According to the YouGov poll.

I'm astounded - I thought it'd be hung again.

What do you think has caused this? Confidence in Boris or a lack of in Corbyn?

“ So thank you... But I'd like to hold onto that, and not be made further poorer because we all will be, people like me on the edge of the precipice crawling, out as well as those deep within it.“
Good. You will. Because you won’t pay any more tax.

But we will. And we’re happy with that. What with wanting to help make a better society an’ all.

Comradesally · 30/11/2019 20:25

Sorry I forgot to add, it's not just about taxation it's about the wealth of the UK and the innovaters, entrepreneurs, bringing and generating wealth in, employing people and giving them jobs.

Stifling all that, suffocating the nation under a depressing blanket of grey socialism, communism whatever the hell public school educated macdonnel elite wants... Will make us all poorer whilst we waste away under the grind of two years waits under nationalisation.

BertrandRussell · 30/11/2019 20:27

“Okay maybe you have a point about Patel and her bath. I can imagine her sat there smugly smirking away in it too.”
Or lying back doing that soaping an outstretched elegant leg thing like a bubble bath commercial...

Comradesally · 30/11/2019 20:36

Paying more than tax if your totally well off isn't a big deal Bertrand.

Perhaps your not well off but I don't feel comfortable with people trying to score moral points without being truthful and transparent.

It's not tax it's the dip in the UK finances that will be crippled under corbyn.

As well as '' everything '' else that will be destroyed.

We will all be worse off.

BertrandRussell · 30/11/2019 20:43

“ Paying more than tax if your totally well off isn't a big deal Bertrand.”

I know it isn’t. That’s why I’m glad it’s me who would do it not you.

Priti Patel:

Had unofficial meetings with Israeli politicians whilst on 'holiday'.
Wrongly claimed Freedom of Movement would end on November 1st in the event of Brexit.
Supports the death penalty.
Voted against gay marriage.
Supports the alcohol and tobacco industries.
Wanted food shortages to be used as leverage in trade deals with Ireland.

Because she's worth it.
(And at least she's better than Diane Abbott, right?!)

Comradesally · 30/11/2019 20:54

We do pay tax Bertrand and we pay tax on everything else also Confused

BertrandRussell · 30/11/2019 21:01

“ We do pay tax Bertrand and we pay tax on everything else also“

Yes. But you won’t pay more under a Labour government. I will.

raskolnikova · 30/11/2019 21:02

*As well as '' everything '' else that will be destroyed.

We will all be worse off.*

But we could say the same about everything being destroyed and everyone being worse off if we get a hard or no deal Brexit with a Conservative majority. And a hard/no deal Brexit is certain if there's a Conservative majority. Is the nationalisation of everything likely in the event of a hung Parliament?

Hereismyreply · 30/11/2019 21:26

Comradesally you appear to be oblivious to the shock to our country's system that a hard Brexit will involve. You do realise that Johnson's "deal" only takes us up to the end of next year? After that we leave with no deal if Johnson hasn't managed to agree one (which he almost certainly won't have done as there's no precedent for agreeing such a huge trade deal so quickly. ) The end of tariff-free trade with the EU is inevitably going to push food prices up. You describe your own financial position as being of "basic" financial security. Don't know how you classify that, but people who aren't in a position to cope with a hike in food prices are going to be the hardest hit.

Hereismyreply · 01/12/2019 00:18

I see that various pro-Tory media outlets are now running with stories about the Tories' poll lead "narrowing" even though they are still on any analysis way ahead of Labour. Do you think the right wing media are trying to play down the possibility of a large Tory majority because they suspect a lot of voters are unimpressed with Johnson and only voting Tory because they fear a Labour majority when actually the reality is that the two realistic outcomes of the election are a Tory majority or a hung Parliament?

Snowjive2 · 01/12/2019 00:32

People bleating that they’re terrified of a Corbyn government, ffs get a grip. I am not a Labour voter but:

  1. Labour are not “far left”. They are pretty mainstream for a left wing party in Europe.
  2. Labour are not economically illiterate. The alternative is the party led by the man who says “Fuck business”.
  3. Labour (and I’m not a fan) have some common decency. They suspended campaigning yesterday out of respect for the London Bridge victims, while Johnson, Patel and the rest of the English National Party (formerly known as the Conservatives) di ed in telling lies about DPP sentences and automatic release.

People planning to vote Tory - you don’t have to read the Daily Mail all your lives, you know. There’s always Google.

Snowjive2 · 01/12/2019 00:39

And I shall be paying personal income tax of over £500k this year, while keeping 20 other people in well paid jobs. So if whinging about tax raises is your thing, I could do that in spades. But do you know what, as I rush for the train to my 13 hour day, I don’t want to be passing people who’ve spent the night trying to sleep on a cold pavement. I am happy to pay more for everyone to have a home. And the Tories just do not give a fuck about those people, or single mothers, or black people, or Muslim women, or gay people - their own leader has said so, again and again. Johnson is a sociopath, a profoundly damaged individual - he has been telling us that for years. Why don’t people listen?!

CendrillonSings · 01/12/2019 00:50

Ah, we’ve finally found someone rich enough to afford a Labour government! I’m afraid most of the rest of us are not in your stratosphere, however, so we prefer not to have the living shite taxed out of us by Labour.

Snowjive2 · 01/12/2019 01:01

Buy by your lights, Cendrillion, I should be planning my escape from the UK, taking my wealth-creating ability with me in fear of a Corbyn government.

Of course I’m bloody not.

I have not always done so well. I earned £1500 in my first year and slept on a relative’s sofa for 5 years. Point is, I earn a lot now precisely because of Labour policies - a good state education and a well-maintained NHS. On the way up I have seen many of what my mother called “caravan Tories” ie. those who do just a little bit better than the people next door and feel that now they have made it, they should vote Tory to keep everyone else down and in their place. Many of the Tory types on MN seem to fit that bill. They disgust me.

FrazzledCareerWoman · 01/12/2019 02:12

Labour's policies are self defeating - everyone in my industry is talking about leaving the country; my job won't exist at all after 5 years of Corbyn. Those tax receipts are purely hypothetical and ignore behavioural shifts. Those rich enough to leave or go offshore will do so. That means a lot more tax for people on 30-80k teachers, accountants etc. despite Corbyn pretending it doesn't.

Where is all this money going to come from? Financial markets will push up the cost of borrowing for the UK on a labour win, btw.

I am frustrated, I do not want boris and Brexit. I don't mind paying more tax to invest in NHS etc. But Corbyn is an extremist hard left sexist loon who will plunge the country into economic recession. I don't want to leave the EU but no party has a credible plan to get us out of this mess.

I'll reluctantly be voting Lib Dem (do not agree with their stance on women's rights) to try and kick labour out of the London seat I'm in. Yes that prob means a de facto vote for boris. It's all very depressing.

If labour had a sensible centrist leader and more moderate left policies I'd vote for them in a heartbeat this time (I've never voted labour - but probably would have voted for eg Blair).

FrazzledCareerWoman · 01/12/2019 02:21

"
I agree it’s about time we had a more Europe type model with some sharing of the cost as opposed to everything being free but no party would dare discuss this at this moment in time. "

I'd happily pay to use NHS, I can afford it, my employer makes us get compulsory private health insurance so they are not inconvenienced by us taking time off due to waiting for treatment etc. I'd rather pay that money into an NHS that works than reinforce a two tier system.

Why not do a means tested contribution based system like Holland for example.

CendrillonSings · 01/12/2019 11:21

The masochist community has always been a small but significant component of the Labour vote...

Regardless of any political leanings, a quiet thank you to you and everyone who thinks the same, from someone also "not in your stratosphere', (actually painfully far from it)
