What do you still buy that you're convinced no one else still does?

Title may have been a slight exaggeration, but is there anything you continue to purchase ( be it groceries, cleaning products, home bits etc) that is maybe seen as outdated, useless, old fashioned or just generally unliked by the masses , that you continue to buy?

Mine is Fisherman's Friend. I love them but have never found anyone else who still buys them!

My dad has just asked for a pack of hankies in her bid to reduce waste

TheFaerieQueene · 16/10/2019 18:49

I think I have found my people. Boxed washing powder people.

I have been spreading the love amongst friends - but I think they think I am a bit mad. I’m so pleased to know it isn’t so!

I had forgotten about lipcote. I’m off to get some this weekend. Brilliant stuff!

Notreallyhappy · 16/10/2019 18:50

rededucator. Love a roll & sausage...the butcher ones are best.. frozen type not so good..I'm from Wales but they taste better in Glasgow

jennymanara · 16/10/2019 18:52

Clips to sew new clips on bras when the old ones break off.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 16/10/2019 18:52

Compton's gravy salt!

Only way to make good gravy!!!

(Also Fisherman's Friends)

violettrose28 · 16/10/2019 18:55

I only use bar soap and washing powder in a box. Not because it's eco friendly (but that's a great plus point) but because they work better!

BeyondMyWits · 16/10/2019 19:01

Couldn’t believe the first replies were about boil-in-the-bag fish in sauce. I was looking for some yesterday and couldn’t find any - thought they must have stopped making it.

@SheSaidNoFuckThat Farm Foods and Asda you say? I’ll be down there tomorrow, still got my mash and peas in the freezer 😋

RitaIsMyHero · 16/10/2019 19:05

Tinned sardines - so healthy and 40p a can.

Kippers - like them with brown bread for breakfast.

Marmalade? Hardly anyone seems to eat it now.

RitaIsMyHero · 16/10/2019 19:09

Ooh, I’m off to buy some pears soap.

gavisconismyfriend · 16/10/2019 19:12

@Rockbird - you do indeed win the thread! With or without butter??????

RingPiece · 16/10/2019 19:12

Chicken paste- the cheaper, the better. Tesco value/ Sainsbury's basics, etc. Best on cheap white sliced bread, squashed. I also like a squashed smooth peanut butter sandwich on white bread.

York jelly fruits and orange and lemon slices in the round box. Lovely sugary 'rind'!

Chocolate nibbles. Sort of dusted chewy bits of choc.

Bavarian smoked cheese...the round one...big hunk of smoky buttery cheese. Again, lovely tasty smoky rind! Could eat one in one go. The sliced versions just don't do it for me.

Strawberry fool.

Raspberry pavlova.

Tinned new potatoes.

I miss the cubed Smash. Used to eat it raw. You could get a big tin of it with the metal aliens on it.

Baked beans with sausages.

Hazelnut yoghurt.

Cheshire, Wensleydale, Lancashire etc. Just can't seem to find much of this lovely crumbly cheese these days. My local coop just seems to have an extensive range of cheddar.

RingPiece · 16/10/2019 19:15

Oh and tinned chicken in white sauce. Best with lots of salt.

user1494615613 · 16/10/2019 19:15

Walnut whips used to be lovely, now they are horrid.

mathanxiety · 16/10/2019 19:15

Washing soda (known as soda crystals in the UK).

It's getting harder and harder to find. So hard that I have researched how to make myself it from sodium bicarbonate.

mathanxiety · 16/10/2019 19:16

And I can't find the blue Pears soap that smelled divine.

nettie434 · 16/10/2019 19:16

I like bar soap too - no parabens. I do use eco handwash for washing hands in the kitchen and after going to the loo *Blahblahblah99 so the bar soap ought to stay fairly germ free. I think flannels and hankies might be about to re emerge as eco options. I always used to use dishwasher powder. I’m a bit embarrassed that I’ve fallen so badly for the 3 in 1 tablet marketing.

WaxOnFeckOff · 16/10/2019 19:16

We always use bar soap and DH uses proper hankies (saves a fortune in kitchen roll which is what he was using). Square sausage isn't that rare, it's everywhere and I think our canteen goes through a ton every morning.

Tinned Corned Beef
Salmon paste
Broth mixture
Pigs trotters
Also use box powder but has to be unscented

I also still have a proper land line telephone which is actually plugged into the telephone socket :o

Rockbird · 16/10/2019 19:17

@gavisconismyfriend absolutely with! And lots of it 😋

SallyCinnamon3009 · 16/10/2019 19:23

Potted beef mmmmm

NaturalBornWoman · 16/10/2019 19:25

I use bar soap and box washing powder, tinned sardines are great for lunch and good for you, we like liver, suet dumplings, home made rice pudding and queen of puddings and I make a mean baked Alaska (reminds me of my Mum). I grow my own kohlrabi.

Sorrynotsorry22 · 16/10/2019 19:25

Boil in the back proper takes me back to being ill and my mum always gave me this.

Hydrogenbeatsoxygen · 16/10/2019 19:32

Corned beef
Salad cream
Sandwich spread
Marmite
Oxos
Tomato soup

Adultchild · 16/10/2019 19:32

Tumble dryer sheets
Shake n vac (yeah I like the house to smell nice!)
Cream Soda

stealthsquirrelnutkin · 16/10/2019 19:35

Anyone pining for kohlrabi who has a bit of garden or a deepish planter can get a packet of seeds and grow their own next spring. It's easy and saves you having to drive to Birmingham or make a pilgrimage to Germany to stock up.
