1972: age 20, CO in Civil Service - £800 pa

It went up to £1200 as I turned 21 because there had been one of those mad enormous backdated payrises that year (something like 30%) on top of the age rise.

Can’t remember subsequent salaries in any detail except that in 1979 I was on about £4000 as an admin assistant in a big pharmaceutical company in London. DH got £7000 as a systems analyst.

We rented a 2-bed flat in Ealing for £100pm. We could have easily bought a house for about £20000 but went to live in the US for a while instead.

I quite regret that now Grin

Started full time work at 22 on 19k on a graduate scheme. Still with same company and earn approx. 70k plus bonus pro rata. I’m 35 now.
