'Boring' plain food that's actually really good

Doing the supermarket shop the other week, saw a huge display of cornflakes and immediately really fancied some. Have really been enjoying them as a snack (not filling enough for breakfast!) with creamy oat milk.

Plain bread and butter can also be delicious. Must be salted butter though.

What other really 'boring' foods can you not get enough of?

A bowl of plain steamed jasmine rice topped with a fried egg and soy sauce. If I have it I also add chopped spring onions or chives

littlealexhorne · 13/11/2019 23:33

Yes to bread and (salted) butter, especially if its crusty bread!

Also nice potato croquettes, vanilla ice cream and toast made by somebody else - no idea why but it always tastes nicer.

stucknoue · 13/11/2019 23:35

Home baked focaccia and olive oil, so simple to make but delicious.

Titsywoo · 14/11/2019 00:10

Crackers and butter - especially light crackers like water biscuits

Graphista · 14/11/2019 00:14

Marmite on toast for me at the moment, I’m sometimes having 4 slices at a time [embarrassed] which isn’t like me.

“Toasted Crumpets with lots of butter” ya bugger these are also lush with marmite

Instant mash with butter and...Yep you guessed it marmite 😂

Chucky eggs - boiled eggs mashed up in a mug with butter, what mum gave us when we were ill.

Cheese on toast (which I can’t make at the moment as current cooker doesn’t have a grill far as I can tell 😢 ideally you need an eye level grill for this)

“Tomatoes sprinkled with salt” yes! I don’t know anyone else who does this! When we had picnics as kids boiled eggs and halved tomatoes were part of the feast, mum had a little tupperware salt shaker for picnics and we’d salt the eggs and tomatoes. Sounds weird but it actually makes the tomatoes taste sweeter?

“Crackers and butter - especially light crackers like water biscuits” try rich tea or digestive biscuits spread generously with butter 2 at a time sandwiched

TheSquashyHatOfMrGnosspelius · 14/11/2019 00:23

Steamed cabbage with salty butter.

Walnutwhipster · 14/11/2019 00:36
