Have you put your heating on yet?

I think this is the first year that I've managed not to have the heating on during the summer at some point. I live in the north west and June is often pretty chilly at times. This last week has been pretty cold but I've been determined to stick it out as is only cold when we first get up and if I'm home alone during the day. I just put my dressing gown and socks on and I'm fine. I live with my 3 dc so no one to argue with over the heating which is great but I'm conscious of the financial and environmental impact of central heating and trying to cut down. Won reduced my payments from £150 a month to £139 and I don't want it to increase again.

Is yours on yet? If so, where abouts in the UK do you live?

NW England here. Mine hasn't been on since maybe late April, but I'm feeling a bit chilly for the first time today, so it won't be long until it's on, I think. I'd rather be too cold than too hot though. I never have it on at night or set it to come on before I'm up and about. Can't bear waking up too hot!

InvisibleWomenMustBeRead · 01/10/2019 13:11

Me too @Newearringsplease

Tiredmum100 · 01/10/2019 13:14

South west wales. Put mine on low last night as everything just felt a.bit damp with the rain. We will have it on all winter now but on very low, apparently it's more economical that way? We just turn it up in the evenings through the winter months.

Jocasta2018 · 01/10/2019 13:18

Set on thermostat at 16c so not yet. In the SE so night time temperature not much below double figures. Although we had a couple of chilly nights about 3 weeks ago so it came on at the 5.30am timer but went off again by 8am.
Everything's still flowering outside & got bumblebees flying around. Unreal.

ListenLinda · 01/10/2019 20:44

Yep. I have a nice thick dressing down, but can’t really ask a toddler and a baby to wear extra layers 😂 it’s taken the edge off. It’s set to get down to 4 degrees here overnight and hate getting up to do night feeds in the cold.

Proseccoagain · 01/10/2019 22:10

Just for a couple of hours in the mornings. Haven't needed it any other time yet.

AnneElliott · 01/10/2019 22:13

No not yet (South East). I do t allow it on until the clocks go back. DS thinks I'm very mean to suggest putting on trousers and a jumper rather than walking around in shorts with the heating on Hmm

CakeNinja · 01/10/2019 22:16

Mine has clicked on and off sporadically over the last month or so.
We don’t switch it ‘off’, it’s just set to come on when I deem it cold enough.
Saying that, I’ve still had doors and windows open recently when it hasn’t been absolutely bucketing it down!!

NorthBich · 01/10/2019 22:19

Mine has been on for weeks! If it goes below 24° it comes on straight away. There is just no way I'm being cold and uncomfortable in my own home.

GiantKitten · 01/10/2019 22:28

We’re in NW too (E Lancs).

Thermostat is set to 16 overnight, & heating has come on in the early morning a few times recently.

Daytime setting is 18.5; that has also kicked in very occasionally, but this evening I deliberately turned it up for a bit Blush

bornonasunday · 01/10/2019 22:29

Up in soggy Wales! House feels chilly now so have been putting it on in evenings for an hour or two. Also to help dry washing, it’s that silly time of year where washing struggles to dry outside so ends up finishing off on radiators. Have electric blanket on just before bed ( to take the “edge” off .... whatever that means!) but also share the bed with large long-haired German Shepherd Dog who likes to “puppy pile” with me - meaning she loves contact and will wedge against you, or lie on you given half a chance😱 I love a cold room/ warm bed as grew up in old house with no upstairs heat at all!!

user1493494961 · 01/10/2019 22:32

I'm in the North West, no heating as yet and bedroom windows always open a fraction.

PancakeAndKeith · 01/10/2019 22:41

East Anglia here.
No where near putting it on. Still have the windows open.
I’m interested at the variety of different temperatures people have their heating set to. 16° seems too cold but 24° seems way too hot.

Hecateh · 01/10/2019 23:01

An hour on 3 evenings so far. Only downstairs. I like my bedroom about 14 degrees so still too warm up there.

Oh, and 1 hour ufh in ensuite one morning

MooseBeTimeForSummer · 01/10/2019 23:24

Yes. But to be fair, I’m in Canada. We’ve had some snow already and it was -3 overnight.

BarbedBloom · 02/10/2019 00:57

Only had it on for an hour the other day to finish off the bedding. Have had windows open all day today and am too warm tonight under the duvet. We are in South Wales, lots of rain but doesn't feel cold yet

managedmis · 02/10/2019 01:01

God I love these threads

Yup, it went on today. 13 outside and lashing it down, it was about time. Stew and dumpling weather ☔

RavenLG · 02/10/2019 01:05

No but it’s weirdly humid here (midlands) this afternoon was chucking it down but mild. Thermostat is still off but will probably turn back to 18 soon. The lowest the house got today was 17.5 so not needed just yet.

OkPedro · 02/10/2019 01:13

I used to worry when my children kicked their blankets/duvets off at night but surely they do that because they are too warm? I do the same..
I would never have the heating on during the night. Latest it goes off is 10pm. I time it to come on at 6am. It was a little chilly this morning though..

DtPeabodysLoosePants · 02/10/2019 07:18

It's 2 degrees here this morning and the house is ok. Dressing gowns and slippers on and it doesn't feel cold at all. It's nice to see some blue sky after the torrential rain of the last few days.

ConFusion360 · 02/10/2019 07:28

I suggested to DH we put it on. He would rather wait until the end of the month. The problem is that if our house cools down, it takes weeks to warm through properly.

Enb76 · 02/10/2019 07:34

East Anglia, still have all the windows open.

CremeEggThief · 02/10/2019 07:36

Yep, yesterday. This is the earliest I've put it on for the winter in a few years. It was only 9° here in the daytime in County Durham.

Titsywoo · 02/10/2019 07:45

Not yet. In SE and it's 6 degrees outside this morning but house is still at 19 degrees which is a fine temp. If it dips below 18 the heating will go on but even having the odd window or door open for much of the day it's not getting that low.

PotteringAlong · 02/10/2019 07:45

Funnily enough, having said no yesterday ours clicked on overnight for the first time and it’s cold this morning. Also County Durham!
