Anyone else got this horrendous cough and cold?

Pantalaimon88 · 19/11/2019 19:51

I’ve had it since Thursday. Coughing so hard I am urging, lungs feel like they’re being squeezed and I can’t smell a thing. I also feel like I’ve been hit by a bus.

Apparently loads of people have this awful virus at the moment. Is anyone else here suffering too and can share a moan, tea and sympathy?

Not sure if it's the same, but I'm in bed with a cough and a temp of 39.0…. I feel shocking, I've been sick once too, but I think it was just too much coughing I ache all over and am being truly pathetic. I need this to be gone.

SpoonBlender · 19/11/2019 20:01

Yeah, everyone. The office is deserted. I'm just back myself.

EmmiJay · 19/11/2019 20:06

I'm just getting over 3 weeks of it. Luckily DD only had it bad for 3 days but blimey it was horrible. Never seen so much mucus in my life! A few weeks ago an entire bus I was on (including the driver) was coughing and sneezing like a choir.🤣

Yup. DD was hospitalised with it last week and on inhalers. Now we are home and she is still coughing so much she's vomiting every night and it feels like it will never end. Back to the doctor's tomorrow for us, she's only 2 :( Her nursery is deserted, there are about 3 kids who have been to hospital too. It's the most horrific virus!

CabbagePatchKids · 19/11/2019 20:17

Yep 2x members of my family (infant & elderly) have been hospitalised with it. And we've all been hacking for weeks now.
It's really unpleasant!

Drinkciderfromalemon · 19/11/2019 20:20

2 weeks in here and still feel grim, though considerably less grim than I did. The amount of noise blowing is ridiculous.

Babymamamama · 19/11/2019 20:21

It’s hideous. Aching behind the eyes. Chest hurting. Anyone actually got any tips? I bought Weleda Rhinodoron today in desperation and it’s helping a bit....and sipping hot orange squash all the time. Only things that seem to help me.

MileyWiley · 19/11/2019 20:21

My DD still hasn't fully gotten over a horrendous cough which she's had for over 2 weeks. GP said it's viral ☹️

Supersimkin2 · 19/11/2019 20:25

Yep, tried penicillin but ended up on pneumonia pills and steroids. Started off as a chesty cough, got worse. Haven't worked for 3 weeks, worried I'd get the sack.

Still on pills and breathers but managing short trips out. It seems to trigger very nasty asthma.

mrsmoppp · 19/11/2019 20:26

I've not had it but I had an awful cold last winter and I tried bronco stop and it was amazing stuff. Its vile though Sad

Supersimkin2 · 19/11/2019 20:28

What worked for me: x4 blasts of ventolin x4 daily, honey and lemon non stop to soothe the choking throat, doxycycline.

Stickytoffeeprodding · 19/11/2019 20:28

yep, I'm ten days in now and still feeling awful. The whole office is down with it, which is a nightmare to deal with staffing wise. They're all off whilst I still have to work. Sigh.

BeThere · 19/11/2019 20:30

Yes I have it... and I'm pregnant... and my 18 month old has it too... she's been awake coughing every night for 2 weeks Sad

Pantalaimon88 · 19/11/2019 20:34

I’m terrified at so many of you saying you’ve had it for several weeks! I think I’ll take myself to the knackers yard if I have much more of this.

OP posts:
JustLikeJasper · 19/11/2019 20:35

Yep i have it and so does my 15 month old, can't catch my breath feel like there's a hippo sat on my chest when i try and lay down.

EmmiJay · 19/11/2019 20:36

For DD I found lots of paracetamol, regular doses of inhaler, Montelukast tablets, saline nasal spray and honey and lemon tea stopped it getting any worse than it could have got. I basically inhaled paracetamol too and used alot of sinex (?).

meow1989 · 19/11/2019 20:36

I've had an awful 5 months- pneumonia, asthma exacerbation, uti and this horrendous virus (plus or minus sinusitis!) So far since beginning of Oct I've had 2 weeks off work, three rounds of steroids, two inhalers and 5 rounds of antibiotics. Horrendous. Sad

Pantalaimon88 · 19/11/2019 20:38

I’m just on the ventolin now. Been popping paracetamol and ibuprofen like sweets, the ibu is the only thing helping with the congestion. I can’t take any decongestent as I’m breastfeeding, oh what I would give for some Sudafed!

itsgettingweird · 19/11/2019 20:38

Yes! My face actually feels like someone has punched me repeatedly in it!
Not a snotty cold but clearly sinuses. Add to that a painful neck and ar,s and general aching muscles.

I've not had the cough so badly. But my glands yesterday made me look like a hamster Grin

ShadowsInTheDarkness · 19/11/2019 20:40

No coughing here but we have all been down with a horrid sickness bug. Came out of nowhere and I've not been as sick as that for many years. DD had it as well and a week later she's still off her food and achey. I'm on day 3, have stopped being sick but have fluey aches everywhere, my asthma is massively playing up and I'm being utterly pathetic.

The winter viruses seem to get nastier each year, I can usually dose up and power through anything but this has really knocked me out. Having said that I had pneumonia a few years ago and seem to have a crap immune system since then.

itsgettingweird · 19/11/2019 20:41

I got the day and night nurse on Sunday. This afternoon I suddenly realised I could hear again and didn't feel dizzy when I shut my eyes!

It's like a virus that causes inflammation of the URT rather than a snotty cold.

commanderdalgliesh · 19/11/2019 20:42

Where are you all based? My boss is off with a cough and cold and I'm really hoping it's not this going round as can't face my ten month old getting sick AGAIN 😔

Ithinkwerealonenowtiffany · 19/11/2019 20:44

My friend had the most terrible chesty cold and the doctor refused pills and told her to swallow Manuka honey.

Really, the-bees knees (scuse the pun). She keeps in in the medication cabinet now.

Aliceinwanderland · 19/11/2019 20:51

I'm into week 3 of something now. Cold first few days, then fever and chills and then the cough. 1.5 weeks at home. At the weekend it turned into a horrible chest infection and started getting chest pain. GP prescribed antibiotics yesterday and they seem to be helping. DP has said he hasn't ever seen me this sick for this long. Eldest DD is also suffering.

BreadSauceHmm · 19/11/2019 20:52

Yup could hardly walk one day last week due to the lack of energy, wore 3 layers and was still shivering. At one point I thought I had pneumonia! Over the worst of it now, just have an outbreak of cold sores to deal with...
