What true crime has left you baffled?

I'm watching a show on sky crime called, "Who killed Garrett Phillips."

I'm baffled at how the police came to the conclusion that their main suspect did it. Apart from the fact, that he was on camera in his car at the school (he worked there) and the victim was also on camera 7 seconds later, nowhere near his car.

It is truly bizarre.

Asha Degree.

I can't remember the name of the man involved. He had a bomb strapped to his neck. He had to make different location points by a certain time. He failed to do it and died. I kept thinking about him for weeks afterwards.

Autumnchill · 28/10/2019 06:59

@KnifeAngel wasn't it proven that he was actually involved in the bank robberies?

KnifeAngel · 28/10/2019 07:37

I don't know @Autumnchill. Surely you wouldn't blow yourself up.

The Jill Dando murder . So sad , she was lovely .

LoveNote · 28/10/2019 07:52

Abby and Libby....Delphi murders

Libby knew the situation was off....she filmed the murderer as he approached. She recorded his voice.....yet still, they have not caught this guy

What more do they need it’s almost handed in a plate. Take a look at the case.

LoveNote · 28/10/2019 07:53

Oh, and who did kill Jon Benet??

Cos I’m truly baffled there

CatToddlerUprising · 28/10/2019 07:54

Elisa Lam. The video released is quite chilling

TravellingSpoon · 28/10/2019 07:56

I believe that Ashas parents know what happened to her.

The Springfield Three fascinates me. How can a woman, her daughter and her friend simply disappear. I dont believe they are still alive, but I hope the families get answers one day.

TheGirlFromStoryville · 28/10/2019 08:01

Mystery of Somerton Man - just so strange.

Jack the Ripper - I've read lots of books on this but I don't think it'll ever get solved.

Also the Zodiac killer.

CathyorClaire · 28/10/2019 08:01

Jeremy Bamber.

CigarsofthePharoahs · 28/10/2019 08:01

Well the East Area Rapist for one. So many cases, so much evidence and the police - absolutely nothing. It's chilling, the attacks went on for so long and then just stopped. The perpetrator is probably dead but it would be good for the victims to have some sort of closure.
Adam in the Thames. Who was he? Did he have any living relatives? Poor wee lad. There was a possibility of an ID a while back, but iirc it came to nothing.

Potnoodledoo · 28/10/2019 08:04

The thing that gets me about Asha is why didnt the truck driver or the motorist call the police. He saw a child alone, run in to the woods.

I find them more suspect to be honest.

CigarsofthePharoahs · 28/10/2019 08:07

@KnifeAngel there's a Netflix documentary called Evil Genius about that case. I believe the conclusion was that the victim was associated with the criminals but didn't really understand what he was getting involved in. He was manipulated to help them and then forced into the bomb collar.
None of the police officers on the scene believed it was a real bomb until too late.

OtraCosaMariposa · 28/10/2019 08:09

Listen to a podcast called "The Lady Vanishes". It's the weirdest thing I've ever heard. In brief: Australian teacher comes to the UK on holiday and is never seen again. Later transpires that all sorts of odd things were going on like she changed her name to something unusual and someone emptied her bank account. Her daughter is convinced of foul play. Nobody knows whether she left to start a new life, or was murdered, or what happened. It's very odd and really worth a listen.

Veterinari · 28/10/2019 08:12

@CigarsofthePharoahs. The East area rapist case has been solved with the perpetrator awaiting trial. It made massive news headlines due to the use of genetic genealogy. He’s also known as the Holden state killer - the cases are all linked

fatisnotafeeling · 28/10/2019 08:13

@CigarsofthePharoahs - The East area rapist was caught earlier this yr. he is now called the Golden State killer because he was also The original night stalker who killed 13 by breaking into their homes.

His name is Joseph James Deangelo.

Mateusz Kawecki. Most of the stuff about that case is in Polish but there is an excellent reddit page about it. Just bizarre.

sprite25 · 28/10/2019 08:45

I remember reading on here, and then googling something about a young man in the US who was driving along a road. I think he phoned emergency services or something to report a crash maybe (can't remember all the details) then the line went dead. Then he made a call to I think a family member shouting and screaming that 'they're chasing me, they're coming for me'. They found his vehicle at the side of the road, his phone in a neighbouring field but the young man was never seen again and they had no idea what happened to him.

I watch a lot of true crimes on the investigation channel, there's a series called " Disappeared " most of the victims as the name suggests just Disappear sometimes a body is found but usually the families have no.idea what's happened to their loved one it's earily fascinating.

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 28/10/2019 08:55

I agree on elisa lam. That security cam footage was chilling.

It's terrifying the amount of people that just disappear. Claudia Lawrence it just seems impossible to leave no cctv or data just to vanish. I feel so much for families who do not have closure.
