According to the YouGov poll.

I'm astounded - I thought it'd be hung again.

What do you think has caused this? Confidence in Boris or a lack of in Corbyn?

Just read Johnson refuses to be interviewed by Andrew Neil. He is obviously not up to answering questions on the latest revelations on the American pharmaceutical deals if we leave the EU plus the other enquiries to be revealed after the election regarding their interference in the election process. Johnson never answers questions other than sidestepping them with another mantra such as “let’s get Brexit done” or how wonderful his record was as the London mayor (another lie) or “the NHS is not on the negotiating table” ( but now we realise that pharmaceuticals are and that was confirmed by an American professor on the news last night). I am in despair. I am voting Liberal unless a miracle happens and a Corbyn steps aside.

stophuggingme · 28/11/2019 09:43

I don’t vote Tory because ultimately I hate their disgusting policies. Funnily enough I also have consistently despised every leader they had -bar possibly Major and Hague but even that’s a push - so double whammy for me!
I must say I question the sanity of someone who would only vote for a political party and therefore a government on the basis that they liked its current incumbent leader. Or the flip side of that. That seems bonkers to me. Surely liking someone is a bonus rather than a precondition of your support and acknowledgment that they can cut the mustard professionally.

It’s even more bonkers when all that’s missing from BoJo is a sandwich board round his neck saying “ Joe Bloggs I shit on you

mrsmuddlepies · 28/11/2019 09:47

Many voters don't like being hectored at and lectured to. I was offended when JC was patronising about people not understanding about Waspi women.
I identify with him in some respects. We grew up in the same area but he attended a private school and I went to a state school. I went to university then taught at our local comp all my working career. JC got 2 Es at A level and dropped out of uni. My boys went to the local comp and went to Cambridge, his boys went to Grammar Schools ( and to Cambridge). I have been married to the same husband for ever. JC has been married three times and his current wife is 20 years younger than him.
JC sneers at people like me. He thinks he is too superior to say sorry.
He needs to adopt a ready to listen approach rather than acting superior all the time.

Deathgrip · 28/11/2019 09:52

Why do you say he sneers at you?
What do you expect him to apologise for, what has he done?

Corbyn does listen - have you seen him when he’s out talking to the public?

By contrast have you seen Johnson?

He is obviously not up to answering questions on the latest revelations on the American pharmaceutical deals if we leave the EU plus the other enquiries to be revealed after the election regarding their interference in the election process

To be fair he was dodging it long before that document was revealed.

stophuggingme · 28/11/2019 10:00

@mrsmuddlepies it seems to me that many voters don’t want to know the truth in many ways in lots of issues; namely the reality of what Brexit will bring and the bleak future of the NHS.

It also seems that voters are selective in their horror over Anti Semitic attitudes given the two Conservative candidates Amjad Bashir and Ryan Houghton.

Voters are allowing BoJo to get away with absolute murder. He could not be more brazen either in his insulting attacks upon Corbyn or his evasiveness and interview dodging. Zero accountability for any of his actions.

JPharm · 28/11/2019 10:06

I think the electoral system is to blame here. It’s always going to be a two horse race and people are forced into tactical voting. We would benefit much more from proportional representation.

mrsmuddlepies · 28/11/2019 10:09

@Deathgrip , so do you condemn John McDonnell for apologising last night for the hurt and upset caused to UK Jews?
I have apologised loads to students because they are upset about something. It gives a way in and opens up a dialogue. J C thinks he is too superior to make people feel better and listened to. I have met him in a professional capacity ( not when electioneering) and he ignored me. I am female but not young and pretty.
I wrote to Diane Abbott and Ken Livingstone years ago. Diane explained that things were different for her because of her background and being in the public eye when she chose an independent school route for her son. Ken L never replied.
I don't rate Boris and I will be voting Lib Dem . In my opinion, Jo Swinson cares about people not just a few selected groups. She feels human and does not dismiss people in the way JC dismisses ordinary people like me.

dirtyrottenscoundrel · 28/11/2019 10:11

It’s not just Corbyn, people know if he got power Diane Abbott would probably be our Home Secretary.
I’m sorry, but that’s enough to put anyone off voting labour.

angemorange · 28/11/2019 10:11

Here's my post from 2015 - day after Cameron won a majority -

"It's a dark day but Cameron has a lot of stormy waters ahead - EU referendum, slim majority, Tory backbenchers desperate to get out of Europe, SNP block voting, the truth about the poor economic recovery emerging etc etc etc.

Have a weep and a glass of wine but then sit back and watch the fun over the next few months.

I grew up under Thatcher - it's survivable smile"

Prophetic or what?!!

Deathgrip · 28/11/2019 10:13

Absolutely agree. At the 2017 GE labour had a very similar vote share as they did under Blair in 2001, yet significantly fewer seats. The problem is where the votes come from and how they’re concentrated which is a ridiculous system. So many of us have votes which are meaningless.

Deathgrip · 28/11/2019 10:14

I grew up under Thatcher - it's survivable smile

*Prophetic or what?!!

Not that accurate for the people who’ve died as a result of this government’s policies.

LeekMunchingSheepShagger · 28/11/2019 10:16

I just can’t believe that anyone would rather have a no deal brexit and lose our NHS than have JC as PM. I’m genuinely utterly baffled by that.

stophuggingme · 28/11/2019 10:21

@mrsmuddlepies “Jo Swinson cares about people “
Her personal voting record suggests precisely the opposite

angemorange · 28/11/2019 10:25

@Deathgrip - I meant that it was obvious in in 2015 what difficulties were coming, although I doubt anyone could have envisaged the reality of life under a Brext obsessed Tory party.

If we wake up to a Boris landslide on 13th Dec it will be all about re-grouping and looking forward. Nothing else to be done.

MrsMaiselsMuff · 28/11/2019 10:29

This time in 2017 the polls were saying May would have the biggest majority since Thatcher. Look how that turned out!

There has been a massive surge in young people registering to vote this week, and the poll does not take that into account. Keep the faith.

angemorange · 28/11/2019 10:30

@MrsMaiselsMuff - Exactly!

Not over till its over :)

raskolnikova · 28/11/2019 10:31

there is still plenty of time for a huge gaffe

You'd hope so, but then, wasn't Johnson saying that the floods in the North were not a national emergency a gaffe? Or JRM saying he would use common sense when in a burning building (during a conversation about Grenfell)? It seems like the Tories can say or do anything, and they could still win because they've tricked people into believing it's in their interests to have a hard Brexit ASAP.

Someone above says they think JC sneers at people like them. I'm a single mother on benefits, one of Johnson's old columns has been dug out today in which he said the children of single mothers are 'ill-raised, ignorant, aggressive and illegitimate' and wrote, 'It is no use blaming uppity and irresponsible women for becoming pregnant in the absence of a husband.' So I think I know what our PM thinks about me!

MrsMaiselsMuff · 28/11/2019 10:32

LeekMunching, the press have told them he's a bad man who wants to get rid of our armed forces and flood our country with Muslims. It's all bollocks of course, but when they say something often enough then it somehow becomes fact.

MarshaBradyo · 28/11/2019 10:32

Yep the last polls were off contrary to pp about polls under estimating Cons

TrySleepingWithABrokenHeart · 28/11/2019 10:32

Also... when exactly was this poll done? Was it before the tories plans to sell the NHS were outed?

raskolnikova · 28/11/2019 10:34

It’s not just Corbyn, people know if he got power Diane Abbott would probably be our Home Secretary.
I’m sorry, but that’s enough to put anyone off voting labour.

Yes, I'm so reassured that we'll have Priti Patel instead Confused Hmm

Dowser · 28/11/2019 10:36

We are actually going to be out of the country.
I can’t believe I’ve applied for a postal vote.

CatherineOfAragonsPrayerBook · 28/11/2019 10:43

We get the government we deserve

Yes we surely do.

Boris is a better, more principled man than Corbyn. Of course he is.

He will definitely not sell off the NHS. Of course he won't.

Because everything he's done so far shows he can be trusted.

God people are stupid. Willfully stupid.

ThatsMeInTheSpotlight · 28/11/2019 10:47

It was a poll for The Times. You need to remember that the Tories view of polls isn't that the reflect public opinion but that you commission them so the results will influence public opinion.

This is the Tories trying to pretend they are guaranteed victory but everything else they are doing and saying in the media points to a party that is very concerned and that may have private polling suggesting different outcomes.

Moonmelodies · 28/11/2019 10:48

After all the protests and marches against Brexit, it's surprising how unpopular the LibDems are.
I guess the remainers aren't that bothered.
