. My friend is in a real state. But I applaud his bravery.

Your friend is an absolute hero. Jumping out of the safety of a car. My God.

ploopsie · 29/11/2019 17:30

Your friend is an absolute hero. Jumping out of the safety of a car. My God.

Completely agree, wow!

Nojustyou · 29/11/2019 17:30

It seems that it's only LB that is closed, and only for access, if it wasn't the beginning of the line, you can get in your train in another station and just drive through LB.

We've had worst when the station being closed meant no train was actually allowed to go through at all!

You have to laugh at the petty comments from people nice and warm at all, who can't sympathise with the nightmare some commuters will face, but expect others to show sympathy they haven't got themselves Hmm

You can be very grateful for the amazing police and still moan about the massive inconvenience -it's not the police anyone blames, it's the flipping nutter(s) that that were the cause in the first place!

Ignore the ignorant idiots who haven't got a clue and are all excited because there's a drama there are nowhere near close to.

Devereux1 · 29/11/2019 17:30

Incredible bravery from anyone who risked their own welfare to stop this scum.

Queenest · 29/11/2019 17:32

Wow your friend is amazing. So brave and selfless.

RhinoskinhaveI · 29/11/2019 17:34

terrifying:(

PandasandRabbit · 29/11/2019 17:38

Your friend is incredibly brave - I hope they give medals to the people who tackled him. Almost certainly saved lives.

Queenest · 29/11/2019 17:54

And that guy in the jeans and jumper, holding him down til the very end. So brave.

TheQueef · 29/11/2019 18:15

Nobody jumps on a bomb expecting to get back up, only to reduce its impact.
Medals indeed.

LochJessMonster · 29/11/2019 18:20

I am so proud to be British, the selfless actions of those citizens and the police was incredible.

FloraGreysteel · 29/11/2019 18:25

I live at London Bridge, I've just walked home form work in the Holborn/Aldwych area. Lots of press milling around, but seems that bothered.

FloraGreysteel · 29/11/2019 18:26

Nobody seems that bothered! Sorry about that. I guess it did happen a few hours ago. The bridge is still closed and I went round the market rather than through it.

FloraGreysteel · 29/11/2019 18:27

Well done to your friend!

HappyHarlot · 29/11/2019 18:29

Two members of the public are also dead.

SquirmOfEels · 29/11/2019 18:29

BBC reporting 2 passer-by fatalities, and three Ina very serious condition.

Met now officially calling it a terrorist incident

afterme · 29/11/2019 18:29

Shocking. That poor guy pictured holding the knife. He looks like an ordinary man just returning home from work like every other day and ended up caught up in the incident in such a dramatic way.

Andypromqueen · 29/11/2019 18:30

I’ve just watched the video again and the pp who said their friend was there is right - the policeman shoots him in the arm and then as the camera veers to the left you see what I think may be a gun/weapon flying over the bridge.

TheStaleBiscuitofDoom · 29/11/2019 18:31

Two dead. Tragic beyond words to be going about your business and then to be murdered or wounded by a complete stranger who doesn't know you and to whom you haven't done a thing.

Watched the video, so many brave souls there, absolutely amazing. They didn’t know the suicide vest was fake and they jumped on him and stopped him escaping. I’ve read the terrorist killed 2 people and injured others. Horrifying.

Thescrewinthetuna · 29/11/2019 18:38

@NigesFakeWalkingStick

Your friend is so unbelievably brave, wow!

AlwaysCheddar · 29/11/2019 18:43

It’s people like this that deserve awards from our honours system.... not those sportspeople and actors etc.

frankie001 · 29/11/2019 18:44

@NigesFakeWalkingStick it’s rare in a situation like this to personally praise someone who has done what your friend did. I hope he is ok. Thank him. He is amazing x

Span1elsRock · 29/11/2019 18:45

Just amazing bravery from the public and emergency services.

Those poor families getting that news tonight Sad
