I can be up, showered, do hair, dress and leave the house in 30 minutes. Once I even managed to pack a suitcase in that time, too.
Usual shower time around 10 minutes, bit longer if it is a Sunday morning shower as I am more thorough then.

Sportinggirl · 26/09/2019 07:18

I take a good 20 mins if not longer if Iv had a shitty day, shampoo twice, conditioner then hair mask, wash and shave. If she is paying towards the bills then it's none of your business how long she spends in the shower, I actually think it's quite cheeky that you would say anything about her personal care habits. I suppose you follow her around to make sure she turns off every switch after she uses them and make sure she only puts full loads in the washing machine 🙄

Disfordarkchocolate · 26/09/2019 07:19

I agree with those who commented about water pressure. If the pressure is low I can be in their ages just rinsing my long hair and getting very annoyed. Just have a friendly chat, they may have just had a long tiring day and needed to decompress.

megletthesecond · 26/09/2019 07:20

10 minutes sounds fine.

FWIW I'm quicker in a power shower than a slow electric one. But even then I'm not much faster than 10 mins.

Aria2015 · 26/09/2019 07:22

I'm in an out in minutes if I'm literally just showing. Just a head to toe soak and scrub all over. About 10 - 15 mins if I'm washing hair and shaving legs.

Maseandmum · 26/09/2019 07:23

15-20 minutes

Dollygirl2008 · 26/09/2019 07:27

Thanks for all comments - it's quite interesting how everyone is vastly different!!

To those saying that because she's paying rent, it's none of my business - I just don't see how this is the case! This is still my house, she rents a room - you wouldn't put up with other unreasonable habits - would it be acceptable to put the washing machine on twice a day with half loads?! Or too leave every single light one?! No of course not - you wouldn't just think - oh well, she's paying - it's her right. It's all about being "reasonable"

You've all made me see that 20 min daily showers is perhaps not as unreasonable as I deemed it to be, so thanks for that - I of course won't say anything now I know it's fairly common!

I'm sorry but unless you stated in the agreement that there is a maximum shower time, I think you're being completely out of order.

My showers are never less than 20 minutes. I enjoy them and get up earlier so I can spend longer in there.

The fact that you've timed how long she has been in there is weird. Have you been stood outside the door listening? Creepy.

MonChatEstMagnifique · 26/09/2019 07:30

You time your lodgers showers ? 😳 I'm genuinely shocked that you would think of saying something to them about this. It seems quite controlling.

MonChatEstMagnifique · 26/09/2019 07:32

you wouldn't put up with other unreasonable habits

But that's the thing, spending 20 mins in the shower isn't unreasonable. I'm glad that you can see that now

floravus · 26/09/2019 07:32

I take around 5 minutes if not washing hair and about 20 minutes if doing hair. DH on the other hand is not capable of a shower less than 30 minutes long, probably more like 45. It used to annoy me but he now takes baby DS in there with him so now I get 45 mins every morning eating breakfast in bed so I am in no hurry to make him shorten those showers Grin

DwangelaForever · 26/09/2019 07:36

I love the shower, my morning shower is probably about 5 mins as I'm just washing everywhere necessary. My night time shower on days I need to wash my hair is quite an event, I love just standing under the water and taking time to condition my hair and shave etc. A decent shower with good pressure is a real luxury.

CTRL · 26/09/2019 07:37

I take 20/25 mins.

Apolloanddaphne · 26/09/2019 07:37

5 mins max. I can shower, dress, dry my hair, put on my make up and be ready to leave the house in 20 minutes.

I cannot fathom what takes 20 minutes or longer. Even shaving and exfoliating takes me no time at all. A few minutes extra maybe.

Heyboyo · 26/09/2019 07:42

1 minute or 4 minutes if washing my hair

GrumpyMiddleAgedWoman · 26/09/2019 07:47

This thread had explained to me how a friend of mine spends so long in the bloody shower. You used to come and stay and spend 30-40 minutes in our only bathroom as I, pregnant and with a freshly-kicked bladder, hopped from foot to foot on the landing willing her to finish.

Me, I can lock the door and emerge ten minutes later, having stripped, soaped, washed and conditioned hair (lots of it), shaved legs and pits, dried and dressed again.

Stayawayfromitsmouth · 26/09/2019 07:48

I take between 10mins if in a hurry and not washing my hair to over 30mins if doing a full hair condition, exfoliate and shave etc. But I sometimes like just standing under the hot water for a bit.
I would be an ex lodger if you mentioned anything.
Why do we need to save water? Genuine question.
Also my energy reader tells me lights and plugged in electrical only draw an indispensable amount on the meter. The main culprits are fridge, freezer, washer, tumbler, kettle and oven.
You would save more money/energy by limiting those usages.

Greyhound22 · 26/09/2019 07:55

Wow. You're going to be fun to live with.

BillywigSting · 26/09/2019 08:02

About 7 minutes if I'm not washing hair. I don't shave in the shower (I wax). About 12-15 if I wash my elbow length thick wavy hair and 90% of that is coaxing the suds out it.

If I'm in a shower with better water pressure I take much less time but you have to run around to get wet in mine atm.

italianfiat · 26/09/2019 08:05

This is still my house, she rents a room - you wouldn't put up with other unreasonable habits

I hope she moves out. For her sake, not yours.

BillywigSting · 26/09/2019 08:06

Also can't fathom how people with loads of hair can be dried and dressed in under 15 minutes. It takes a solid 15 minutes to dry my hair with a hair dryer before even doing anything else to else to it. Either my hair dryer is crap or I have masses of hair!

TheTempest · 26/09/2019 08:13

10 mins absolute tops here too. Usually more like 5. DH takes about the same but doesn’t have any hair. I also have a lodger who’s loved with us for about 7 years, and I have no idea how long she showers for! Oh and she uses the washing machine whenever she likes, and generally lives her life. Don’t sweat the small stuff!

Tiredtessy · 26/09/2019 08:16

Do all you that have longer showers have water meters? I hope so as that is such a waste. I can body shower in a minute do everything in about 5. Guess some people move very slowly, I watch people at work and wonder how long it must take them to get out if the door 😱

Sportinggirl · 26/09/2019 08:16

My god you would actually be a pain to live with, if she wants to put a half load of darks and a half load of lights on everyday she has every right to do so.. I would suggest that you accept everyone lives differently and if you can't put up with that maybe stop renting out rooms, it's not a prison she's living in.

ExpletiveDelighted · 26/09/2019 08:18

I suppose its only a problem if she uses up all the hot water just before you want a shower, a 5 minute shower in ours uses about 1/4 of the tank so if someone had a 20 minute shower (which none of us does, we're all quick in and out people) then the next person would have to wait about 20 mins for more to heat up.
