Cat ate a mouse whole, seems to be feeling rough!

DD saw our cat swallow a mouse whole this morning 🤢. He was seemingly fine all day and ate his dinner but now appears very uncomfortable - hissed at me, cries if I try to pick him up, seems to have tummy ache and is wobbly on his legs. I think it must be due to the mouse as he’s not injured. His breathing is fine. Kids worrying he won’t last the night but I think they are being dramatic. Thoughts? Apart from thoughts about him being a bad mouse-murderer which we have already had!

I hope it’s bruising

Dizzygirl00 · 21/10/2019 09:52

Hope your beautiful cat is ok today, and yourself too 🙂

WaningGibbous · 21/10/2019 09:58

That's some badass cat to catch and eat a mouse after being run over - I hope he keeps up that attitude and is home soon.

Hello Tunnocks, popped back in to see about TunnocksPuss, v good news about the xray.

I have a lovely friend who also lost her DH when her son was small. She has exactly the same feelings of exhaustion from grief and being The Responsible Adult. She also has a ginger cat who got himself run over and came home with a badly broken leg. He is now fine and refuses to curtail his wanderings around the neighbourhood.

Moggies are hugely resilient. Flowers

Ahh Tunnocks he's more than a cat. I'm sure he's just a bit sore and feeling a bit daft.

I can offer a tail of a rather idiotic dog though. He belonged to my late Mum and we used to joke that living with her clearly made him suicidal.

His first brush was eating the remnants of a firework, whole, whilst out on a walk. Large vet bill.

His second brush was when Mum happened to drop a strip of water tablets without realising. Force fed charcoal, peed a lot for 2 days. Large vet bill.

His last brush was when he managed to get out of the front door after the wind blew it open. He saw Mum chatting to a neighbour across the road and ran in front of a car. Broken leg, very sorry himself, Astronomical vet bill.

He came to live with us for a bit after she died but never settled. He now lives with a lovely old couple not dissimilar to Mum and is spoiled rotten. As far as I'm aware his attempts to break the veterinary bill world record have subsided with age.

Iguanas! Of course, we should have guessed that they were the culprits, scaly cat-fighting bastards that they are. Bet the vet didn't think of that as a differential diagnosis though.

Hope Lovely Cat will soon be feeling better.

Popping back for an update.
He is a very handsome kitty.
Hope you had a decent sleep after all OP.

Just wanted to share another “cat hit by car and recovered” story. Mine broke her pelvis in 2 places but was up and walking around after a couple of days of painkillers, and made a full recovery. My heart sank when I first found her though, she’d just managed to pull herself through the cat flap before collapsing and was completely floppy. Here’s to a happy end to your dcat’s story too.

❤️ all your messages! Super busy day at work but I finish at 2.15 after starting at 8.15 (these part timers). Quick update before I take kids to swimming lessons - he’s coming home tonight!!!

Great news for tunnockscat.

PancakeAndKeith · 21/10/2019 16:30

Yay. He must be on the mend if they are sending him home.

tunnocksreturns2019 · 21/10/2019 16:42

Picking him up in an hour. Still a query over something neurological going on (gait still a bit funny) but he’s feeling okay on lower doses of painkiller now and apparently much happier. Can’t wait to get him back! Also quite excited about getting some proper sleep tonight 💤

TheZeppo · 21/10/2019 16:48

So pleased for you. I know you don’t feel like superwoman, but I read your posts with awe. You’re holding everyone up and together.

My kitty got hit by a car when he was a kitten. Broke his leg badly and was in a cast for weeks. You’d never know now though- fit as a fiddle!

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 21/10/2019 16:59
