A thousand strawberry lollies and the Princess of Liechtenstein - any Cabin Pressure fans around?

I’ve just been binging on Cabin pressure and then I saw this news story - an off duty EasyJet pilot was going on holiday but they were delayed as waiting for a relief crew. He had his licence and was within hours so offered to fly the plane and they accepted. It made me think of Martin’s interview with Swiss Air when he said he never went anywhere without his pilot’s licence!! I think I might need a life Blush

I’d love it to come back!

So many opportunities to quote bits of Cabin Pressure in everyday life...

I have a couple of colleagues who also know it well - at a training day, we were in a big hall and one of the guys said to me "it's a lecture theatre with 500 seats" and I of course replied "some of which are at the back".

I have a fondness for Fitton, where they all sort of rub along together, like a family being stuck inside on a rainy day. And then work together to be able to do the job. And Douglas reveals a vulnerability. So much going on!

@SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius

YES! Douz is amazing. Especially for the line ‘Arthur, fetch me my Biggles hat’.

I love Douglas’ Air England deceptions.

BelleSausage · 09/09/2019 07:19

And the opening monologues are just the best. Douglas’ always but Arthur has some good ones too.

Leapyearlover · 09/09/2019 09:48

Slightly off topic but I also love Double Acts. If anyone on this thread hasn't discovered them yet (unlikely!) you're in for a treat!

I wish I could listen to them all for the first time again! I've heard them all so many times (although they do still make me laugh!)

TonTonMacoute · 09/09/2019 11:03

Also avid fans here. Much of our family dialogue and in jokes are CP based.

I agree Cremona is one of the least successful, but it still has some cracking lines.

'Arthur, put the kettle on and dig out those lemon hand wipes'

DH has a small Bluetooth speaker he uses for conference calls, it comes on holiday with us so we can listen to CP in the evening, with a glass of rosé.

MrsGrindah · 09/09/2019 11:05

My problem is that I’m the only one in my house whose heard it so I make all of these quips to myself and I sound bonkers

Jinglesplodge · 09/09/2019 11:10

Oh I have found my people!

In our house we use "hey, chief, [...] And how does that sound To You?" all the time...

My least favourite is Boston though. I'm not sure real human death is the right tone.

SamBeckett · 09/09/2019 11:15

I love CP , I listen to it in bbc radio iPlayer.

Now where's that bottle of Talisker / apple juice hidden ?Grin

Very · 09/09/2019 11:18

DH can make me weak at the knees by doing his Douglas Richards impersonation. He can do the voice VERY well and I am helpless before its seductive power Blush

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 09/09/2019 11:19

Love it... the cheeseboard and Alpha Dog...

Grambler · 09/09/2019 11:22

We also yell "but why were you IN the back?" a lot.

BringMoreCoffee · 09/09/2019 11:26

Ah yes, I'm home!

It's quoted endlessly in our house and we play the one sound game and yellow car. DD, age 9, has embarrassed.us very publicly by quoting "vodka - colourless, odourless, proof that God loves pilots, or at least the Russians do".

We also love spotting Roger Allam in TV shows from his beautiful voice alone.

FMFL · 09/09/2019 11:28

Are there any episodes on iPlayer now?

MrsSpenserGregson · 09/09/2019 11:29

Oh I love love love Cabin Pressure!!!!!

Favourite episodes: Ottery St Mary, St Petersburg, Wokingham and both Zurichs. I am always playing Yellow Car.

MrsSpenserGregson · 09/09/2019 11:33

I'm now fantasising about Cabin Pressure - The Movie ...

merryhouse · 09/09/2019 11:35

I'm not playing - I just wanted to say it before Arthur did

Brilliant comedy. ;)

And done with virtually no innuendo - had trawled BBC radio comedy for programmes that will get yr5 daughter into the pictures that radio paints. So much of the comedy slots today rely on silly voices or innuendo.

Of the recent stuff Reincarnathan and The Unbelievable truth have worked - of the older stuff selected episodes of radioactive started her listening but nothing touches cabin pressure.

IJustWantToWearDungarees · 09/09/2019 11:41

I LOVE Cabin Pressure! That and In and Out of The Kitchen always cheer me up. I think my favourite episode is the Birling Day one where Douglas uses the nail biting stuff to make the whisky taste horrible. Can't remember which one that is. Roger Allam is a comedy genius.

DominicCummingsGilet · 09/09/2019 11:46

FMFL if you go on the Podcasts app on Apple, someone has uploaded all of cabin pressure - it’s called Cumberbin’s treasure.

Disclaimer, I did pay for them first time round but since then they’ve been wiped from my iPad.

Digging out one of my fave user names for this thread.

PenguindreamsofDraco · 09/09/2019 12:09

My people! Carolyn is basically my spirit animal, I adore her.

I think my absolute favourite thing is that Martin's captain in Zurich 2 is 'Capitaine Loutre' (French for otter) i.e. a live otter in the flight deck, whether the CAA approves or not Grin
