Good God Extinction Rebellion blocking a funeral hearse.

I know where they are coming from but for the love of God you dont block and/or lie under a funeral hearse. FGS think of the relatives and friends of the deceased and how they are feeling.

Unfuckingreal!

Fair point Autumn Rose.

I’d have shot them given the chance

Fucking hell.

AutumnCrow · 07/10/2019 19:43

Erm, that's not THE White Horse . It looks nothing like it. It isn't it.

Please be wary of Telegraph and Daily Mail headlines on this.

Dyrne · 07/10/2019 19:44

I’ve come across this interesting report which is a well researched article suggesting how the government can get back on track to get down to net zero emissions by 2050. Now imagine everyone having to do that in just 5 years!

www.green-alliance.org.uk/resources/acting_on_net_zero_now.pdf

I’m not familiar with this group, but poking around that website they seem to be a realistic, evidence based pressure group collaborating with a wide range of industries, NGOs and government.

Now compare that to Extinction Rebellion’s “Raaah do SOMETHING!!!”

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 07/10/2019 19:44

I wonder how much water was needed to clean up the Treasury stunt (and how much muck the old fire engine - in the ULEZ zone surely - spewed out).

Their nice little camp at Marble Arch opened up a shanty town too. We didn’t have rows of tents there before - and now we do (inhabited professional beggars) because tents were left and the police play cat man and mouse moving people on.

Protest, yes but bloody well do something useful. Performance yoga ain’t it.

I have a hospital appt this week and fully expecting horrible news. God help anyone in downward dog blocking my path on the bridge - they will get a boot up the backside...

Changestartsnow · 07/10/2019 19:45

I’d have shot them given the chance

Sociopathic.

AutumnRose1 · 07/10/2019 19:46

Yes Terry, we are familiar with the barrier. And as far as we know, developments are ongoing and currently expected to cope, with a long period of forward planning reviewed constantly.

The point I'm making is that ER are just causing problems and offering no solutions. They really could take coffee in flasks! But I'm sure the local fast food outlets are doing well this week, so lucky them.

AlwaysCheddar · 07/10/2019 19:48

They are a bunch of idiots. Go to China and make changes there .... yeah ok...

AutumnRose1 · 07/10/2019 19:48

"I wonder how much water was needed to clean up the Treasury stunt (and how much muck the old fire engine - in the ULEZ zone surely - spewed out)"

The BBC said the protestors used 1800 litres of water for the stunt but I don't know how much water was estimated to clear it up.

I hope they don't cause issues at your appointment. I'm really hoping they will show a bit of humanity...

Dyrne · 07/10/2019 19:50

In fairness HelenaDove the CEO of Thames Water literally got the sack for his complete and utter failure to sort things out!

HelenaDove · 07/10/2019 19:52

Oh did he? I didnt realize that.

@AutumnCrow you do know there are quite a few white horses in the UK? That was the Alton Barnes one, but there are several others in Wiltshire alone.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 07/10/2019 19:53

I have a short temper and the apppibtment was cancelled and then rescheduled. Was pushed forward again after trip to A&E.

If you hear of a yogi protestor actually demonstrating tantric flying or levitation this Friday...

hazeyjane · 07/10/2019 19:56

The hearse was a stunt

The horse had some hand tied rags laid on to it

Funny, there was no outcry when lical 'pranksters' laid black plastic on it to turn it into a zebra....twice!

Good God Extinction Rebellion blocking a funeral hearse.
yellowallpaper · 07/10/2019 19:57

They're idiots who should be at work and not stopping people who do want to get to work. Protest by all means but don't block roads.

AutumnRose1 · 07/10/2019 19:58

Also Terry, re the Millennium Bug, of course I remember the hard work people put in. But I don't remember anyone staging idiotic protests to get people to work on it. Have I forgotten?

There are plenty of credible green groups around. ER don't count as one.

LisaRoundTheMulberryBush · 07/10/2019 20:00

They're idiots who should be at work and not stopping people who do want to get to work.

Not everyone works 9-5 Mon-Fri you know.

Dyrne · 07/10/2019 20:00

HelenaDove Well the official statement was that he “stood down” but if you read between the lines of some of the press statements there’s definitely an element of “the useless fuckwit has gone, we’re going to try to find someone with an ounce of competence” Grin

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 07/10/2019 20:00

It’s just a wheeze for some people. The rest of us have to middle along/around them as they have their street parties and yoga thons.

I’m glad I missed their Marble Arch performance (wondering about the fabric and dye for all their costumes) and their Smithfield Market protest /silence for the dead animals...

God I’m getting old and grumpy - deeds not words, people. Roll up your bloody sleeves and do something positive.

AutumnCrow · 07/10/2019 20:03

Yes, tits, I do know about the various prehistoric & post-prehistoric chalk hillside carvings, and the modern era reproduction chalk carvings, and Daily Mail headlines designed to elicit certain responses from its readership.

So all good there then.

Dyrne · 07/10/2019 20:05

hazeyjane in fairness that zebra plastic was placed in stripes across the horse rather than extinction rebellion tramping all over it wrecking the chalk. It’s not the impact of the fabric, it’s the fact that they walked on the chalk to place it. They’d have been better off putting some ties onto it and stretching it out over the horse but only staking in the grass, that would have caused less damage.

TitsInAbsentia · 07/10/2019 20:05

Ah, it's just your comment said:
"Erm, that's not THE White Horse . It looks nothing like it. It isn't it."

Which I thought was a little odd...

frogsoup · 07/10/2019 20:06

"idiots who should be at work"

My ddad is 78, I think he's done working thanks. He does on the other hand want to do his bit to make a liveable world for his grandkids.

I am not on board with all of xr tactics. But this thread makes it plain why they are doing it - public and political complacency and denial in the face of extreme emergency. Unfortunately, I fear what will make people wake up is a major natural disaster on their doorstep. Minor delays getting to work for a few days will seem just a little trivial by comparison.

AutumnRose1 · 07/10/2019 20:07

"deeds not words, people. Roll up your bloody sleeves and do something positive."

You're not being grumpy! I've got a neighbour who is taking time off work to protest. She looked at leaving London with her family, and they were well in favour, but seriously, one of her objections was that she'd miss the sheer volume of shops and takeaways in London.

Soola · 07/10/2019 20:08

It’s like something from Brass Eye! 😂

Utter morons the lot of ‘em.
