Women in the public eye who do what they do *well*

There's many a thread popping up on MN basically just bashing women.

"Adele got thin, now she will be shit"
"Doesn't Tess Daly just have the kind if face you want to punch?"
Etc.

So I want us to talk about women in the public eye who do a fucking good job at whatever it is they are known for.

Olivia Colman Amazing actress, seems kind and happy. Picks great roles and plays them well. Doesn't court media attention.

Dawn O Porter writes great books about women who feel real. Situations that are normal and true and sometimes raw. Instagram stories the mad moments and doesn't do stuff for show.

Bella Mackie. Inspiring and real. Instagram account doesn't just show the good bits.

EdWinchester · 05/11/2019 21:29

I can't be doing with Dawn 'O' Porter. I find everything about her intensely irritating.

I like Claudia Winkleman, and Dawn 'O' completely copies her.

I don't want to punch Tess Daly but I have no clue why she is still presenting SCD. It's a huge mystery.

Every single woman who is out there doing her best, no matter how she gets judged for whether she’s doing it well, or right, or anything else. In the same way that I give a mental cheer to every person I see out running, no matter their size or speed, I want to cheer on any woman who is putting herself out there, in the public eye and finding a way to forge a career, whatever it is. My only exceptions to that are people who support or speak hatred and violence, or the reduction of rights for women.

Katya Adler, I want to be her, swishing round Brussels being clever and glossy

“I can't be doing with Dawn 'O' Porter. I find everything about her intensely irritating.”

Couldn't agree more, both her and her husband are massively “look at us” irritating

Disfordarkchocolate · 05/11/2019 21:40

Susan Calman - amazingly funny and open about her mental health issues.

Pink - wonderful in every way.

ImperfectTents · 05/11/2019 21:40

Aisling beau and Sharon Horgan swishing around being devastatingly funny and successful

EmmiJay · 05/11/2019 21:45

Beyoncè - in my books shes a true superstar.

Tilda Swinton/ Viola Davis/ Jodie Foster - the best actresses ever imo.

I'll come back with more

afternoonspray · 05/11/2019 21:45

Helena Kennedy QC
Phoebe Waller Bridge - everything she writes is goldust and she manages to be staggeringly sexy without losing her strength and edge
Sally Wainwright - writer of Happy Valley and Gentleman Jack
Renee Zellwegeer - she's sublime as Judy Garland
Malala

Disfordarkchocolate · 05/11/2019 21:53

Agree with Helena Kennedy, amazing woman.

Michelle Obama, international and dignified.

TildaKauskumholm · 05/11/2019 21:55

But if we can say these things about men, why not about women too?

mustangsly · 05/11/2019 21:57

Sarah Lancashire.

Olivia Colman annoys me. At the Oscars going on about being a cleaner and coming from Norfolk and all "Gosh little old me". Same as Phoebe WB. Average sitcom with deliberate shock value. Now she's in the US on Saturday Night Live with a pathetically unfunny sketch about Essex girls on Love Island for cheap laughs. As if she has ever met anyone like that in her elite world. Sorry Fleabag fans but I'm not convinced she's the genius people think.

I Love Sharon Horgan, Anna Maxwell Martin (Motherland), Vanessa Feltz (she's fearless), Annie Mac, Steph McGovern, Anne Diamond, Tina Daheely, Anita Rahni, Emma Willis, Alice Levine, Clara Amfo, Victoria Coren Mitchell.

dayswithaY · 06/11/2019 07:34

I'd quite like Laura Kuensberg's job too. (Prob spelled her name wrong.)
