Have you put your heating on yet?

I think this is the first year that I've managed not to have the heating on during the summer at some point. I live in the north west and June is often pretty chilly at times. This last week has been pretty cold but I've been determined to stick it out as is only cold when we first get up and if I'm home alone during the day. I just put my dressing gown and socks on and I'm fine. I live with my 3 dc so no one to argue with over the heating which is great but I'm conscious of the financial and environmental impact of central heating and trying to cut down. Won reduced my payments from £150 a month to £139 and I don't want it to increase again.

Is yours on yet? If so, where abouts in the UK do you live?

It's not cold enough in SE yet fir heating but I've lit the log burner this week

AfterSchoolWorry · 01/10/2019 12:07

No. I'm still using aircon in the car and a fan at home! Menopause! 😝

Heyboyo · 01/10/2019 12:08

I’m in the NE and my heating hasn’t came on. It’s set to come in when it gets below 21. It’s a new build so very well insulated

GooseFeather · 01/10/2019 12:11

Hell, no! DH and I are engaged in a battle, where I go round opening windows and he follows me round closing them. I am peri-menopausal and perma-hot, whereas he is recovering from surgery so can't be very active, while I run round doing everything. My view is that he could put another layer on, whereas if I take a layer off, I will be in my underwear. We also have a heavily insulated house and an Aga. It really isn't cold.

Dowser · 01/10/2019 12:16

I put mine on whenever I need it
I’ve had it on loads over the summer
We came home from the caravan late Sunday night ( yes even had ch on there)
And the warmest room was 16
Dread to think what the others were
N e coast grey, wet, miserable and 9 degrees

PotteringAlong · 01/10/2019 12:17

North east here and not had it on yet. Today is the first day that’s it’s been nippy and the house is starting to feel cold so I don’t think it will be long.

Dowser · 01/10/2019 12:18

My bungalow Is only 45 years old but draughty

RuthW · 01/10/2019 12:18

No far too early. I haven't even used my blanket yet. Maybe another 3-4 weeks.

pumpkinpie01 · 01/10/2019 12:18

@DtPeabodysLoosePants thanks for the flowers. I suppose the bonus is empty rooms cant get messy by themselves !

HairyFloppins · 01/10/2019 12:23

It's never been off it just comes on when it goes under 21.5 which it has done quite a lot in the last couple of weeks.

I put it on just now as me and dd felt a bit chilly.

LoonyLunaLoo · 01/10/2019 12:24

Yes, it’s on now as I’m working from home. We had it on for an hour or so on Sunday and yesterday too. I hate being cold! I’m also in the North West.

Floralnomad · 01/10/2019 12:29

Ours is on 24/7 all year with the thermostat set on 19 and I just turn it up if I’m cold and it hasn’t kicked in , yesterday was the first time I needed to turn it up to get it to actually come on since about May which is pretty good for us . I don’t like being cold but equally I don’t like wearing loads of clothes so I’d rather have the heating on and sit in a t shirt than be wrapped up in layers whilst the radiators are still cold . Our house is about 25 yo , very well insulated and retains heat nicely .

InsertFunnyUsername · 01/10/2019 12:36

For the last week or so I have had it on for an hour in the mornings, haven't needed to for the evenings yet. But I hate waking up to the cold.

zebrarobot · 01/10/2019 12:36

Mine is on for 1 hr in the morning between 6-7, for 30 mins at lunch time 12pm (me and toddler home during the day) , then on for an hour at kids bedtime between 7-8.

I find it best to just have it on a timer and stick a jumper if im cold any other time.

tisonlymeagain · 01/10/2019 12:42

Nope - haven't had it on since the beginning of April, imagine it will be another few weeks. Still sleeping with the window wide open so it would be a bit silly to put the heating on to warm up the house in the morning.

bengalcat · 01/10/2019 12:43

No - in London . Still walking around outside to work etc without a coat .

spongeandcustard · 01/10/2019 12:44

Put mine on for two hours last night, it was so dank and miserable. My DS9 is always cold, and he asked me to 'put the boiler on' lol
Im in the West Midlands

LittleGinBigGin · 01/10/2019 12:47

I lit the fire last night, as we have a draft and I can’t find out where it’s coming from.

Tonight is supposed to be going down to 4-6 degrees so will see how cold it is and decide if I want it on or not.

Other than that only had it on to test that it works (it does) as we have moved.

SilverySurfer · 01/10/2019 12:48

Hasn't been on yet but looking at the BBC weather website, it's going down to 13 degrees tomorrow (I'm in Bucks) ans 2 degrees overnight. Think it may also be time for the electric overblanket tonight.

BeanBag7 · 01/10/2019 12:50

DD always kicks her duvet off at night. Even if I go back and tuck her in, it's off again 5 mins later! So we have put the heating on in her room so she doesnt get cold in the mornings.

squashyhat · 01/10/2019 12:57

No. SE England and warm.

lubeybooby · 01/10/2019 12:59

Yes... thermostat controls ours so it doesn't click on unless it goes below 18c indoors. It's been coming on automatically for at least a month now

HotChocolateLover · 01/10/2019 13:00

I wish...the boiler’s broken 🤦‍♀️ However, got the plumber coming tomorrow, yippee!! No more traipsing over to my mum’s for a shower. However, we haven’t really missed it tbh.

hopeishere · 01/10/2019 13:01

Yes. I put it on for an hour last night as the house felt chilly. Same on Saturday. But I've not set it to 'auto' yet where it comes on at set times. Hoping to hold out a bit longer!!

Oldraver · 01/10/2019 13:03

I've heard the heating come on a few times around 3.30am...

I've asked OH, to put this heating on the dry the towels
