SPOILER ALERT

ET: The bathroom scene, where ET and Elliot are on the floor and Elliot gets taken away, with ET screaming for him to come back 😢😢 And of course when ET is found all grey and dying in the water, then when he temporarily dies and obviously the ending 😭

Forest Gump: When nobody lets young Forest sit down on the bus and then he sees Jenny for the first time 😥 When Jenny dies "Every night we read a book and he's so smart Jenny. You'd be so proud of him" 😭😭😭

Atonement: The ending, when Bryony explains the reality 😢

Theory of Everything: The croquet scene. There's no dialogue, but it's heart breaking. When Stephen has had his operation and can no longer talk. The look they give one another 💔 Also when Jane breaks up with Stephen "I have loved you. I did my best" and he just looks broken and they cry together 😢

The Reader: When Michael sees Hannah in court and realises she's actually illiterate after she refuses to give a sample of her hand writing and then her sentence. When Hannah hears Michael's voice on the recorder and of course the ending 😭😭😭

I have so many more, including Disney and Pixar Blush but I'd be here all day!

Over to you...

The Color Purple Sad

DinoSn0re · 04/10/2019 15:56

When Sybil dies in Downton Abbey. I find it really hard to watch.

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 04/10/2019 15:56

Who will love my children?
All of it obviously, but particularly the scene where having adopted one of the boys, a couple go back for his sick brother. I’m welling up just thinking about it. Sad

JeSuisPrest · 04/10/2019 15:57

Terms of Endearment - Shirley Maclaine's character "It's past ten. My daughter is in pain. I don't understand why she has to have this pain. All she has to do is hold out until ten, and IT'S PAST TEN! My daughter is in pain, can't you understand that! GIVE MY DAUGHTER THE SHOT!"

Steel Magnolias - Sally Field explaining the moment when Shelby dies to her friends "I just sat there. I just held Shelby's hand. There was no noise, no tremble, just peace. Oh god. I realize as a woman how lucky I am. I was there when that wonderful creature drifted into my life and I was there when she drifted out. It was the most precious moment of my life."

Both women's portrayal of losing adult children is absolutely heartbreaking.

ImpeachTrump · 04/10/2019 15:57

The Champ - when TJ is sobbing and begging his dad to wake up but he's dead Sad

AzraiL · 04/10/2019 15:57

Somuchroom I was about to post the same thing! That scene always kills me.

Lucked · 04/10/2019 15:58

Terms of endearment when she is in hospital and saying goodbye to her children and tells them she knows they love her no matter what their behaviour has been

DieCryHate · 04/10/2019 15:59

Near the end of American Beauty when he's smiling at the old photographs of his family before he gets shot, then they show his face and it has this beautiful smile which says so, so much in one second. So powerful.

PillarOfSalt · 04/10/2019 16:01

Almost all of the final episode of a Fleabag. Particularly the final scene though. Fucking heartbreaking.

JaneJeffer · 04/10/2019 16:02

When Sybil dies in Downton Abbey. I find it really hard to watch.
It was awful and it was Tom who made me cry because he couldn't help her in any way Sad I could cry just thinking about it now.

Contraceptionismyfriend · 04/10/2019 16:03

Green Mile- When John says he's ready to die because he's so tired of everyone being ugly 😭😭

ElizaPancakes · 04/10/2019 16:03

Oh yes, Steel Magnolias. Heartbreaking.

The ending of Benjamin Button - while I didn’t like the film as a whole, I was watching while holding my newborn and while I held it together then, just thinking about it makes me cry.

Forrest Gump - the whole section when he’s a child makes me sob.

Loads and loads in ER which I’m currently re-watching on All 4.

Loopylou6 · 04/10/2019 16:04

Ghost. The penny scene, and when he finally goes into the light

Hidingtonothing · 04/10/2019 16:04

The Royle Family Queen of Sheba episode as mentioned and also Two Pints of Lager when Gaz has had his accident and pulls his oxygen mask off to tell Donna 'it's always been you'. No idea why but it makes me sob every time Blush Slightly left field entry there I realise Grin

RuffleCrow · 04/10/2019 16:04

The one where the buzzfeed content writer has to do her own research in order to write a list. Wink

Truly, truly tragic

ILoveYou3000 · 04/10/2019 16:04

@ImpeachTrump I was coming to post the exact same thing. That scene makes me ugly cry.

MontanaSky · 04/10/2019 16:04

The Color Purple - many scenes but especially when the sisters are separated and when she is reunited with her children at the end
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part II when Harry's parents appear and he asks them if dying is painful
Titanic - the mother telling her children a story and the couple laying on their bed together

Trewser · 04/10/2019 16:05

RuffleCrow

sob

Grin

Season 2 in 13 reasons, Clay's face when the song comes on towards the end. I tear up whenever I hear that song.

Usernamealreadyexists · 04/10/2019 16:06

Manchester by the Sea by when the couple meet a few years after their child died and their split. You can find the clip on YouTube. Devastatingly heartbreaking. Haven’t seen anything that got me as much as this. If you’ve suffered the loss of a child, this scene will make sense.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 04/10/2019 16:07

Ghost. When Patrick Swayze goes up to heaven.
Friends. When Rachel gets off the plane.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 04/10/2019 16:08

@OlderThenYoungernow yes! I cry every time

Looobyloo · 04/10/2019 16:10

Marley and me when he's at the vets having the dog PTS. I can't even watch it.
The Mask, when Cher finds him dead in bed.
The Elephant man, all of it is really sad but when he goes to sleep for the last time laying down.

bonbonours · 04/10/2019 16:11

Loads but one not mentioned yet, the funeral poem in four weddings when his voice cracks as he says 'I was wrong'

MissisBee · 04/10/2019 16:11

When Sybil dies in Downton Abbey. I find it really hard to watch.

This was harrowing, but also one of the best death scenes I've ever watched. Problem is, I couldn't get it out if my head when I was in hospital with pre-eclampsia myself. Thank goodness for modern medicine!
