As title says.
In our house if thermostat drops to 15C DC will tell me that it's Arctic and want the heating on.
15 isn't that cold is it?!

Usually is it drops below 14 in the house I’ll put the heating on.

Ilikewinter · 28/10/2019 22:43

Our thermostat is set to heat upto 17 but im not sure its that accurate tbh....we only have the timer on for an hour in the morning and evening and it turns on and off as needed.....however i did get up at 5am and heating wasnt on it was 13.5 degrees.....it felt cold! Bedroom radiator is only ever set on 2 as i cant sleep in a hot room.

TildaKauskumholm · 28/10/2019 22:56

15 overnight, then up to about 17 during the day for me, up to 18/19 for the evening when DH comes home. PILs house is at 24 all the time and I cannot bear it.

Paintedmaypole · 28/10/2019 22:58

16 is the temperature below which sedentary workers in an office are not expected to work. 15 is too cold for a home. Around 20 is more reasonable.

Nat6999 · 28/10/2019 23:30

My thermostat is set at 19 degrees, the heating ison every day from 6.30am to 10.00am & comes back on at 3.00pm & goes off at 9.30pm. I'm at home all day & once it gets to winter I put it back on around lunchtime & keep it on until 9.30pm, it only goes on all day if the temperature outside falls below freezing. I pay £90 a month for my gas & electric combined & usually get a refund on my anniversary every year.

LemonPrism · 28/10/2019 23:56

When I'm wearing a dressing gown, 2 blankets, socks and PJs and am still cold.

I'm hot blooded anyway but just skint. Our house never gets too cold though whereas I thought I was going to freeze to death at my mums last week... but couldn't remember where her thermostat was. I slept in two dressing gowns!

LemonPrism · 28/10/2019 23:58

I think her house was at 10. Honestly felt it in my bones

OctoberLovesCasper · 29/10/2019 00:06

My partner has always been a "coldy" but he is now on blood thinners and i dont know how he is going to cope.

Heating has been on all day since 8am.
Electric heater in the bedroom been on since 4pm....
He has 2 pairs of jogging bottoms on.
A thick long sleeve, and a hoodie and a hat...

I am gonna hate this winter.
I cant sleep with the radiator's on, altho i spend every night in the spare room as he is a nosy sleeper and im a light sleeper. So the rad is off in 'my room' :)

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 29/10/2019 01:04

15 is far too cold, we have friends that don’t put the heating on and it’s awful being cold as a guest.

I like a warm house so set the thermostat to around 21 when we are home and a few degrees less when not so the animals are still ok. We ensure we recycle etc so are aware of the environmental impact we have as a family.

linentowel · 29/10/2019 06:32

I’d not cope at 15. I jut put it on when I am cold. It’s been on mornings and evenings for a couple of weeks now.

DH is scraping the car as we speak. I’m in bed with hoodie, pjs, joggers, socks, duvet and blanket waiting on house heating up.

U2HasTheEdge · 29/10/2019 07:06

Might is set for 21.5 at the moment.

My house is very warm. I can't stand being cold and I am very cold blooded.

ChasingRainbows19 · 29/10/2019 07:45

Just gone from an old boiler and no thermostat it was always on or off and house felt so cold, to a new eco friendly with smart thermostat with app control too so it's my new toy.

Currently Set to heat back to 18 degrees for an hour in a morn. If we are out it's on eco mode ( basically off) back up to 18 at tea time and then another boost to warm to 18/19 for 8pm then it's off again for the night. I can't have a too warm bedroom to sleep in and usually I've noticed that when we go to bed the house is still about 18/19 and the heating will have been off for a while.

When I'm home it's 18 and I just nudge it up to 19 for a short burst if it feels chilly and I'm not moving. We had new insulation so that helps and so far the house maintains temp when set to 18 so it's not on all the time.

This morning it was 16 with no heating on for me that's a bit chilly inside. So I think 15 standard temp is cold. My house would feel a bit damp in that. I grew up without Central heating and we had fires too so stayed by then most of the time as the house was cold!

Ellabella989 · 29/10/2019 07:49

We put ours on manually when it gets cold. It’s usually when the house is below 17 that we feel we need it on for a few hours (at around 20 degrees). We also have an electric blanket which we put on for an hour when we get into bed and it’s so cosy!
We do sit on the sofa with a blanket wearing slippers and warm jumpers etc but we both feel the cold so the heating is usually put on at this time of year for about 4 hours in the evening

PulpPixie · 29/10/2019 07:51
  1. I grew up in a freezing house which was miserable and I work in a freezing place as we have no heating. I refuse to be freezing at home
Karwomannghia · 29/10/2019 08:03

If I see 15 I think blimey no wonder I’m freezing! It wouldn’t be 15 in a room with a wood burner but I expect your ds doesn’t always stay in that room so while you might be boiling he’ll be cold.
I just put mine on when I’m cold apart from morning and night settings as I don’t want it coming on when I’m out.

abatculledjohn · 29/10/2019 08:12

The min temp in the UK for office work is 16C, so letting it drop to 15C in your house is insane.

ShinyGiratina · 29/10/2019 09:12

I was OK sitting around at 15oC when I was heavily pregnant with 8+lb of human being inside me and scantily clad in the remnants of maternity clothes that could still go around my body. Otherwise 17-18oC if I'm busy in the day. A couple oC more at night when we're sitting around.

Currently visiting and I'm wearing thermal running gear under my normal clothes as the relative is phobic of heating the home up (not financial). The problem is that a little burst here and there does nothing in a house of frigid concrete walls and floors where less than half is usually heated. I'm sleeping badly as I end up over heating in a tangled mess of heavy bedding then any protrouding body parts very quickly get deep chilled. One of the DCs woke up absolutely deep chilled after getting too hot and sleeping in top of the duvet. The other DC's winter cough has started and the inhalers are out. It is ruining the visit.

Any more layers will still do nothing for my extremities and nose drip.

Hey1256 · 29/10/2019 09:14

My gosh 15 is absolutely freezing. I'm freezing when mine goes to 17, I like it at an absolute minimum of 19 degrees and mostly 21-22 winter

myusernamewastakenbyme · 29/10/2019 09:21

My thermostat is showing 14.5 at the moment and starting to feel chilly....im here on my own and seems a waste to put the heating on just for me.

Kelsoooo · 29/10/2019 09:22

My house never drops beneath 20.
I can't stand it, and end up in pain if I'm sitting around and it's cold.

theneverendinglaundry · 29/10/2019 09:30

21 but it rarely drops below that in my house so only clicks on for a little while first thing in the morning.

I don't have the heating in at night.

Shodan · 29/10/2019 09:39

Blimey.

I thought I was being virtuous having mine set at 19.5 Blush I do run very cold though- ds2 is sitting in shorts and a t shirt and I'm still in my fleecy dressing gown, fluffy slippers and under a blanket! And my hands and wrists are still cold.

sideorderofchips · 29/10/2019 09:55

Our house has three storage heaters downstairs and no heat source upstairs

So we put the storage heaters on when it’s too cold for even blankets. And upstairs we have two oil radiators for the kids rooms. May have to buy one for me and Dh room this year as it’s cold already

Bluetac19 · 29/10/2019 09:57

Comes on at 12.5 degrees but I put it on at other times if I'm cold.

delilahbucket · 29/10/2019 10:02

Ours is set at 20. I work from home and I can't work wrapped up in jumpers and blankets.
