We are just watching pointless and Anne diamond is on. My daughter asked who she was and I explained that she was a tv presenter, who was famous back in the day. I then remembered that she was the one who Lost her baby to SIDS and gave us the advice to put babies on their backs.DD currently cuddling her new son and is almost not believing me that babies were swaddled, put on their tummies and made sure they were warm. I know that there are still babies that die on their backs, and no matter what you do this awful thing still happens. I’m surprised this woman isn’t revered for what she did. Does anyone know if there are other reasons she hasn’t been officially recognized for what she did?

She's been recognised by HCPs - having been awarded the Gold Medal of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health, the only time it has ever been awarded to a non-medic.

She did more, I think, than any other single individual to get 'back to sleep' the airtime to make it mainstream and help slash death rates.

I do not know why she hasn't been on the Honours List.

Jomalaldi · 02/11/2019 19:26

That’s good to hear.

I thought you were going to say she'd died.

TheQueef · 02/11/2019 19:28

I always ask this.
She must be responsible for saving so many babies.
I love AD.

(We remember you Sebastian ❤)

^I completely agree. She deserves more recognition

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 02/11/2019 19:30

I agree! I love Anne Diamond and always think of her dear boy Sebastian. She’s saved thousands of babies’ lives.

Span1elsRock · 02/11/2019 19:31

My son was stillborn not long after her baby Sebastian died. I read her book years later and sobbed.

The fact she was so driven for something good to come out of such a senseless loss is astonishing. I could barely remember to brush my hair most days Sad

mathsquestions · 02/11/2019 19:33

Let’s start an MN petition to have her honoured.

Jomalaldi · 02/11/2019 19:36

@Span1elsRock Flowers for you and your son.

Jomalaldi · 02/11/2019 19:37

@mathsquestions how do we do this?

Justmuddlingalong · 02/11/2019 19:37

I agree that her promotion of the "back to sleep" advice was underated at the time and all but forgotten now. I read the book she wrote about her beloved son Sebastian. The passage about finding his sock in her pocket still stays in my mind all these years later.

Venger · 02/11/2019 19:39

Report your opening post to @MNHQ and ask them how to go about it or start a post in site stuff.

UnitedRoad · 02/11/2019 19:39

I can’t believe she hasn’t been honoured. A truly amazing lady

Daisywho · 02/11/2019 19:40

Fantastic thread, thanks for starting it OP. Would definitely sign that petition, maths.

Comefromaway · 02/11/2019 19:40

I agree she should have been honoured.

CameraTime · 02/11/2019 19:41

I've a feeling there was some reason people were negative about her campaign - I can't remember who, or why, but I remember thinking their objections sounded potentially plausible (I never investigated further).

It is also entirely possible that the objections were utter nonsense.

So it might be worth reading up a bit more, before starting a campaign.

TheQueef · 02/11/2019 19:41

I've nominated as an individual to the honours list but you need info not readily available.
HQ should sponsor this.

HeronLanyon · 02/11/2019 19:43

Good god I didn’t even know this about her or perhaps had known but completely forgotten. How humbling and I agree she should have national recognition in addition to her. professional award.

BlueThursday · 02/11/2019 19:43

I remember her family going through this even as a 7 year old

I don’t think any one person has done more for this issue than Anne in terms of public awareness

mathsquestions · 02/11/2019 19:44

petition.parliament.uk/

The Daily Mail owes us all big time. Maybe they can help promote it.

TheQueef · 02/11/2019 19:45

I think the doubt was did Anne Want a gong Cam from threads I've seen.

Jomalaldi · 02/11/2019 19:45

I have asked MNHQ how to go about getting her an official recognition

OP posts:
Span1elsRock · 02/11/2019 19:49

www.lullabytrust.org.uk/the-lullaby-trust-celebrates-25th-anniversary-of-back-to-sleep-campaign/

81% reduction in cot deaths since that campaign Shock

I had no idea.

Haggisfish · 02/11/2019 19:50

There was a reason, I’m sure, but I can’t remember now.

MoobaaMoobaa · 02/11/2019 19:51

Yes Yes. She's saved thousands of lives.

I hope MNHQ can help make this happen.
