What do you ACTUALLY judge mothers on?

Inspired by the child in the buggy thread, I realised I hardly judge anything really, mainly because I have an unruly child with additional needs so in our house, pretty much anything goes. You have to be kind, and you have to wear pants. And that’s it.

What does anyone actually judge about, regarding parents with young children?

I judge mothers who judge :)

popcorndiva · 16/10/2019 20:39

Dummies for 3 or 4 year olds.
Forward facing car seats for Under ones
Tea in a bottle

slipperywhensparticus · 16/10/2019 20:40

@Spied
Also mother's who allow their very little DC to sleep out at others' houses hmm

Smoking.

Ignoring your child for your phone. Sometimes we all need to reply to a quick text or check some info, but there's a bloke who does the nursery run on my bus every morning and he plays a shit game on his phone the entire time. His three year old son is completely ignored.

Smacking, tap on the hand or any other use of violence on a child.

Dressing little girls up like a cross between Shirley Temple and an 80's bog roll cover.

Going 'there there' at the slightest trip or bump and telling them to be careful all the time. Who needs confidence and resilience, ay?

Gertie75 · 16/10/2019 20:45

Parents staring at their phones or constantly checking them.
Overweight kids with overweight parents.
Not disciplining bad behaviour.
Bragging.

popcorndiva · 16/10/2019 20:45

Oh and those massive bow headbands on newborns.

hopityhopity · 16/10/2019 20:46

Anyone else reading through the comments and thinking 'oh yes, that too!'? Grin

Somerville · 16/10/2019 20:46

I know it's a typo but "budget pants" is great grin. Like the pants version of Premier Inn.

Perhaps I made more of a Freudian slip than a typo, essentialhummus, because I’m wearing new pants from a supermarket which aren’t very comfortable. Grin

littlestrawby · 16/10/2019 20:51

Oh my goodness, these descriptions of how some parents have been heard speaking to their children makes me so sad Sad

hopityhopity · 16/10/2019 20:54

"Gentle" parents who do nothing to stop their child from hitting other children, etc

This. It's not even parenting. It's called can't be bothered. If they decide to leave a violent life and end up in prison I should let them follow their path. Whilst I post on Facebook asking if wine is acceptable at 11am because it's so hard having a child not to parent.

Yeahthatthing · 16/10/2019 20:55

The not appropriately dressed for the weather thing- my 3yo choses his own clothes, almost invariably shorts and wellies, regardless of the weather (we look out the window each morning). It can be icy and pissing down and he'll refuse a coat or trousers (happily wear a hat and gloves). I let him get on with it. You can almost guarantee that within 5 minutes he'll be asking for his coat. I always carry appropriate clothes with me, he's just not always wearing them.

hopityhopity · 16/10/2019 20:56

Live a violet life* autocorrect!

AnneTwackie · 16/10/2019 20:56

Rotten teeth, head lice for a prolonged period, smelling of smoke.

pollysproggle · 16/10/2019 20:56

I didn't think I was that judgy but most things mentioned would cause me to raise an eyebrow. However, I could imagine in my mind that it's a one off, off day etc because you don't know their life.

The thing I judge most of all which I can never get past or find an excuse for in my mind is when children are very overweight.

AnneTwackie · 16/10/2019 20:57

And all of the above Grin

Boots20 · 16/10/2019 21:00

Not holding their toddlers hands (and in some cases letting them run ahead while they chat on phone) beside busy roads, it only takes a second for a toddler to get distracted and run onto a road & the mums wouldnt be able to react in time to grab them. Drives me mad

twinkledag · 16/10/2019 21:00

Smoking when pregnant
Swearing around kids
Babies eating MacDonald's and drinking coke

Someonesayroadtrip · 16/10/2019 21:02

Coke in bottles or energy drinks go toddlers.

BalloonSlayer · 16/10/2019 21:08

Most of the above but would add:

  • parents dressed really warmly but DC with no coat/gloves
  • parent riding bike with full bike helmet and baby in baby seat without one
  • very glamorous mum who has given her young DD a really unflattering frumpy haircut. Makes me think she doesn't want to be outshone by her own daughter.
  • mums who criticise their DD's weight.
Venger · 16/10/2019 21:11

I judge mothers who judge

Same here.

For one, I don't take that much notice of what strangers around me are doing. For another, I figure we've all got our own stuff going on and we all have little battles that we need to pick and choose.

Anyone else reading through the comments and thinking 'oh yes, that too!'?

I'm reading through them and compiling a mental list of all the judgemental arseholes....

Venger · 16/10/2019 21:13

Mothers who want more kids but abort disabled or otherwise inconvenient children.

You are not pro-choice, no matter how you claim to be it and your comment is disgusting. You ought to be ashamed.

namechangaroonie · 16/10/2019 21:13

Parents who don’t work, but don’t attend school stuff - come to bloody Christmas play and clap your kid and be proud of them ffs!

A girl I used to work with has posted a video of her 6month old son eating a big Mac tonight and titled it “weaning going well, he’s just like his dad”

runninguphills · 16/10/2019 21:14

Parents being using aggressive/swearing threats to their children.

Babies with earrings. I know it's a minor thing but they are too small and have such lovely soft baby ears to have earrings forced through them.

spice3 · 16/10/2019 21:15

@runninguphills have to agree with the pierced ears Blush

whattodo2019 · 16/10/2019 21:15

Hideous children's names..
Swearing at toddlers
Feeding tea to a baby in a bottle with a Farley's risk crumbled into it
Parents Wearing a onsie at the school gates
Parents who find it amusing to encourage their toys to swear or repeat inappropriate sentences

I could go on....
