A blast from MN past....anyone up for a healthy boot camp?

MissFitton · 27/10/2019 22:14

Ok, was musing earlier on a) how long I've been posting on here and b) my middle aged spread Hmmand I remembered contributing to the boot camp threads of ahem twelve or so years ago.

Thought it was time to dust them off....

The rules:

This is about feeling better about yourself...not necessarily a diet per se etc etc

  • Sunscreen at all times
  • No or little booze. Wine at the weekend is allowed if you want it
  • Walking is important, a small amount every day if possible. 30 mins if you can
  • Lots of water, aim for 2 litres a day
  • Apply body cream as often as possible
  • Use hand cream
  • Go to bed early, by 10.30pm if pos
  • Eat healthily
  • Be happy

So. I found it beneficial in my thirties, will see if the rules hold up in my forties. Anyone else in?

@thenewaveragebear1983 sorry to hear about your cat Flowers

MissFitton · 01/11/2019 13:20

Seaside I too am impressed with the running. I'm also a park runner, I do love it, really inclusive if anyone else fancies it.

Hoping everyone is ok Smile. I haven't been able to take vitamins as they say to take with food but can't face eating at the min as feel constantly full.
I had a physio appointment yesterday and I'm allowed to do gentle exercise now so I booked into a Pilates class next week. Bit nervous as I haven't done anything like that before and last fitness I attended was pe at school in the 90s.

Thecrown3 · 01/11/2019 20:53

Setback for me...
Yesterday came down with awful sore throat/chesty cough, no gym last night , nor tonight and have succumbed to chocolate and crisp so probably wiped out all my good work of resisting all week.did manage my vitamins/moisturiser/water ! Onwards and upwards

Rosebud21 · 01/11/2019 21:06

@Magneticred most of these classes cater for newbies and have different levels in the same class. Enjoy it

Magneticred · 01/11/2019 21:11

@Thecrown3 I hope you feel better soon.
@Rosebud21 thank you for the reassurance Smile. Once I'm back to being able to bend and walk without limping I'm going to get a full membership they are offering a session with a personal trainer and a fitness plan.

ValiaH · 01/11/2019 23:15

Well, yesterday I drank 2l of water! Also had pizza for tea instead of chips for lunch, which was nice. Definitely counted towards 'be happy'! And today I have walked loads as we went on a train to a nearby museum and walked around lots. Tired out now, had less water than yesterday but still around 700ml which is better, and herbal tea rather than decaff diet coke in the evening. I am also moisturised and sunscreened! Foing this has been a great motivation, and reminded me how much I have forgotten to look after myself recently. Well done everyone who's been running, I really do not have the stamina or dedication to do that in this weather. @Thecrown3 hope you feel better soon, vitamins, water, moisturiser sounds good considering you're not feeling well.

MissFitton · 02/11/2019 08:02

Good morning boot campers!

Off to park run for me today. I'm a bit laxer with the healthy eating at the weekend but may forego wine. Or may not. Grin

Have a good day all!

I’m joining you to the park run fitton!

SeaSidePebbles · 02/11/2019 09:33

It got cancelled🤷🏻‍♀️

Magneticred · 02/11/2019 10:17

Good luck on the park run MissFitton.

That's not good SeaSidePebbles
My exercise for today is tidying the house top to bottom and trying to enlist the DC to help. We are supposed to be doing a Halloween disco for them tonight as they missed the school 1 due to illness and after-school isn't good for my 2 with sn tends to stimulate them too much and knock off their routine.
Also going to meal plan I've a list of foods that should help with my ibs symptoms so going to try and incorporate them into meals as I tend to make 2 options as 1 DC is veggie and another is very fussy. We are working on fussy one at min started a reward chart for eating a mouthful of food he normally point blank refuses.
Managed to put moisturiser on every morning and night this week and sun screen each mornong, I've also started using an eye cream for puffy eyes so hopefully will see a change soon.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 02/11/2019 16:23

I ran 3km this morning on the treadmill but had to stop due to a pain in my hamstring/glute which is causing me some hassle. I've just done 20mins with the foam roller instead as I would quite like to get my long run in tomorrow.

Foods not ideal today, but like the poster above I am meal planning today for week beginning tomorrow. I haven't quite started November as I planned to but I am determined to get back into it.

I'm exhausted today; we went to the theatre last night, trains were cancelled, last train was delayed and we didn't get home til 12, bed at 1 and was up at 7. That hasn't helped with my food unfortunately.

TheABC · 02/11/2019 16:27

Add me in. I need to drink more water, although the walking has shot up since we sold the car. :-)

I will rope DH in for a game tonight if I am not too knackered..

ConfusedAndStressed95 · 02/11/2019 23:54

Anther bad day here. I was out for a friends birthday last night and had a bit too much to drink. Oh well tomorrow is a new day so we'll see what happens.

SeaSidePebbles · 03/11/2019 08:17

I cleaned yesterday, I did the food shop, but apart from that I sat on my arse. I nibbled at stuff, think marmite rice cakes with a slice of cheese and toms, grapes. I did drink though.
I’m planning to go for a swim today!

MissFitton · 03/11/2019 17:27

Not especially active today although I've got on with lots of admin which has been hanging around for ages. Have also batch cooked for lunches for the week.

So, end of week one, how is everyone doing? I really feel being accountable on a thread provides enough of a conscience to help me make better choices and the prospect of only another two weeks of being good before I start again seems doable.

OP posts:
Magneticred · 03/11/2019 18:28

Activity wise I've been dancing around with the DC for some unknown reason and I wrestled a 2 yr old in the bath. She hates going in and coming out then it's like wrestling an eel to get her dressed afterwards.
I have my first Pilates class tomorrow and getting nervous which isn't helping my ibs, and to make it worse I had a dream I spent all class hiding as I had really bad wind Blush.
I've got a list of things to buy to replace a few things like bread.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 03/11/2019 20:24

Honestly? I'm doing pretty terribly so far- but various social and other factors have been in play. Tomorrow I can start properly. I'm planning on doing a full week of Fast800, and provided I do actually do this, I anticipate it being quite effective. I just need to step away from the kitchen....

I did get out for a run today with Dh, just a 5km, and have walked a few miles to see some fireworks this evening too.

Tomorrow I will do my usual 6km run, and maybe a yoga YouTube as well. But it's always food that's my downfall and I really need to focus on getting it right this week.

Good luck for the week ahead everyone!

MissFitton · 03/11/2019 21:05

That sounds like a great plan bear.

Good luck all for the next week!

Happiness going well, water intake slowly increasing. Moisturiser and handcream are go!

MissFitton · 04/11/2019 07:15

Week two.

Managed to lose a couple of pounds last week. Will keep going this week and aim to lose a couple more.

Have a good week bootcampers!

OP posts:
ValiaH · 04/11/2019 09:56

Happiness- pretty good. Unfortunately the lurgy has hit our household and I am wiped out, as are 2 of the kids.
Water- better than before starting but not 2l, I have been averaging around 750ml a day which is better than previously.
I keep forgetting sunscreen or even moisturiser at the moment!
I am eating healthier foods though, even though they are comfort foods- things like pasta and pesto with veg, and tinned fruit. Too much coffee and coke zero though! So am reducing that again as of today. I have vitamins and orange juice so hopefully that will beat this coldy thing.

MinnieMountain · 04/11/2019 14:17

The end of the first week was rather scuppered by DS being ill on Friday, so I couldn't swim. Then we had his birthday so I ate cake, which I'm trying not to.

This week is already going better as I swam, then did Pilates this morning.

The water and moisturising definitely makes me feel better about myself.

Things I learnt:
-alcohol really affects my sleep.
-I need a backup time to exercise.

  • the water is easy to achieve if you have a large drink of it twice a day.
thenewaveragebear1983 · 04/11/2019 14:47

I've had a good start to the week. I've so far:
Done a food shop using my meal plan and added zero extras
Made a red pepper soup (spicy!)
Blitzed a head of cauli to make two batches of cauli rice to freeze

I've been for a 6.5k run too

I really enjoyed my alpro/chia pot this morning so I'm going to do another tonight for tomorrow.
I've also drunk several refills of my water bottle, I'm aiming for 4 each day and I really notice the benefit in the evening when I get them in early.

For the first time ever on a Monday (or feels like) I did not weigh myself. I know the weekend was bad. I made the positive step to not punish myself for this, just get back on track today. This is a huge thing for me.

Really enjoying this thread, have a great week everyone.

Spoonsmum · 04/11/2019 19:24

I love this thread :)
I struggle with all the things on the list. I work in a pub so the alcohol thing is a nightmare, always have a drink (or 3) after work in the evening. Gave up smoking last year and then stupidly have started again this month. So stupid I know.

I drink lots of squash and tea but no plain water no where near 2 litres.

Diet is ok as I cook every day for the dcs

Walking is hit and miss although I do get 30 mins on the school run

I never wear sunscreen

I never moisturise. I don’t actually own any skincare stuff. Maybe some hand cream somewhere in a drawer. So this will be a chance to see what all the fuss is about :)
