5-10 mins

Wash me
Shower and condition hair
Shave legs and under arms

Couldn’t do it in less

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 25/09/2019 22:27

10 minutes of I’m not shaving 15 if I am (but the water still only runs for 10)

TwatCat · 25/09/2019 22:27

I have waist length hair, I shampoo then wash my body in soap after I've put the conditioner on my hair, then rinse the conditioner off. I've timed myself to prove a point to my 14 and 11 yo DS's and I can do all that in two minutes. But usually take about 3-4. My boys have been known to be in there for half and hour which pisses me off to no end, and I have been known to switch the boiler off on occasions when they don't listen to me to get out.

Fuma · 25/09/2019 22:29

What exactly are you going to do about it OP? Evict her? I don't think there's much you can say about acceptable shower time to a grown ass adult who is giving you money.

bee222 · 25/09/2019 22:30

about 10-15 minutes

wash face
shampoo
conditioner
body scrub
shave
shower gel

Fstar · 25/09/2019 22:31

15 to 20 if washing hair,,10 if not

EMacCoffee · 25/09/2019 22:32

About 15 minutes normally, but then I have curly hair that I need to comb out while the conditioner is in it or else it goes all frizzy and horrid. If I'm not washing my hair I'm in and out in 2 minutes.

And to the posters saying showering isn't relaxing, personally I find that it is. Warm water is great!

Galaxygirl93 · 25/09/2019 22:32

Before I had my son I could spend up to half an hour in the shower y'know just thinking about life. Now Ive had my son.... 10 minutes tops!

Dollygirl2008 · 25/09/2019 22:33

Fuma, of course I can say something to her - like you say, it's my house. I can simply say "by the way, would you mind keeping showers a little shorter if you can, or perhaps turn the water off at points that you're not using it"

Doesn't need to be aggressive like you suggest by threatening to evict!

Give or take 5 minutes (depends on a number of things) 7 if shaving

EachandEveryone · 25/09/2019 22:36

It would only bother me if i was waiting to get in or if they were leaving the bathroom in a mess.

thinkfast · 25/09/2019 22:36

Depends on how powerful the shower is. My shower takes 10 mins for basic hair wash and body wash. 15-20 mins with a body scrub/leg shave as well. If I shower in my parents power shower, those times are halved. 10 mins is not at all excessive

CheekyFuckersDontGetPastMe · 25/09/2019 22:38

A few minutes if not washing my hair or shaving

IncrediblySadToo · 25/09/2019 22:40

Have no idea what you could possibly be doing for 10 minutes in the shower

Getting clean, not just wet

aintnutinchanged · 25/09/2019 22:41

My PB is 3hours 7mins 😂😂

Fuma · 25/09/2019 22:43

She's giving you money though. When I give a hotel money to stay there I don't expect them to tell me how long to spend in the shower. There is nothing in my agreement with them about length of shower time.

FrangipaniBlue · 25/09/2019 22:43

I don't understand why it's bothering you so much, if she's a lodger then surely she's paying toward the water and electricity bills Hmm

Not washing hair - 2/3 minutes
Post run/gym with hair wash - 5 minutes

But my once a week routine I can easily be in 10 minutes or more.....

  • wash hair, rinse & repeat
  • conditioner on
  • wash & exfoliate face, sometimes add mask
  • wash & exfoliate body
  • shave legs & pits
  • rinse hair & face mask
IncrediblySadToo · 25/09/2019 22:44

@Dollygirl2008

That’s a pretty normal time to be in the shower. She’s paying to live in your house, it’s her home - you can’t tell her how long she can spend in the shower unless you’re prepared for her to move out (and the next one & the next one). If you’re going to have daft rules you need to discuss them before your lodgers move in.

You’ll be limiting her use of the washing machine & telling her how many times she’s allowed to flush the toilet next.

IF you want her to stay & feel welcome you cannot tell her to take 2minute shores!

IncrediblySadToo · 25/09/2019 22:44

Showers

Dollygirl2008 · 25/09/2019 22:45

It's not just about money - don't you have a view on water consumption when having 20 minute showers?!

OP posts:
Fuma · 25/09/2019 22:45

And no the phrase you've used is not aggressive but it's weird and controlling. She's not your daughter.

Fuma · 25/09/2019 22:47

I don't have any views on how long anyone spends in the shower unless I am financially and practically responsible for them.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 25/09/2019 22:47

perhaps turn the water off at points that you're not using it

Hahahaahahahahahahaha

YesQueen · 25/09/2019 22:48

3-4 mins or so for a shower/shave armpits
I wash my hair separately and only shave legs in bath (balance issues)

Fuma · 25/09/2019 22:50

Christ this is a weird thread. I've never been a lodger tbf but is it actually normal for landlords to tell their tenants how to act when they're naked in the shower? I mean, really, is that level of assumed control socially acceptable?
