SPOILER ALERT

ET: The bathroom scene, where ET and Elliot are on the floor and Elliot gets taken away, with ET screaming for him to come back 😢😢 And of course when ET is found all grey and dying in the water, then when he temporarily dies and obviously the ending 😭

Forest Gump: When nobody lets young Forest sit down on the bus and then he sees Jenny for the first time 😥 When Jenny dies "Every night we read a book and he's so smart Jenny. You'd be so proud of him" 😭😭😭

Atonement: The ending, when Bryony explains the reality 😢

Theory of Everything: The croquet scene. There's no dialogue, but it's heart breaking. When Stephen has had his operation and can no longer talk. The look they give one another 💔 Also when Jane breaks up with Stephen "I have loved you. I did my best" and he just looks broken and they cry together 😢

The Reader: When Michael sees Hannah in court and realises she's actually illiterate after she refuses to give a sample of her hand writing and then her sentence. When Hannah hears Michael's voice on the recorder and of course the ending 😭😭😭

I have so many more, including Disney and Pixar Blush but I'd be here all day!

Over to you...

I cry at everything, but two I haven't seen mentioned that get me sobbing are P.s I love you and Dear John.
Lion king I have to fast forward when Mufasa dies or I'm a wreck for a good half hour.

BellatrixLeStrangest · 04/10/2019 21:06

Dumbo, my ex bought it for me on DVD nearly 13 years ago. It's still in the cellophane. I watched it when I was younger and I just cannot cope with it at all. In fact I get that upset that even now I can't look at a real elephant without crying. Especially when they come on TV. Think I'm scarred

*Massive spoiler about Rocketman
*
The end when he finally gets his hug, but it's his inner child that gives it to him. I properly ugly cried at it and even now I cannot talk about it without bursting into tears. I went through a lot of shit as a kid and I relate to quite a few of his experiences which is why I think it hits me so hard.

DannyWallace · 04/10/2019 21:09

Ooh someone has just mentioned call the midwife (I've just binged it!) so yeah a few of those

-Barbara!

-Baby Susan. The woman that plays her mother just makes me cry. She just seems to have a wonderful mix of fiercely proud, loving, terrified and heartbroken

MuseumOfIdiots · 04/10/2019 21:17

Oh god, yes "The Twelve Days of Christine" from series 2 of "Inside Number 9".

"Mummy's going now..."

Gets me every time.

rockingthelook · 04/10/2019 21:22

Grace's maori funeral in One Were Warriors, heartbreaking
The end of Benjamin Button, how I sobbed, just the thought of it gets to me every time
Goodbye Mr Chips, all of it, but when asked he has had any children he says lots, all boys, sob, sob
Judy Garland singing Have yourself a Merry Little Christmas in Easter Parade
Carousel the musical

FormerlyFrikadela01 · 04/10/2019 21:27

So many here. Call the midwife gets me nearly every episode if I'm that way out.

Queen of sheba, when she cant wake nana up and screams for Jim.

In the name of the father gets me twice. Once when Giuseppe dies and they all put the burning paper out of the windows and then when they got off in the end and he says hes a free man and is going out the front door.

Aurorie11 · 04/10/2019 21:30

Ditto many of these

Blackadder goes forth, brilliant and moving
It’s a Wonderful Life, Zu Zu’s petals - sob
Goodbye Mr Chips, scene @rockingthelook mentions

I will add Paddington 2 when Aunt Lucy arrives I sobbed at the cinema

DamonSalvatoresDinner · 04/10/2019 21:33

Ally McBeal when Billy died.

Scrubs when you realise Dr Cox's brother in law (Brandon Fraser) is actually Dead.

ER when Carter is reading out Dr Mark Greene's letter.

I can't watch any of those (and the following episodes) without breaking down sobbing.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 04/10/2019 21:35

Schindlers List, where he gets ready to leave the camp and breaks down: "This pin. Two people. This is gold. He would have given me two for it, at least one. One more person. A person, Stern. For this*

The end of It's a Wonderful Life: "To my brother George Bailey - the richest man in town"

Hoolihan · 04/10/2019 21:36

Oh god, Paddington 2, I couldn't breathe. My kids were mortified 🤣

Jenniferturkington · 04/10/2019 21:41

My Girl: ‘where are his glasses? He can’t see without his glasses’
My dc watched it for the first time recently and twelve year old ds was in bits.

BikeRunSki · 04/10/2019 21:42

Brassed Off, when they kidnap Pete Postlethwaite to go to the Albert Hall and then win. And then he turns down the trophy. Whilst all the time coughing up black, sooty phlegm.

doublebarrellednurse · 04/10/2019 21:43

@Jenniferturkington that killed me

jay55 · 04/10/2019 21:43

Glee in The quarterback when Lea Michele's Rachel does her speech and sings Make you feel my love.

The Outsiders where Johnny is in hospital, gets me every time.

FrowningFlamingo · 04/10/2019 21:43

Inside No 9, the Christmas episode starring Sheridan Smith. My god

I cried so much I think my husband thought I was broken.

MyHeartIsBrokeButIHaveSomeGlue · 04/10/2019 21:47

I'm a definite cryer, so yes to so many of these! But also - are you me @FrowningFlamingo?! I came in here to post the same thing!

Ginger1982 · 04/10/2019 21:47

The end of United 93. Even though i obviously knew what was going to happen, I was still willing the passengers to break down that cockpit door. 😢

rockingthelook · 04/10/2019 21:47

Forgotten the Ally McBeal episode when Billy died :( , used to watch this all the time....thats' the weekend viewing sorted thank you !

Thirtyrock39 · 04/10/2019 21:48

To add to the many already mentioned :-
Billy Elliot
Ghost
Good will hunting

Although most recently the thing on tv that made me sob was Amy's goodbye speech to Curtis in love island !!

PrincessScarlett · 04/10/2019 21:48

Oh and DIY SOS (despite not liking Nick Knowles). Not so much lately but a couple of years back every single one was absolutely heart breaking.

Hoolihan · 04/10/2019 21:49

Glad others feel the same about the Inside No 9 episode, it's one of the best things I've seen on TV ever I think. So unexpected, so well written and performed, utterly heartbreaking.

Thirtyrock39 · 04/10/2019 21:50

The snowman is pretty heartbreaking - always put me on a massive downer as a kid at Christmas

KTCluck · 04/10/2019 21:50

I’m so pleased I’m not the only person who sobs at A Little Princess verytiredandstressed. Saw it at the cinema and it was the first film I ever cried at. Just need to picture her desperately trying to get her dad to remember her and I well up.

Also, the film Jack with Robin Williams in. Sobbed my little heart out at the end when he’s graduating high school Sad

Definitely The Notebook and Steel Magnolias. Dumbo, Jessie’s song in Toy Story 2, and Ariel leaving her Dad in The Little Mermaid are pretty heartbreaking

Also, not a film, but that Jesy Nelson documentary made me properly ugly cry the other day. People can be vile, and it makes me so scared for my DD growing up.

Simonfromharlow · 04/10/2019 22:02

Wow this thread is making me ugly cry!!

The scene with Emma Thompson in love actually where she puts on the brave face. Even more poignant now I've been in that position.

Simonsaysitschristmas · 04/10/2019 22:10

I don’t think anyone has mentioned My Sisters Keeper yet. I remember when I watched it in the cinema and watching everyone leave the screen at the end just sobbing.
