Just need to figure out whether I'm being unreasonable or it's the norm for schools to finish at 2pm?

2pm seems very early.
DD's finishes at 3pm.

  • Tutor time
  • 2 lessons
  • break
  • 2 lessons
  • lunch
  • 1 lesson
Lessons are 1hr each so 5hrs teaching per day, 25 per week.
hellypad · 24/09/2019 16:40

15:10, they start at 8:45 and have 2 breaks and 5 hour long lessons.

Cuddlysnowleopard · 24/09/2019 16:40

3.15pm pretty standard where I live.

I don't know exactly. Some time between 3 and 3.30

Are you worried that they aren't teaching for long enough, aren't there rules about that? I'd be surprised if they weren't doing the required amount.

Grasspigeons · 24/09/2019 16:42

3pm
Where are you (country wise)

MrsSergeantSmith · 24/09/2019 16:42

DD is in year 11 and the official finish time is 2.45pm, however she attends 'voluntary' enhancement sessions Tues to Fri for an hour extra. But that's because the year are so woefully behind with massive gaps in their learning due to previous management that to stand a fighting chance of decent results, it needs to be done.
School starts at 8.35am, though during exams, which are happening every term this year, they are also going in an hour earlier too. Long day, but needs must really.

Bunnybigears · 24/09/2019 16:43

It depends what time they start and how long they have for breaks. I think the amount of teaching hours is regulated but you can fit them in however you like. DS does 8:45 to 3:00 with two short breaks (10 minutes I think) and 30 minutes for lunch. They finish at 2 on a Friday.

Three days at 15.05, two days at 15.55. They start at 8.50.

2pm seems very early by UK standards.

LeekMunchingSheepShagger · 24/09/2019 16:44

4.00. 8 35 minute lessons, 5 minute gaps in between, and a long (1.5 hour) lunch break with lots of clubs.

endofacentury · 24/09/2019 16:47

2:50 in the midlands

crimsonlake · 24/09/2019 16:48

You must have known this before they started there?

spicysausageroll · 24/09/2019 16:49

Mine finished at 2:20pm when I was at secondary school. Loved itSmile

Comefromaway · 24/09/2019 16:51

3.15pm.

I personally think it’s too early. Ds has to be at school at 8.40am and all the research says the teenage brain works best later in the day due to their natural sleep cycle.

It would be better to start at 9.00am or even later and finish at 3.45pm in my opinion.

Baguetteaboutit · 24/09/2019 16:51

Monday - Thursday 8:15 - 3.30/ 4.30 with clubs. Friday 8:15 - 1:30.

BarkandCheese · 24/09/2019 16:53

3.40pm Monday through Thursday, 2.40pm Friday. Start at 8.40am every day.

MongerTruffle · 24/09/2019 16:54

The school I work at starts at 08:35 and finishes at 15:40. We are the only school in our city that still has one hour for lunch and half an hour for break.

itbemay · 24/09/2019 16:55

8.40 - 14.30

GetUpAgain · 24/09/2019 16:57

8.45-3.20

Though I think 10.45-5.20 would be sooo much better.

Topseyt · 24/09/2019 16:58

3.15 pm around here. Essex.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 24/09/2019 16:59
