As title says.
In our house if thermostat drops to 15C DC will tell me that it's Arctic and want the heating on.
15 isn't that cold is it?!

Ours is set at 19.
15 is too cold for me.

Villanellebelle · 29/10/2019 11:21

Wow 15 is freezing Shock
Ours is on if drops anywhere below 19/20

jinsty · 29/10/2019 11:28

Brrr! I suppose I get it for those that live alone and are trying to save pennies but you can't expect your family members to suffer.

My DM lives alone and wonders why we don't tend to visit her at her house but she never puts the heating on! Fine for her but she can't expect people to stay if her house is a fridge, If we visit in the winter the kids can't wait to get back in the car to get warm. It's ridiculous!

SpaceCadet4000 · 29/10/2019 11:29

It varies. Right now, I've got it set to 21, but I know it'll get to 21 and stay there for a few hours while I work from home. Generally, we'd have it at 18, especially when it gets really cold.

maryberryslayers · 29/10/2019 11:32

Bloody hell, that's freezing! Ours is on 21-22 in the day and 19 at night. The house never drops below 18-19 though and once it's warm stays so, so it doesn't cost us too much.

Asta19 · 29/10/2019 12:06

Blankets and jumpers are all very well but make it harder to get on with day to day living! I'll happily sit under blankets if I'm just watching TV or something but if I have things to do I need the house to be a reasonable temperature. I always have the heating off at night as I got hot then anyway (menopause) but I still feel the cold in the day so I set it for around 19 during the day. Can go up as much as 21 if I'm really cold or been out in the cold for a long time. 15 is chilly even to me and I'm someone who hates summer heat.

managedmis · 29/10/2019 12:08

Ours is set to 18 overnight, 20 when we're home. Live abroad though and cannot have the heating off at any time once it's cold or the pipes will freeze

managedmis · 29/10/2019 12:09

My parents house is super cold, when we visited last Christmas the kids were constantly huddled against the radiators. Just turn up the heat!

HeadBrickWall · 29/10/2019 12:25

15 for living area is freezing! I'd be ok with that for sleeping.
Ours is at 21, I wear fleece lined crocs, scarf, jumper and a gilet. The others are in socks and a jumper. Any colder and the DC would want to huddle under blankets rather than play.

PotteringAlong · 29/10/2019 13:05

Ours is set to come on if it’s drops below 15c too

Dowser · 29/10/2019 13:18

Another 21/22 here
Can’t stand being cold
Was in Tenerife last week... a little sundress and some undies and no bedclothes at night
Sheer bliss

BarbedBloom · 29/10/2019 16:14

We tend to prefer a cold house. We have windows open in bedroom during the day as I can only sleep in a cold room and DH runs hot naturally. So normally I am bundled up so only put it on when my hands start to feel cold. However, we have cats so I do put it on now when it hits about 16/17 as I don't want them to be cold. We also will heat the house to at least 18 - 20 when we know we have guests coming.

CakeNinja · 29/10/2019 16:35

Ours comes on when it drops below 22 downstairs and 20 in bedrooms although I put mine up to higher than that when I’m actually in there unless I’m going to sleep.
I think one of the dds puts hers up and one puts hers down.
It’s handy having individual room thermostats though as no one has been in the front room all day so it’s not ‘cold’ but if we wanted to go and sit in there it’s comfortable and will only take minutes to heat up.
I hate being cold, always feel chilly and wouldn’t want to sit in 4 layers of clothes under 3 blankets while wearing a dressing gown to avoid turning it on.

ConFusion360 · 29/10/2019 16:47

However, we have cats so I do put it on now when it hits about 16/17 as I don't want them to be cold.

They have fur coats on all the time.

havingtochangeusernameagain · 29/10/2019 17:05

When I feel cold with a jumper on. I think the thermostat is set at 19 degrees, but it's on a timer too so isn't on for a large part of the day. We have a gas fire in the lounge so DH will put that on if he is cold, but generally I just put more clothes on, or use a fan heater for an hour.

Notverygrownup · 29/10/2019 17:12

16-18 here - but if you are concerned for the environment then the wood burner ain't great news . . . .

zafferana · 29/10/2019 17:18

Our thermostat is set to 20 I think. I only have certain 'zones' on, but it's enough to heat our house as it's super-insulated, so very energy efficient.

Wood burners are bad news - bad for household air quality and also wood-smoke is bad for the environment. You're better of signing up with a 'green' energy supplier.

RatherBeRiding · 29/10/2019 17:22

16 is my cut off. But I grew up without central heating and get really uncomfortable if it's higher than about 18! And I really struggle to sleep in a warm bedroom so the heating goes off overnight unless it's really, really, really Arctic outside.....

thatwasMauijustmessingaround · 29/10/2019 17:26

Our thermostat clicks on around 16-17 degrees. Anything lower feels Baltic to me.

NormaBean · 29/10/2019 17:27

Wow these are really high temperatures. 18 is a warm summer’s day, I’d hate that as a permanent temperature.

I like to be chilly and wrapped up so we’ll have a fire on of an evening once it gets to this point in the year and heating won’t go on until it’s around 5/6.

RedJoan · 29/10/2019 17:32

18 generally, sometimes 20 if I feel I need it. The air will be cold at 15. I would hate to get a shower at 15 degrees.... it would feel like a campsite shower.

Fairylea · 29/10/2019 17:37

We don’t have ours on a thermostat, we just turn it on if we get cold. We turn it up to about 22 for a few hours and then turn it off again.

When we were really broke one year we didn’t have the heating on apart from one hour in the morning and one hour in the evening. It was so miserable. We used to do star jumps in fleece jackets to keep warm...! I feel really sorry for anyone who can’t afford heating. It’s awful feeling cold. (Sorry went off on a bit of a tangent there!)

Chottie · 29/10/2019 17:38

15 degrees is way too low and cold for me!

Our thermostat is set at about 19 degrees and the heating kicks in automatically.

I spent my childhood in a house with no heating except for log fires downstairs. You could see your breath in the bathroom and the bedroom windows were covered with ice on the inside each morning. Now I have a choice, I like to be warm....

ColdTattyWaitingForSummer · 29/10/2019 17:39

Wow 15 is freezing! I don’t have a thermostat, so our heating is on a timer. I’ll also click it on for an hour if I’m chilly. In our last house I think it was set to around 20?

NeverGotMyPuppy · 29/10/2019 17:39

@NormaBean are you talking external temperature?
How does your house get that cold?!
