As title says.
In our house if thermostat drops to 15C DC will tell me that it's Arctic and want the heating on.
15 isn't that cold is it?!

Hushabyelullaby · 28/10/2019 21:20

Personally 15 is too cold for me, our thermostat is set at 19.

museumum · 28/10/2019 21:28

15 is freezing for sedentary activities like working at the computer or reading. It might feel fine if you’re buzzing about in the kitchen and fine for sleeping but at that temp I’d have to be try g to type in gloves if I were working.
Ours comes on at 18.

SlightlySleepy · 28/10/2019 21:28

Mine is 20 during the day and 16 at night. I wouldn't like to visit someone who's house was 15, I'd spend all my time preoccupied by how cold I am.

BarcelonaFreddie · 28/10/2019 21:33

We whack ours up to 25, just for an hour, or maybe two - during the evening. Then it goes off.

fairydustandpixies · 28/10/2019 21:38
  1. But it's just me and ddog and he doesn't complain that he's cold!
irregularegular · 28/10/2019 21:41

Out thermostat is at 20. 15 is very cold! Would you happily sit still outdoors in indoor clothes at 15 degrees and no sun?

Gov guidelines are for a minimum of 16 degrees in a workplace. Or 13 if doing physical work.

ClientListQueen · 28/10/2019 21:47

If someone came over I would turn the heating up of course! But I'm comfortable - wearing pjs, a cardigan, thermal socks and have a blanket on my lap for the cat. I sleep in thermal socks all year round so fairly standard dress for me

RedSoloCup · 28/10/2019 21:50

Ours 19.5 and I thought my DH was tight 😂😂😂 we're pretty active too.

RLOU30 · 28/10/2019 21:51

21 here sometimes even 22 /3 Blush

stoplickingthetelly · 28/10/2019 21:53

Ours did come on automatically at 17 this afternoon, but I’ve turned it up to 22 tonight because it’s cold. Will turn it back down at bedtime.

IVEgotthePUMPKINS · 28/10/2019 21:53

18 here, at 15 dc4s groegg is all blue and sad looking Sad

inwood · 28/10/2019 21:54

We don't have a thermostat with temp on, I turn it on when I'm cold!

Apolloanddaphne · 28/10/2019 21:55

Ours is set for 20 degrees. If the house drops to 18 I can really feel it.

smartcarnotsosmartdriver · 28/10/2019 21:57

I tend to notice it's cold at about 16 or so. I never have the heating on overnight or when we're out.

NannyR · 28/10/2019 21:57

I switch mine on when the thermostat shows 15 in my living room, I don't usually have the radiator switched on in my bedroom only if it's extremely cold outside and the room is below 13.
I think I must be quite a warm blooded person though as I'm sat here just wearing pjs and my thermostat is showing 15 and I'm feeling quite comfortable.

BuxbyFree · 28/10/2019 22:02

I must be really mard

Mine is set between 22 - 25 Blush depending how cold it is In the summer it was never on but i think its freezing lately

Pixel99 · 28/10/2019 22:06

Not until after November and it is really cold. It goes off after February unless there is a cold snap. I freeze but my DC don't like a warm house. I like hot water bottles all year round.

One tip I was given years ago was after using the oven I leave the door open and use that heat to partially heat the house. You already paid for the heat so why not utilise it a second time.

Winesalot · 28/10/2019 22:10

15 for us too. Today was first day on this season. That’s because we have visitors. We just wear a fleece around normally. No worries.

Krisskrosskiss · 28/10/2019 22:10

16 degrees. No strict rule about it I just turn it on when I'm cold but I have noticed that it often says 16 degrees on it when I go to turn it on so that must be the temp i feel it's cold at!!
I think 15 degrees is cold tbh. It would be mild if you were walking outside in a jumper and a coat but just sat in your house I do think it would feel a bit frosty.

DrCoconut · 28/10/2019 22:18

I just decide when it feels too cold. No amount of jumpers etc make the air warm and it's cold air that exacerbates DS2's asthma so heating is not an optional extra. Plus I hate feeling cold. It's getting down to 1C outside at night now.

notso · 28/10/2019 22:22

Ours is 18 which is fine downstairs as it is open plan with a large conservatory but it's far too hot upstairs.
My plumber is always telling me that downstairs rooms should be 20/21 and bedrooms 18, he's always recommending that I turn the stat up.

Grasspigeons · 28/10/2019 22:28

18 here. In fact 15 is our temp when we are away in winter to stop the pipes freezing. We used to do 12 but the location of some pipes means if a well insulated room drops to 12, they ice up.

Jinglejanglefish · 28/10/2019 22:32

I think the thermostat is set at 20 but I turn it on when i feel cold or need to use the radiators to dry washing.

Lozz22 · 28/10/2019 22:36

Dread to think what temperature my flat is at the moment, but given my electric and heating bill this month is colossal and I'm £500 down on my wages due to being off work I'm refusing to put the heating on at all now until at least Friday. I'm doubling up with layers of clothes instead.

ffswhatnext · 28/10/2019 22:37

I've never bothered to work out how to do it when the temperature drops.
It gets put on when people are cold unless you're sitting around in a vest and shorts.
