What was your salary when you were under 25 (what job were you doing?) and what do you do now?

Aged 21 I was a student with a Saturday job earning about £4 an hour.
Now aged 37 I'm earning nothing as I'm a carer to my disabled children. I used to get carers allowance but the Tories decided they were miraculously cured so we lost most of the dla and my carers allowance.

21: £12k between interning and working in a bar fresh out of uni

Stayed like that for 2 years, then did a year of season work abroad. Earnt essentially nothing but had accomodation, food, travel etc

Came back to the UK and did a master's to change career path (fell very much out of love with what I did at uni for my BA) aged 24

28: £28k as an events manager

Definitely the right decision to do the masters, the 8k in fees was earned back within 10 months.

I still have a P60 here from 1988 (hoarder? Moi?)

I joined my company as little more than a typist and the annual salary was £7,300. I was 24. Now in my 50s, still at the same company but have risen through the ranks to a more senior role with different responsibilities and just been notified my salary increase this year will be to £57,800.

44 - accountant working as a support tutor for a accountancy training provider - earning £42k full time

carlywurly · 12/11/2019 20:37

I went from £13k at 22 (retail supervisor)

to £45k at 29 (customer services manager)

Back to £17k at 35 post maternity leave Sad

Back up to 42k 7 years in at the same place after retraining.

Maternity leave and 6 years out cost me dearly.
