What time does your child's secondary school finish?

Just need to figure out whether I'm being unreasonable or it's the norm for schools to finish at 2pm?

Sounds like the school were breaching directed time (the legal number of hours teachers are required to work in most teaching contracts) and so they’ve had to adjust it.
It will be funding related, absolutely because otherwise they would hire more teachers and all work a little less hours whilst maintaining the normal school day. However I would welcome an early finish for my child personally!

Several schools in my area finish at 2pm one day each week. My DC's school starts at 8:40am every day. On Wednesdays they finish at 2pm and the rest of the week they finish at 3:20pm. They have a 20 minute break in the morning and 40 minutes for lunch every day. Other schools in the area finish at 2pm every Friday.

8 - 4.45 if they have a club 6, Monday to Friday
8 - 4 Saturday's

DS starts at 7.45, finishes at 1pm most says, 2pm one day of the week and 3.30 every other Thursday. He started secondary at age ten.

Is there a PTA or board of governors you could appeal to?

I would guess (based on anecdotes from experience more than anything concrete) that they are part of an academy chain and the change in the school day will have been approved by the school leadership, governor level and at academy trust level leadership level.
The PTA in this situation wouldn't have any weight at all.

If OP wants to query it then her best bet would be asking the head directly, but experience suggests she'll get a generic response about it being checked and approved.

Ours is 8.55 til 3.25, 25 Mon break and 45 min lunch (according to y7 dd, she said the main school get less lunchtime). Clubs til 4.30/4.45. Gates open at 8am with some morning clubs. A few schools have the early finish thing, I wouldn't be too keen on that especially if I was working.
