In labour and struggling!

I've been in labour (via induction) for around 5 hours now, still early and waters haven't gone yet but good god I'm in so much pain already!! Contractions 3/4 every 10 minutes but not as long as they should be. Haven't been checked in hours.

I've had this lovely idea of hypnobirthing, totally calm and serene, no drugs... I'm only just holding off buzzing for meds. Trying my best to hold off a bit longer as I know it gets worse once they've broken the waters.

Any night owls or early risers around for moral support?

Ahh that’s lovely. So glad he is getting on well.

MrsMozartMkII · 21/11/2019 16:10

Yay for feeding.

Here's hoping he's on the mend.

codenameduchess · 21/11/2019 19:09

I'm trying not to get excited, but he's done really well today. Reduced his high flow so he's not on oxygen anymore and the flow rate has been reduced, he's up to 30ml milk feeds every 2 hours (still by nasal tube), had 2 decent breast feeds and his breathing/o2 sats have been stable. Almost certainly jaundiced, he's right below the treatment line now and having another test tonight. If that's the only thing to come out of tonight I can deal with that and it won't stop the feeding and air flow progress.

I've just expressed 5ml of milk, massive increase from this mornings 0.6ml so will carry on pumping every 2/3 hours for him. They are going to call if he wakes and looks like he's willing to breastfeed through the night - I said to absolutely call me, I'll come anytime!

DD visited too, she made me a picture and brought baby a teddy she picked for him. We had a lovely cuddle and read a story.

This thread has become my little neonatal diary, thank you to every one who has replied!

The feeding sounds positive OP.

I was discharged when baby was 36h. Our Neonatal had 24h access for parents and whilst I never used to stay over (had a 3yo and 5yo at home and you are correct there aren't sleeping facilities as such for parents but you could stay as long as you wanted). I used to go in all day every day and if the urge took me I'd swing by for a night time cuddle.

Thankfully we had a relatively short stay and it had no effect on bonding, my relationship with DC3 or anything like that granted she was unable to feed but that was not because I hadn't been with her 24/7

Take it as it comes and hopefully you are close to transitional care (where they have you and baby on ward to make sure you've got the the baby's care sorted before they discharge you!!)

MrsMozartMkII · 21/11/2019 21:24

Gosh that sounds like a good day.

I hope the night goes well.

codenameduchess · 22/11/2019 10:54

The night went really well, he's off his drip and high flow, sats and breathing are excellent and he's had a really good breast feed this morning. I'm sat waiting for him to stir for his next feed now, he's doing bf every 2 hours with a top up after and aiming to reduce the top ups.

The doctors were really pleased when I saw them at rounds and seemed confident of getting him off special care today/tomorrow. I'm pushing for today!

He's getting another blood gas test and jaundice level check as he's still pretty yellow, but so far tracked just below the treatment line.

DH has come down with something so it's just me today while he rests.

Everything is ok with me now so I'm only staying for baby, as soon as he's ready for discharge we'll be going home.

I have him with me finally! Doing so well bfing the top up feeds have already stopped. It feels amazing to have him here.

He's on light therapy for jaundice, the first test at 6 hrs showed he's already halfway to where he needs to be so is responding well. Everything but his canula is gone now and I can see his whole face 💙💙

We've been told that he'll be on IV antibiotics until Monday/Tuesday but im waiting to see a different doctor tomorrow on that.

FelixFelicis6 · 23/11/2019 12:46

Ah well done! So lovely Flowers

MrsMozartMkII · 23/11/2019 15:16

Yay! Most excellent news indeed!

codenameduchess · 23/11/2019 15:22

How cannula came out and by 11 today he was taken off the light therapy as his jaundice levels were well below the treatment line so he's free of everything now.

3 more sets of obs to do and a jaundice check then he should be done with all of the poking.

DD came to visit today and got to cuddle him properly which was lovely. She was so gentle and he just stared at her happily snuggling in!
