What do you still buy that you're convinced no one else still does?

Title may have been a slight exaggeration, but is there anything you continue to purchase ( be it groceries, cleaning products, home bits etc) that is maybe seen as outdated, useless, old fashioned or just generally unliked by the masses , that you continue to buy?

Mine is Fisherman's Friend. I love them but have never found anyone else who still buys them!

Corned beef

MarkinTime · 15/10/2019 19:12

Also buy liquid furniture polish in a bottle, rather than beeswax. Hate spray polish with a vengeance.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 15/10/2019 19:12

Does lipcote still sting when you brush it on.

Rayn · 15/10/2019 19:13

Steak Canadians. Really thin slices of 'meat' that you grilled and put in a sandwich!! Looked like donner meat!!

MarkinTime · 15/10/2019 19:14

@TeaAddict235
Can I ask where you buy your kohlrabi from? I've searched everywhere and can't find it here. I can only get it when I go home 😭

MarkinTime · 15/10/2019 19:15

Yes @DobbyTheHouseElk 😬

TeaAddict235 · 15/10/2019 19:18

@MarkinTime bless you. We buy it in Germany. DH goes bonkers and buys more than we can cook in soups, casseroles etc. I feel like a lobster buying 6 in one go when we get to the tills. I don't get the love unfortunately. But it's nostalgic for him. Where are you?

DobbyTheHouseElk · 15/10/2019 19:20

@MarkinTime excellent. It used to dry my lips out so much I stopped using it. But it was the dogs do da’s for keeping lipstick on.

TeaAddict235 · 15/10/2019 19:21

MilkTrayLimeBarrel · 15/10/2019 19:22

Just remembered Shippam's Salmon and Shrimp paste - it was THE thing to have on small squares of bread at kids' parties when I was young. It was delicious but dread to think what it was made of!!

MarkinTime · 15/10/2019 19:25

I'm in the UK at the moment @TeaAddict235. Will be going home for good next year, so will be able to eat delicious kohlrabi till I pop 😁

MarkinTime · 15/10/2019 19:28

Lidl might have American hard gums on their American week @TeaAddict235
I'm pretty sure I've seen them in there on my home visits. I don't know if they're the proper ones though.

Katinski · 15/10/2019 19:28

I buy kohlrabi in the Birmingham open market. It's great to live in such a multi-cultural area. Goats legs, anyone?Grin

Back to my secret passion, tho..shippams salmon & shrimp paste sandwiches.Glorious!

Nextphonewontbesamsung · 15/10/2019 19:29

Honestly - is washing powder in a cardboard box all that rare? Hopefully more people will convert back when they cotton on to the amount of plastic they are consuming by choosing liquid or liquitabs.

I remove my makeup with soap (Dove) and warm water and a flannel. Works beautifully and mildly exfoliates at the same time.

Stardrops cleaner, flaked rice to make rice pudding, custard powder, Cherry Blossom shoe polish, Bisto (not granules), vegetables with mud on them, sherry, Turkish Delight and ginger wine at Christmas.

MarkinTime · 15/10/2019 19:30

@DobbyTheHouseElk
I swear if a nuclear bomb went off, you would find my lips with unsmudged lippy with a coating of lipcote on them 😂

Katinski · 15/10/2019 19:31

VerbenaGirl · 15/10/2019 19:33

Tinned fruit salad - so bad it’s good! Staple of my childhood (total treat, especially if you got a cherry!)

Mrsjayy · 15/10/2019 19:33

A lot of people i know use washing liquid or capsules for their machines so I do think washing powder is seen as a bit naff and old fashioned

Dowser · 15/10/2019 19:34

Oh god I love green ginger wine as well. It's lovely with loads of ice and a twist of lime. I suppose it is old-fashioned, I hadn't really thought about it before! Definitely a Christmas thing.
