Have you put your heating on yet?

I think this is the first year that I've managed not to have the heating on during the summer at some point. I live in the north west and June is often pretty chilly at times. This last week has been pretty cold but I've been determined to stick it out as is only cold when we first get up and if I'm home alone during the day. I just put my dressing gown and socks on and I'm fine. I live with my 3 dc so no one to argue with over the heating which is great but I'm conscious of the financial and environmental impact of central heating and trying to cut down. Won reduced my payments from £150 a month to £139 and I don't want it to increase again.

Is yours on yet? If so, where abouts in the UK do you live?

Mine’s on again, it’s 3 degrees outside.

The thermostat doesn’t recognise the date on the calendar, if it drops below 18 during the timer windows it’s on!

OMGshefoundmeout · 02/10/2019 07:49

SE here. It’s set to 18 on the thermostats and hasn’t come on yet. However the forecast is cooler tonight so it might well come on later and I am also looking forward to lighting the first log fire of the season.

20viona · 02/10/2019 07:50

Yes! Its been on a bit this week. Woke up today and it was only 14 degrees in our room according to the gro egg and with a 12 week old baby better get that heating cranked up!
We have solar panels so it makes a big difference to our bills. We went from £180 a month to £42!

Titsywoo · 02/10/2019 07:54

I do have my heating set to 13 during the night so it won't come on though. You sleep better in cool temps than warm ones from what I've read.

allabouteve1 · 02/10/2019 08:02

Not yet. Last night was the first night I've not slept with the window open since May. I think a couple more weeks before we put it on. I like to jumper up first.

Roselilly36 · 02/10/2019 08:05

Not yet, still have the bedroom windows open all night.

ExpletiveDelighted · 02/10/2019 08:05

Ours is set at 12° overnight then 18° from 7-8.30am (12 again during they day when we're all out). It came on at 7 today.

SalamanderOnHoliday · 02/10/2019 08:09

Woodburner on last night , electric blanket and warm duvet. It’s v damp here though....north west.

DtPeabodysLoosePants · 02/10/2019 09:14

I'm amazed at how many people have their heating on at night. I'd hate that and surely there's not much point if you're under a duvet? Mine, when on, is timed to come on half an hour before we get up and goes off just before we leave. In the afternoon it comes on half an hour before we get back from school and goes off at 8pm as we are all in bed by then. I'd hate the heating on overnight as would be too hot. I like to be snug under the covers but have the window open for fresh air.

Put mine on this morning.
Was 7 degrees. West Yorkshire

DoYouTakeSelfEsteem · 02/10/2019 16:50

It's been on most days recently. Even if it's warm during the day the temperature really drops early morning/evening.

I refuse to be cold and cannot sit indoors in layers upon layers of clothing, even if I could DD couldn't play whilst bundled up and she feels the cold too.

RingtheBells · 02/10/2019 17:04

Mines on, set at 20c now since Monday when we got back from a break. We did have it on for a couple of days a few weeks ago also.

RingtheBells · 02/10/2019 17:05

Rarely have it on at night, only if it was really really cold as I get too hot in bed

BlackeyedGruesome · 02/10/2019 17:06

Still in shorts and t shirts here. W mids. I think I will be finding socks and a cardi to add to that tonight.

ShabbyNat · 02/10/2019 17:13

Heating gone on today, I know its a bit chilly when my DD1 sits there in the evening with her hoodie on with the hood up<img loading="lazy" class="inline-flex mumsnet-emoji" alt="Grin" src="https://www.mumsnet.com/build/assets/grin-D7Eg_B6y.png"><img loading="lazy" class="inline-flex mumsnet-emoji" alt="Grin" src="https://www.mumsnet.com/build/assets/grin-D7Eg_B6y.png"><img loading="lazy" class="inline-flex mumsnet-emoji" alt="Grin" src="https://www.mumsnet.com/build/assets/grin-D7Eg_B6y.png"> & its chillier today too here in the midlands

GenuineKlatchianPottery · 02/10/2019 17:45

Scotland here and I still have all the windows open constantly. I have put the heavier duvets on the beds though. It’s 13 degrees here at the moment.

IHaveBrilloHair · 02/10/2019 17:47

No, no I haven't.
I let the calendar dictate my heating use, rather than the temperature.

MaisyMary77 · 02/10/2019 17:48

I popped mine on this morning-just to make sure it was working. It isn’t. Now waiting for an engineer to come out and hopefully fix it.

Mintjulia · 02/10/2019 17:56

In Hampshire. Ours isn’t on yet but I lit a fire last night because it felt so damp.
Today is sunny & better
I usually hold out another week or so. Smile

Ilikewinter · 02/10/2019 17:56

I had it on for half hour last night to take chill out, this morning it was 15 degrees at 5am but I was going to work so up and out! Returned home to 14 degrees so on for an hour, back to a cosy 19 degrees now. Never have it on overnight and wont have it on timer/thermostat until its proper proper chilly! We are in the North West.

BishopFrownofStThigh · 02/10/2019 18:01

I put it on occasionally for about 20 mins but I have a brilliant fluffy hottie so tend to use that and it keeps me really warm. It's like having a pet sheep.

BlahBlahBlahh · 02/10/2019 18:02

Yep! I had to put it on this morning it was freezing

CrowleysBentley · 02/10/2019 18:42

We don't have proper central heating, just rubbish electric heaters on the wall in each room (new build flat, housing association) which cost an absolute fortune to run and don't ever actually heat up the place properly.

I bought some oil filled radiators to use instead, which do a much better job, and haven't put them on yet. I think I might get them out and make sure that they all still work tomorrow in case I need to replace any of them, and I have unpacked the thick blankets and washed them at the weekend. I hate being too hot at night so use a 4.5 tog summer duvet with a couple of those really thick fleece fluffy blankets to layer over the top until it gets really cold in Jan/Feb and then I will use a 10 tog duvet. DD(19) and DS(20) have their warm duvets out much earlier, and 15 and 13 tog duvets, plus DD is always cold and has thick blanket over her duvet for about half the year and wears fleece onesie and pyjamas at every opportunity.

Arrowfanatic · 02/10/2019 19:09

Its been fired up for 20 minutes or so a couple of mornings but as a rule no its not on. Its set to come on if the temperature drops below 14 degrees and it hasnt yet.

When it will come on its just set for an hour morning & evening, although can be boosted on any time by the touch of a button. Currently I'm a sahm so I'll pop it on during the day if I'm cold, but starting work soon so wont be on at all in the day time. Hoping this fixes my rather high utilities bills.

Thehagonthehill · 02/10/2019 19:18

Ours is set to go on under 18 but only after 6pm.We have a gas fire which we normally use this time of year just to take the edge off but it seems to have broken.
