Have you put your heating on yet?

I think this is the first year that I've managed not to have the heating on during the summer at some point. I live in the north west and June is often pretty chilly at times. This last week has been pretty cold but I've been determined to stick it out as is only cold when we first get up and if I'm home alone during the day. I just put my dressing gown and socks on and I'm fine. I live with my 3 dc so no one to argue with over the heating which is great but I'm conscious of the financial and environmental impact of central heating and trying to cut down. Won reduced my payments from £150 a month to £139 and I don't want it to increase again.

Is yours on yet? If so, where abouts in the UK do you live?

I paid a lot of money for a new boiler a couple of years ago, I am as sure as hell going to use it, been set at 20c all day and is just right.

Mine went on in August.

I never understand the angst on these threads. I think it’s terrible that people have to choose whether to eat or heat in the UK in 2019 and I am sorry for that.

I am fortunate in that I can afford to heat my home. It was -1 here at 7am according to the met office. My heating clicked in as it is meant to do during the hours it is set to come on when the temp falls below 18 degrees.

I don’t want to wear Michelin style layers in my home. The air is cold.

The temperature is the temperature never mind whether it’s October or January.

I Don't know if its been mentioned but anyone struggling with heating bills should see if they are eligible for their suppliers warm home discount scheme. Its £150 paid direct to your meters or supplier to help with the cost of heating over winter.
Each supplier has different qualifiers and they quite often change each year it's also limited in how many people can have it so you need to apply as soon as possible.

Yep, I love heating, it's basically going to be permanently on here till April now. Putting a jumper on does nothing when your hands and nose are cold!

Moondancer73 · 03/10/2019 21:12

@Ginfordinner it was 9 degrees here last night so not overly warm, and as it happens I can't afford to put the heating on yet - or in the winter unless it's very cold as it happens.

Woodstove Fire last night.
central heating I put on for First time since spring, this evening. Still above 18.0 in the hallway, but I was shivering in hoody & thin trousers. I justify this by saying we need to test the boiler is ok b4 it's actually very cold outside (our boiler does have history of not starting up in the autumn).

Could have worn 2 prs trousers, another jumper, neck buff, hat & gloves, instead, I suppose.

Bed beckons...
