A thousand strawberry lollies and the Princess of Liechtenstein - any Cabin Pressure fans around?

I’ve just been binging on Cabin pressure and then I saw this news story - an off duty EasyJet pilot was going on holiday but they were delayed as waiting for a relief crew. He had his licence and was within hours so offered to fly the plane and they accepted. It made me think of Martin’s interview with Swiss Air when he said he never went anywhere without his pilot’s licence!! I think I might need a life Blush

I’d love it to come back!

We all love it in our house. Always playing yellow car. Dd1 has listened so many times she can practically quote verbatim. We’re going to Flying Visit in November - surprise for dd1’s birthday, she’s going to be beside herself

Polar bears!

Did anyone else listen to JF on my teenage diary? I think Madame Szyszko-Bohusz’s name (yes I had to check the spelling) comes from a street where he lived in Poland on a gap year.

FMFL not now but it comes round a couple of times a year , next time it's on I will try to remember to post it on here.

SamBeckett · 09/09/2019 15:46

Ah yes I love Old Harry's Game too, I think Andy Hamilton is fantastic, he has a series on radio called Andy Hamilton sort of remembers , it's him alone doing stand up / story telling . It's very funny

LollipopViolet · 09/09/2019 17:25

Yellow car :)

Love Cabin Pressure, so many quotable moments.

AlunWynsKnee · 09/09/2019 17:29

Those of you off to see Flying Visit won't be disappointed :) We went on the first leg and we're going again this time round as well.

Bigfatpicnic · 09/09/2019 18:33

I’ve found my CP tribe. I’ve bought all the audio book versions of CP, it’s a gem of a listen.

Just re-listened to a few of them again on holiday. I have listened to these so many times as they always make me laugh. I’m the only fan in our house thou!

I’d love another series.

Have to say, I think the lovely John Finniemore peaked with "Cabin Pressure", both as author and as Arthur. Though he was also very lucky to get such a stellar cast for it, including himself, of course!

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 09/09/2019 19:28

Please please please reassure me that you ALL sing "Get dressed you merry gentlemen" at top volume around Christmas time? And then tell your family that you know other verses? And then argue with your loved ones about what a god rest is...?

Or is that just our household Blush

And when eating we frequently comment "X is the correct dosage of [insert food type here] for the adult human male!"

Since we first listened to Ipswich, no-one in the house has been able to say the number 19 without someone else saying "Will you all please stop saying nineteen!"

LollipopViolet · 09/09/2019 19:33

"So on behalf of all your crew today, may I just say, geronimo!"

Re-listening to a few tonight :)

DominicCummingsGilet · 09/09/2019 19:49

‘Sean Connery, in Vyshny Volochyok
in the rain on a drizzly solo trek,
said, “forgetting my sweater
has made me much wetter. I certainly do miss my polo-neck.’

Which episode is it with the drinking clubs and Mark Ramprakatsaman?

Fitton?

With the windsock arms

IWouldBeSuperb · 09/09/2019 20:03

Love this series SO much - I never get bored of listening to it!

My username is a nod to my undying crush on Douglas!

"Of COURSE I should do it! I would be SUPERB!" Grin

DominicCummingsGilet · 09/09/2019 20:08

MJN Air. Putting the excitement back into air travel. Sometimes, too much so.

I think Fitton is the one where Martin and Carolyn get drunk and the client turns up. Maybe it’s Kuala Lumpur?

My CP name

CmdrCressidaDuck · 09/09/2019 20:21

Jelly Babies to manual.

I think my favourites are probably Yverdon-les-Bains, St Petersburg, Ipswich, and of course Zurich. With bonus points for Ottery St Mary. If you haven't already, I really recommend reading John Finnemore's Farewell Bear Facts about each episode, which he posted in the run-up to Zurich airing. My favourite is about Martin and Douglas's post-goose-impact conversation; Douglas is running through the engine shutdown checklist and calling Martin "Captain", and then he switches modes and says "Martin, do you want me to land it?" Martin says he'll do it, and Douglas says OK. It's a small but hugely important moment in their relationship, and shows how far they've come since, say, Douz. johnfinnemore.blogspot.com/2014/12/farewell-bear-facts-st-petersburg.html?m=1

It's the character payoffs that really make this work; I love every single one. A lesser writer would have let the characters keep falling back into the ruts they started in so that they could be milked for more comedy, but the characters drive the comedy, as is only right and proper.

Okay, bye! Love, The Airport.

This always brings a tear to my eye.

Gamorasgran · 09/09/2019 21:18

My dad dies recently. I was sat in the limo travelling down to the church, red eyed and so very sad. Everyone was quiet. And I saw one. And I said it. Yellow car.

That is actually true too.

Ottery st Mary is my favourite- I love them singing those magnificent men in their flying machine. Ipswich close second. One is the acceptable adult portion for quiches you know.

Frankiestein402 · 09/09/2019 21:19

Thanks - not caught double acts - will go look. I'll listen to virtually anything Andy Hamilton does. (and David sedaris)

Harry's game stories aren't quite yr5 IMHO because a lot of the humour depends on knowing the characters - plus understanding the damnation concept and the unrequited sinning :) of Thomas )

A couple of the "I'm sorry I'll read that again work well too."
(a lot of the old radio comedy is available on www.oldtimeradiodownloads.com/comedy/)

bringonyourwreckingball · 09/09/2019 21:20

I think St Petersburg is my favourite but love Zurich 1 and 2 for how cleverly they tie the whole thing together and I can listen to Limerick (my kids love to quote the phonetic alphabet bits at each other) and Johannesburg forever but also love all the Burling days. The only one i’m not hugely keen on is Helsinki.

DominicCummingsGilet · 09/09/2019 21:30

Thanks for the reminder about the Farewell Bear Facts Cressida. Loved this from Edinburgh:

-Deleted lines, after Douglas tells the story of his first stag night:

MARTIN: And the other two?

DOUGLAS: Antigua.

MARTIN: You went to the same island for two successive stag nights?

DOUGLAS: Same island. Same club. Same year.

The sheep prank. Loved the thought of Her getting a sheep

XXcstatic · 09/09/2019 21:43

My favourite line in the whole thing - though it's not a funny one - is "Herc, I love you, but Douglas will be captain".

The soul of CP right there.

Lump in throat even though i've heard it a 100 times Smile

Leapyearlover · 10/09/2019 07:02

Who are your favourite occasional characters? I really enjoyed the Brummie engineer who changed the lightbulb on Gerti but refused to use a ladder ("the widowmaker"). Grin Also Carl is great.

Deathraystare · 10/09/2019 07:42

I absolutely loved it but only got the CD this year!

I have leant it to my Aunt but I don't think she will 'get' it. She has a very infantile humour. She got a birthday card from a friend which had a runner bean on it (a nod to my aunt's past love of gardening. The message was something about bean gardening as in have you been gardening or something. Puerile but she thought it was the most funny thing she ever heard. The crd is still on her dresser.
