At what temperature do you turn on heating?

As title says.
In our house if thermostat drops to 15C DC will tell me that it's Arctic and want the heating on.
15 isn't that cold is it?!

I put mine on last night for the first time since March this year. The temperature outdoors was 12 degrees Celsius, indoors was 17 degrees.

isitpossibleto · 29/10/2019 17:46

We have ours set to 17.5 though it varies occasionally over the winter months.

Sgtmajormummy · 29/10/2019 17:55

Ours is set to come on when the temperature drops below 18 and it’s wonderful.
I have clear memories of living halfway up a mountain and we were lucky if we got 20 degrees in the house.
Now I feel like the Scouse cat in the 80s Heat Electric advert by Creature Comforts. “I come in from a night out and it’s STILL lovely and warm!”

Fookadook · 29/10/2019 17:58

About 18. I grew up in a cold house and so I never want to be that cold again.

Wexone · 29/10/2019 18:01

It 18 degrees in our house, comes on once it goes below that, my partner is a builder and tells me this is the regulated temperature a room should be. 15 is quiet cold. It depsn't cost that much to heat up a room from 15 to 18 degrees. I thought it was 21 degrees for an office as you are not moving as much.

NormaBean · 29/10/2019 18:01

NeverGotMyPuppy yes outside temperature. I have no idea what the temp is inside.

vinoandbrie · 29/10/2019 18:03

Ours is set to 19.5 - 20.5 in the day. It gets so cold otherwise!

Allthepinkunicorns · 29/10/2019 18:05

When the nest says its 10° outside, I then feel coldish and put the heating on.

topcat2014 · 29/10/2019 18:08

Depends where the stat is, surely. 17 degrees in a hallway is likely to equate to 20 in the lounge etc.

Jocasta2018 · 29/10/2019 18:43

It depends on outside. Now it's set at 18c & I will up it to 20c later in the evening when we keel over in front of the tv...
Earlier this month when it was much milder, it was set at 16c and we didn't need it at all.
I hate being cold in the house. From my childhood, I remember ice on the inside of the windows & thinking we'd arrived when we got double glazing! Plus there was the teenage joy of going out in the dark night to get coal from the coal bunker for the boiler.... Switching on gas central heating is such a much-welcome luxury!!

ncfortuesday · 29/10/2019 19:29

19 for us

TheSandman · 29/10/2019 19:35

No idea. We don't ever have it 'ON' we just press the hour boost button when someone feels cold enough to do it. Then it'll quite often get cancelled before the hour is up.

bobstersmum · 29/10/2019 19:56

I'd need thermals on at 15!
Ours never goes below 17.5

AFistfulofDolores1 · 29/10/2019 20:01

21 degrees. Our bill reflects this, but that's where our comfort zones lie.

Beacauseisaidso · 29/10/2019 21:30

Re wood burner, we live very close to a national trust property so all of our wood comes from there, it barely has to travel to get to us, also have green energy supplier.
I realised that thermostat is in cooler part of house in the hallway, so probably a bit warmer in other rooms

Omg 15*. I would have a constant cold at the temperature

Permanently since end sept
From 7.30 till 6pm 20*
Then 22* till 10.30pm

It will stay like that now till March

Nat6999 · 29/10/2019 21:41

My heating is on 19°, I'm sat in a cropped top & thin PJ bottoms & still too hot, will be glad when the radiators cool down.

MaidenMotherCrone · 29/10/2019 23:18

21* from 6am until 10pm then off completely. The house stays warm through the night.

I dislike visiting people with cold (to me) houses so I don't do it.

I have cats too. They feel the cold. My Oriental girl shivers and wants to live in comfort. I'd rather go without other things than live in a cold miserable house.

Branleuse · 29/10/2019 23:25

Id be miserable if my house was 15 degrees inside. Thats chilly. Id need my coat on.
My thermostat is set to 19. I find that the perfect indoor temperature

JassyRadlett · 30/10/2019 10:37

18 is a warm summer’s day, I’d hate that as a permanent temperature.

Gosh where do you live?

TheSandman · 30/10/2019 11:34

WTF!? I clean a house where the thermostat is sometimes set to 19. I have to strip down to my shirt - and occasionally beyond - it's so effing hot. Too hot to work comfortably. I wish I had a thermometer in my house to find out where my comfort zone is, though, basically, now I come to think of it if my breath isn't misting then I'm OK.

Dowser · 30/10/2019 11:53

The heating in our house is switched off at bedtime
It was 17.5 this morning in the bedroom. The warmest room in the house
We have an 8 foot double radiator in there
If we want the rest of the house to be warmer we switch it off
Living / dining room has an 8 foot double and an 8 foot single ( we have lots of drying space👍)
The rest are just normal size
Ours is a draughty bungalow and if I need the heating on on a damp wet july day and the air feels damp inside
I’ll put it on
We don’t tend to live here an awful lot any way
January being the only full month de spend here

ConFusion360 · 30/10/2019 11:54

Do you live alone?

ArthurtheCatsHumanSlave · 30/10/2019 11:56

Thermostat set to 21c but then we also have thermostats on all the rads, so not all will come on. Generally find that the heating will come on, when outside temp is about 10/12 - I think our house must be quite well insulated, and it helps if it is sunny, because the front of the house faces South. The kitchen and conservatory at the back are always freezing.

I always think it is better to keep a good ambient temp going anyway, rather than trying to heat up a cold house every time.

TheSandman · 30/10/2019 14:46

No, but we do tend to huddle together like penguins.
