Unplanned - Abortion Film **Trigger Warning** Title edited by MNHQ sensitive content*

Hi,
Last night I watched a film called Unplanned, which is based on a true story of a lady working within an abortion clinic called ‘Planned Parenthood’. The film itself brought me to tears on many occasions and it’s made me feel very uncomfortable surrounding abortion. I had an unplanned pregnancy with my third child but knew abortion wasn’t an option for me. I am quite shocked by the amount of abortions that still take place within our society. Does anyone else feel this way? I know we all have different views but i just wondered what other people’s thoughts were on this very sensitive topic.

But the pro lifers who say they are against abortion except in the case of rape are surely just focusing on the 'morality' of the woman rather than the foetus's right to life. If you believe the unborn have a fundamental right to life, then the circumstances around the conception should surely be irrelevant? Otherwise what you are effectively saying is that if you willingly have sex then having an unwanted baby is a suitable punishment.

Exactly.

It's not the foetuses fault that it was conceived from rape, so why is it OK to abort it in that case, if being 'pro life' is about the value of the life of the foetus!

It's just misogyny.

Propertyofhood · 20/09/2019 17:14

Sorry, I meant to put a question mark not an explanation mark there...

Shalom23 · 20/09/2019 17:15

Guess what OP? Just because abortion is legal doesn't mean you have to have one. So why are you so concerned about other people's perfectly legal choices?

Propertyofhood · 20/09/2019 17:16

Pro lifers aren't always really pro life, a lot of them support the death penalty.

Yep, and a lot of them are happy to see children being massacred at school as collateral for the 'right' to be able to walk into a supermarket and buy a gun as well.

Instatwat · 20/09/2019 17:18

dons hard hat

I had an abortion at nearly 21 weeks. My daughter had a condition that she couldn’t have ever survived.

The ones who are pro-lifers or similar on this thread - do your thoughts apply to me too? Do tell me the truth, I am genuinely curious and even if you think I’m the worst person in ever, I think I did the right thing so you won’t upset me (I don’t think).

DoctorAllcome · 20/09/2019 17:20

Oops sorry I seem to have double posted. The web page crashed and so I thought I had to rewrite my post. I apologize for saying same thing twice!

Stocktakefuck, I got this from your pictures which gives a better idea of what it's all about. Horrific.

Because criminals have committed heinous crimes and if someone takes away another’s life, why should they be spared? It should be a life for a life for people like Myra Hindley and the Wests.

Babies on the other hand are innocent beings who should be given the right to live. They’ve done nothing wrong.

Lockheart · 20/09/2019 17:22

No woman thinks "why bother spending two seconds taking a pill, when I can take hours out of my day to see two doctors, wait around in reception, then spend a day at the abortion clinic".

The idea that abortion is seen as a safety net so why bother with contraception is total bollocks. They're not convenient and they're not pleasant. Contraception is a much easier option.

StockTakeFucks · 20/09/2019 17:23

@Rachelover60 there's a lot more and some BBC articles in English too,I didn't know how much to post or show.

In a way I don't want to upset people too much, but in another this shit has happened?it is real,it could happen again, which is why I'll always be pro choice ,even though I probably wouldn't be alive now if abortion was legal.

DoctorAllcome · 20/09/2019 17:24

Pro lifers aren't always really pro life, a lot of them support the death penalty.

Death penalty is irrelevant when looking at abortion. You cannot compare the two.

ghostyslovesheets · 20/09/2019 17:25

either life is sacred or it isn't

women seeking terminations have done nothing wrong either

Pro lifers like to drop in the old 'except in rape cases' caveat because other wise it exposes their argument as cold and callous

Eliza1990 · 20/09/2019 17:25

They're not convenient and they're not pleasant
Why are 34% of abortions repeat abortions then

ghostyslovesheets · 20/09/2019 17:27

Why are 34% of abortions repeat abortions then

because women need them again?

Saucery · 20/09/2019 17:27

Many reasons, Eliza. They are the best option, repeatedly for some women. Maybe think about what sort of relationship or situation you’d have to be in to make that the case.

BertrandRussell · 20/09/2019 17:30

“They're not convenient and they're not pleasant

Can you really not think of any reasons? Women leading chaotic lives. Women in abusive relationships. Women with drug or alcohol problems. Women with learning difficulties. Women with mental health problems. Women who are just flaky and forgetful. Women who don’t care.

DoctorAllcome · 20/09/2019 17:30

lot of them [pro-lifers] are happy to see children being massacred at school

No one is happy about school shootings! Honestly, it’s one thing to discuss the different stances on abortion, and quite another to just start demonizing the side you do not agree with. If you cannot discuss actual beliefs and stick to the subject, without making outrageous claims- then don’t post.

PristineCondition · 20/09/2019 17:31

I had an abortion at 28, already a mother of two. In a loving relationship with the dad of the two kids(still with him)
In the waiting room there were 12 women and i think i was one of the youngest.

I was anti abortion until i was faced with an unplanned pregnancy that i couldn't face
I have zero regrets 6 years on.

ghostyslovesheets · 20/09/2019 17:32

You need a degree of empathy to put yourself in other womens shoes

Rubicon80 · 20/09/2019 17:32

No one is happy about school shootings!

I've spoken to or interacted online with a LOT of right-wing Americans who explicitly prefer there to be school shootings if the other option is any restriction on gun ownership.

Yeah, we can. Thanks anyway.

StockTakeFucks · 20/09/2019 17:34

Because women are able to get pregnant for quite a long time. A lot can happen in a minimum of 30 years, addictions, chaotic lives, rapes, abuse, several pregnancies non compatible with life or threatening the mother's life ,relationship breakdown etc.

You can have one at 16 and one at 42 for entirely different reasons.

Rubicon80 · 20/09/2019 17:34

@Pinkyyy

You literally just told a woman who had to terminate a wanted pregnancy, late, in unimaginably traumatic circumstances, that she didn't do enough to keep her baby alive.

And you call yourself compassionate.

Angry
Pinkyyy · 20/09/2019 17:35

@Rubicon80 she literally asked for people's opinions. I've given mine and I'm sure others will give completely different ones.
