A Royal Referendum - How would you vote?

Nikhedonia · 19/11/2019 01:22

I know that this wouldn't be how it would work, but please humour me Smile

If there was a referendum where the options were to either keep the Royal Family or get rid (after the Queen dies) how would you vote?

(Ignoring the fact that this isn't how it would work and if Brexit has gone like this, doing a deal with the Royal Family could be just as painful)

I'm genuinely not sure how I'd vote.

keep. clip wings.

YogaLite · 21/11/2019 13:37

Rid, the tourists will be even more attracted if they could actually come and see the riches currently out of bounds.

PurpleDaisies · 21/11/2019 13:38

Get rid. In a modern democratic society, having an inherited monarch is bonkers.

Keep without question.

BUT remove the funding for the extended family, beyond the immediate line of succession

The idea of bowing down to anyone has always made me shudder (which put paid to my martial arts classes)

I honestly can’t see the point of a slimmed down monarchy. They have no practical use at all so if they don’t provide us with entertainment what are they for?

hellsbells99 · 21/11/2019 14:18

keep

ApplesinmyPocket · 21/11/2019 15:07

I'd vote "Off with their Heads".

A very average bunch of people who (with our connivance) think we should grovel when they deign to pass our unworthy selves.

kenandbarbie · 21/11/2019 15:11

Keep but once queen dies only Charles, Camilla, William and family.

They generate millions and do a lot of good work.

Versailles is still doing very nicely in the absence of the French royals in terms of tourist income generation. And in fairness, Red Rum and the Chuckle Brothers open/ed supermarkets.

Rid. I don't think whatever they generate in tourism can justify the inherited automatic privilege they stand for. The drama, behaviour. Enough now.

RedGal · 21/02/2020 15:04

But also, please, no more referendums. I've also had enough of those.

C130 · 21/02/2020 15:11

Get rid.

I'm not rabidly anti monarchy, I don't hate them, but if I had to choose I would say ditch for sure.

FreyaMountstuart · 21/02/2020 15:23

Ditch

BobLobLawLLB · 21/02/2020 15:26

Wait for HRH to die, then abolish the monarchy.

maidenover · 21/02/2020 15:30

Get rid and reform the House of Lords so that it becomes an elected 2nd chamber whilst we’re about it.

greedygutty · 21/02/2020 15:31

Keep , love the tradition , history , pomp and ceremony, it's what sets Britain apart from the rest of the world
