'Boring' plain food that's actually really good

Doing the supermarket shop the other week, saw a huge display of cornflakes and immediately really fancied some. Have really been enjoying them as a snack (not filling enough for breakfast!) with creamy oat milk.

Plain bread and butter can also be delicious. Must be salted butter though.

What other really 'boring' foods can you not get enough of?

Mars bar I went for a run with a friend and after I felt a bit weird and shaky afterwards so she gave me a mini mars bar. It was delicious.

I'm not even a Mars fan, but DH gave me one after I'd just given birth, it was the best thing I'd ever tasted😅 Have never wanted another though.

Warm chicken, on buttered bread with salt, pepper and a smear of salad cream

Have been poorly and off my food, but I'm salivating at the thought of this.

Cheese on toast
Cheese and crackers
Cheesy pasta
Cauliflower cheese
Cheese omelette
Cheesy baked potato

Cheese makes everything marvellous basically

Also rather partial to 'plain' soups like cream of tomato.

@Mrsmummy90

Cheesy beans pasta is one of my all time favourite comfort foods. So good.

DuggeesWoggle · 14/11/2019 11:02

Really good vanilla ice cream is also a beautiful thing. Needs no adornment.

This is mostly a butter appreciation thread.

Butter with salt crystals in is the BEST.

Tana433 · 14/11/2019 11:46

Potato cakes (homemade preferably but sometimes who has the time?) thickly spread with butter.

SpiderCharlotte · 14/11/2019 13:15

This is mostly a butter appreciation thread.

It is and that can only be a good thing! 😊

StellaRockafella · 14/11/2019 13:27

Really good sourdough bread spread thickly with butter
Toasted sourdough spread thickly with butter
A le pain quotidien baguette spread thickly with butter
Challah spread thickly with butter
Toasted challash spread thickly with butter
Toasted crumpets spread thickly with butter

Bread is really just the delivery system for lots of butter!

Also, boiled new potatoes with butter, and a sprinkling of salt
Potatoes mashed with masses of butter
Baked potatoes with crispy skins, salt and masses of butter

Trifle sponges and boudoir biscuits
Microwave jasmine rice eaten out of the pouch

Dowser · 14/11/2019 13:51

Belgian chocolate covered rice cakes (79p for 6)with mashed banana on top
I have that for lunch most days

Doubleraspberry · 14/11/2019 15:32

Thanks to this thread I had a bake your own baguette for lunch, with salted butter, hot roast chicken, cooking juices and mayonnaise. It was amazing.

WombleishOfTheThighs · 14/11/2019 15:42

Fresh, homemade bread with lashings of butter, all crackly round the edges and soft, fluffy and creamy in the center.

Hidingtonothing · 14/11/2019 15:42

Egg and (proper) chips, I basically married my DH because of his egg-and-chip-cooking skills Grin

userxx · 14/11/2019 16:11

Cheesy beans pasta is one of my all time favourite comfort foods. So good.

I need to try this.

userxx · 14/11/2019 16:14

@Hidingtonothing I was newly dating someone when after a shit day at work he made me sausage mash and beans. In that moment I knew he was a keeper :)

Mrsmummy90 · 14/11/2019 16:51

Omfg this thread is like porn 😂 I just wanna eat everything

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 14/11/2019 17:07

Leftover roast potatoes and gravy, warmed up in the microwave.

Cauliflower/macaroni cheese combo, loads of very cheesy sauce, breadcrumbs and extra cheese on top, whack under the grill.

Macaroni pie (cooked macaroni, eggs, milk, loads of cheese, S&P) baked in the oven.

Bubblysqueak · 14/11/2019 17:10

Bran flakes, absolutely loving them at the moment.

catinb0oots · 14/11/2019 17:19

Toast

catinb0oots · 14/11/2019 17:21

Just RTFT and basically the theme here is carbs. Big old salty, greasy carbs 🤣

redthefraggle · 14/11/2019 18:21

Hot, salty, crispy chicken skin.

Hovverry · 14/11/2019 19:39

The main theme is salt. Salty butter, salty cheese, even bread is salty.
A banana is simple and filling and not a bit salty.

Dumptyhumpty101 · 14/11/2019 19:43

Tuc cheese sandwich biscuits

bobstersmum · 14/11/2019 19:44

Boiled egg, bashed up in a cup with butter and salt.
