Unplanned - Abortion Film **Trigger Warning** Title edited by MNHQ sensitive content*

Hi,
Last night I watched a film called Unplanned, which is based on a true story of a lady working within an abortion clinic called ‘Planned Parenthood’. The film itself brought me to tears on many occasions and it’s made me feel very uncomfortable surrounding abortion. I had an unplanned pregnancy with my third child but knew abortion wasn’t an option for me. I am quite shocked by the amount of abortions that still take place within our society. Does anyone else feel this way? I know we all have different views but i just wondered what other people’s thoughts were on this very sensitive topic.

@pinkyyy no, obviously I didn’t, otherwise I would have. There was no chance. Entire amounts of vital anatomy were missing. I didn’t see it as “giving up” on her, I saw it as being realistic.

Pinkyyy · 20/09/2019 17:37

Yes I'm insensitive because I think every single person should have a chance at life. No exceptions.

And for the record I do not support the death penalty.

StockTakeFucks · 20/09/2019 17:37

Pinkyyy just shows the main issue with pro birthers. It's all about the birth, that's it. The concern stops there . No thought is ever given to quality of life and well being if the baby. Even less is given to the well being (mental or physical) of the woman.

Pinkyyy · 20/09/2019 17:39

@Instatwat I respect that it must have been the worst position anyone could ever find themselves in. Of course I'd never tell you you were a horrible person because I'm sure it was awful for you.

StockTakeFucks · 20/09/2019 17:39

@Instatwat but "miracles"!!!

I mean it's irrelevant if the baby has no brain, no internal organs etc and will die as soon as it's born. It's all about the miracles...and giving birth.Hmm

I'm so sorry for what you had to go through .Thanks

Righttolife · 20/09/2019 17:40

A unborn baby's heartbeat is heard at 6 weeks. I can't belive in this day and age people still say things like cluster of cells! The guardian is a pro abortion paper ! Babies with cleft lips downs syndrom and spina bifida are killed up to birth. Baby girls are killed . Aborted babies are born alive and left to die..People are trying to decriminalise abortion in this country so any baby can be killed up to birth.

Saucery · 20/09/2019 17:40

All about controlling women and what they do with their bodies and reproductive choices. An age old oppression propped up by advances in medical science and knowledge.

Saucery · 20/09/2019 17:41

I think a klaxon has gone off somewhere.

Instatwat · 20/09/2019 17:41

.... and to clarify:

  • we had a “normal” 12 week scan
  • we only found out at 20 weeks that she would die
  • she was a very very very wanted baby and I speak about her a lot.

Her brother knows she existed and we have photos of her in our house. I will always have two children, this was not a decision we took lightly. I went through a full labour in hospital. I held her and read her a story. I kissed her and said sorry. I’m so glad she never suffered.

DoctorAllcome · 20/09/2019 17:41

@Rubicon80
And were all these Americans pro-life? I highly doubt that tbh.
And quite frankly, even right wing Americans are not happy about school shootings. They just (mistakenly) think that school shootings can be stopped without banning guns.

You know, you catch more bees with honey than vinegar. If you actually wanted to change the mind of the pro-life people on this thread, it would have been possible if you (and others) hadn’t bounced around demonizing pro-lifers.

I guess though it is more important to you to attack on anything other than abortion than actually try and convince them why pro-life is so damaging.

BertrandRussell · 20/09/2019 17:42

Miracles do not happen every day. Occasionally the vanishingly unlikely best possible outcome happens. But miracles? Nope.

Saucery · 20/09/2019 17:42

@Instatwat you don’t have to clarify anything for this thread or anyone on it Flowers

Instatwat · 20/09/2019 17:43

@StockTakeFucks yes, “miracles”. Sadly none for me or my daughter. I wonder what people would be happy to put a defenceless baby through on the 0.00000000001% chance they might survive (no guarantees on the quality of her life).

StockTakeFucks · 20/09/2019 17:44

A lot of the forced birthers would. And that says more about them than you. Thanks

DifficultPifcultLemonDifficult · 20/09/2019 17:45

Pinkyyy you are disgusting.

My daughter was born with a condition that meant every minute of her short life she was in agony.

Would I rather have put her through that short, pain filled life so she could die 2 weeks later? Absolutely not. If her condition was picked up in pregnancy I would have spared her that suffering even if it meant I never got to meet her.

How dare you start bleating on about medical miracles to someone who made the most loving and selfless choice she could in the circumstances Angry

Typical forced birther, doesn't give a fuck about anything other than abortion rates.

formerbabe · 20/09/2019 17:45

@Instatwat Flowers. Sorry for your loss...it must take a lot of bravery to make that decision. Ignore the crap on here about 'miracles'. In the real world you made sure your baby didn't needlessly suffer Flowers

GCAcademic · 20/09/2019 17:46

What a load of emotive shit, Righttolife. You must think people on here are utterly thick if you expect us to fall for that. Know your audience and up your game before you turn up to astroturf.

Pinkyyy · 20/09/2019 17:47

Oh FFS no I am not disgusting. Don't give me the "how dare you say that" when she asked people to tell her.

Look you have your views and I have mine. It just so happens that cases like these are a very, very, VERY small minority. Most abortions are done for absolutely bullshit reasons.

DoctorAllcome · 20/09/2019 17:47

Well this thread has degenerated into mudslinging. So I’m punching out.

StockTakeFucks · 20/09/2019 17:48

Most abortions are done for absolutely bullshit reasons.

What's a bullshit reason?

Instatwat · 20/09/2019 17:48

Thanks for the support; I really was genuinely interested if these views would apply to my situation because it seems to blindingly obvious to me that they shouldn’t. I knew I’d need the hard hat Wink
Thankfully the support of a brilliant husband, family and therapist has (mostly) got me into a stable headspace and I still do feel strongly that we made the right choice for her and us.
(“Choice” seems like the wrong word. The outcome was always sadly going to be the same).

Baguetteaboutit · 20/09/2019 17:49

The anti-choicers are obsessed by the quantity of life with no regard for the quality of life.

I suppose that makes sense when you fetishize suffering and then craft it into a religion.

JacquesHammer · 20/09/2019 17:51

Most abortions are done for absolutely bullshit reasons

Like what?

There is only one reason that’s important. “I don’t want to be pregnant”. That is all that’s needed.

Pinkyyy · 20/09/2019 17:52

Unless someone is in a situation similar to @Instatwat then their reason is probably bullshit.
