What do you still buy that you're convinced no one else still does?

Title may have been a slight exaggeration, but is there anything you continue to purchase ( be it groceries, cleaning products, home bits etc) that is maybe seen as outdated, useless, old fashioned or just generally unliked by the masses , that you continue to buy?

Mine is Fisherman's Friend. I love them but have never found anyone else who still buys them!

I don’t buy packaged foods and I know I’m super abnormal for avoiding lol

bumpkinmutha · 16/10/2019 18:15

Camp coffee. MMMMMmmm delish!

Frouby · 16/10/2019 18:16

Always got suet in, stew and dumplings is a favourite here.

Dried soup mix.

Oxtail and shin beef for the stew.

Lard for savoury pastry. I do half lard and half stork. Don't see many people buying stork either.

And liver. Liver and bacon is lush. With mashed spuds.

I also buy brasso for polishing the ponys show bridles.

Honestly - is washing powder in a cardboard box all that rare? Hopefully more people will convert back when they cotton on to the amount of plastic they are consuming by choosing liquid or liquitabs

I wondered that too, I've only ever used washing powder. I do use dishwasher tablets though, didn't know you could get dishwasher powder so will investigate (one to save up for the next "hwat have you learnt from MN thread"). You can use washing powder to soak tea and coffee mugs, too.

Arran Aromatics is a Scottish company making divine soap. I also like Waitrose lime. Arran isn't in plastic wrapping arran.com/collections/body-care/products/formulas-grapefruit-shea-butter-soap but Waitrose is, sadly.

I've recently re-discovered smash. Best mashed potato ever. (It needs a little salt and a knob of butter.)

ThistleTits · 16/10/2019 18:17

I've been known to buy a vesta curry now and then, I also buy dried peas, lentils and broth mix for soup, knorr ham stock cubes, tinned spuds.

rededucator · 16/10/2019 18:17

SpinneyHill You can't live in Scotland. If I offered a friend/guest a roll and sausage for breakfast and gave the a link sausage they'd be surprised. Both delicious things!

HalfBloodPrincess · 16/10/2019 18:18

I love a bar of pink carbolic soap. I use it for washing and also to clean the sofa and rugs.

rededucator · 16/10/2019 18:19

My cheese and sandwich spread got quite a reaction in the staffroom recently and not just for the smell. Older folk couldn't believe you could still buy it and those under 30 had never heard of it. I also buy salad cream

WitsEnding · 16/10/2019 18:21

I use bar soap, washing powder, washing soda, cif ... nothing much changes here.

@StarlightLady where do you buy stockings? Have been searching the high street and only found holdups (in M&S and Superdrug).

Blahblahblah99 · 16/10/2019 18:21

I love the eco idea of bars of soap but hate the thought of sharing it with other people knowing it has touched their germy hands.

Those who use it, do you keep it just for you or do you use them in your bathrooms for guests to use too?

Appreciate that I am probably being weird.

HeartZone · 16/10/2019 18:22

Impulse body spray 😂

cutebutscary · 16/10/2019 18:24

Original bisto gravy powder .

Timeywimey10 · 16/10/2019 18:25

Visitors to our house are few and far between so it's only us using the bars. But I have a couple of liquid soaps (and mini sizes) that I can put out if we do have guests.

EastCoastDamsel · 16/10/2019 18:26

I still buy Fishermen's Friends. Not for myself (I think they are disgusting) but for DH, who loves them. (We're in our late 30's)

rededucator · 16/10/2019 18:27

How do you make scotch broth if you don't have broth mix? I hadn't realised it could be seen as old fashioned

rededucator · 16/10/2019 18:31

BlahBlahBlah99 As Joey from Friends would point out - It's soap, it's self-cleaning! 🧼

browneyes77 · 16/10/2019 18:33

Occasionally at Xmas I still buy Advocaat. And QC Sherry.

I’d still buy Babycham, but it doesn’t taste the same these days (the Xmas drink I was allowed to have growing up along with Snowballs!)

MrsCasares · 16/10/2019 18:34

I once bought a platform ticket when I was seeing dd off on a train. The ticket collector asked if he could keep it as he’d never seen one.

jennymanara · 16/10/2019 18:41

I miss being able to buy a platform ticket.

Loveislandaddict · 16/10/2019 18:43

Platform tickets! Blast from the past. I’d forgotten about them.
