A thousand strawberry lollies and the Princess of Liechtenstein - any Cabin Pressure fans around?

I’ve just been binging on Cabin pressure and then I saw this news story - an off duty EasyJet pilot was going on holiday but they were delayed as waiting for a relief crew. He had his licence and was within hours so offered to fly the plane and they accepted. It made me think of Martin’s interview with Swiss Air when he said he never went anywhere without his pilot’s licence!! I think I might need a life Blush

I’d love it to come back!

What is your favourite episode? I am torn between Ottery St Mary vs Uskerty as the funniest, and St Petersburg vs Zurich Part 2 as the most emotionally satisfying.

DominicCummingsGilet · 08/09/2019 20:53

That’s making me feel better ChequerBoard!

My kids love it, it's the only thing we can all agree to listen on in the car.

Only Father Christmas cares what you want! Theres a bee! What a ridiculous dog!

Leapyearlover · 08/09/2019 20:54

Zurich Part 2.
That explains it. I bought them all before Zurich came out but have only heard Zurich once! Controversial question- which is your least favourite episode? Mine is probably Cremona. Or possibly the polar bear one which I can't spell: funny but I can't forgive the lovely Douglas for his dangerous flying (I am a nervous passenger!)

Leapyearlover · 08/09/2019 20:56

Favourite: Ottery St Mary and Ipswich

ImportantWater · 08/09/2019 20:58

My least favourite is Cremona too, if that is the one with the famous actress who's fed up with her fans.

MillicentMargaretAmanda · 08/09/2019 20:59

I've found my people! I'm just in the middle of a relisten (while avoiding some worthy audiobook or another). So many fabulous moments but for sheer syrup the Douglas vs Herc smooth-off has to be a winner. AH and RA have such beautiful voices anyway, so I just sit back and happily drown.

Which is awkward when driving...

DominicCummingsGilet · 08/09/2019 21:00

My least favourite is Cremona too!

Cremona is annoying, mainly because of Helen Baxendale.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 08/09/2019 21:04

Caroline (role playing difficult passenger) “I’m gluten intolerant”

Arthur - “I’ll try not to be too gluten-annoying!”

My favourite episode culminates in them taking the plane by road from one airport to another, through the desert - Douz, I think it is.

MrsDimmond · 08/09/2019 21:17

It's so difficult to have a favourite but I love Xinzhou when the APU breaks and they spend the night in Gertie. Arthur's snow man saves the day then ruins the day and then saves the day again. And they play fizz buzz ....and Martin's shirt smells of bacon
I could go on (singing "here I am don't tread on me")

I LOVE Cabin Pressure (as fans can tell from my username ...Wink)

MrsDimmond · 08/09/2019 21:24

I've just discovered my name should be MrsDimont!! Grin

CAROLYN: Qikiqtarjuaq. Q-I-K ...
ARTHUR: Mum, sorry, but you forgot the U.
CAROLYN: No, I did not. Thereisn’ta U. It’s Q-I-K-I ...
ARTHUR: No, Mum. There’salwaysa U after a Q. It’s the law. Mrs Dimont taught me that – eventually.
CAROLYN: And you are a credit to her. Nonetheless, the good people of Qikiqtarjuaq choose to spell it Q-I-K-I-Q-T ...
MARTIN: Another Q?!
CAROLYN: Yes. ... Q-T ...
ARTHUR: Q-T?! Well,I’mnot gonna be the one to tell Mrs Dimont.

DominicCummingsGilet · 08/09/2019 21:30
Grin

Don’t forget the “Farewell Bear Facts”!

Cheguevarahamster · 08/09/2019 21:37

Yellow car.

TragicallyUnbeyachted · 08/09/2019 21:39

I had exactly the same thought about Martin's interview and the easyJet story!

I think Zurich is almost perfect just because it's so beautifully crafted and calls back... yellow car... to so many previous points. The bit where Martin is pretending to be Douglas while Douglas is pretending to be Gordon and Arthur is pretending to be himself... and I like Teresa and Martin together.

I am annoyed by Helsinki because they should really have cast an actual 14yo rather than an adult trying to "do" a child's voice.

So many opportunities to quote bits of Cabin Pressure in everyday life...

NewNameJust4Today · 08/09/2019 21:41

Love love love this show -Zurich two is just fabulous

PeterthePainter · 08/09/2019 21:42

I love Douglas's reference for Martin in Zurich: "Myself excepted, there is no finer pilot in MJN Air."

TragicallyUnbeyachted · 08/09/2019 21:42

Someone in MN once claimed that all the characters on Cabin Pressure were "inadequate and horrible" and I am still cross about it.

StroppyWoman · 08/09/2019 21:45

It’s radio perfection.

XXcstatic · 08/09/2019 21:46

Helsinki is probably my least favourite - it doesn't quite work, IMO. And I struggle with Qikiqtarjuaq because they are too mean to Martin and I can't bear (no pun intended...) embarrassment comedy.

TragicallyUnbeyachted · 08/09/2019 21:48

PLUS I love in Paris when Benedict Cumberbatch had just started playing Sherlock they spent the whole episode working in references to him as virtually every other fictional detective except Holmes.

And personally I'm convinced that then in Sherlock the scene where he impersonates a French waiter with an outrageous French accent was an homage to Captain Martin du Creiff in Qikiqtarjuaq.

DominicCummingsGilet · 08/09/2019 21:48

Love your username TragicallyUnbeyachted!

What?! Hopefully they were banned.

I also love Molokai.

Carolyn: He calls me Babooshka.
Douglas: And yet he lives Grin

And them rallying round to make sure Arthur gets his Christmas Smile

Another one always playing Yellow Car! My favourite episode is St Petersburg, because that's the first time they all really pull together, and Carolyn's last line - "Get off My Jet Now!" is so emotional and so satisfying. The writing is so, so good. Wokingham, where we meet Martin's family, is so well done, with the way JF shows how Martin's mother favours the older brother and that is what has made him so insecure and chippy. When they are saying goodbye to her having brought the brother down a peg or two, and Martin's mother tells him she noticed what they did, and they must never do it again - such a subtle way to expose the family dynamics.

I have really tried to love JF's other stuff, and saw the last Flying Visit tour last year, but it all just seems too clever-clever. Think I will have to wait for him to write another sitcom!

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 08/09/2019 22:46

We can all quote all of it off by heart in our house.

Favourite episode - I'm torn between Limerick and Ipswich. In our household, it is very common to obtain buy-in for one's idea Grin But we do also love Uskerty. I hate olives - now if anyone offers me one, it turns out I mind a lot!

Least favourite - Cremona and Helsinki are re-listened to least often.

I love the perfection of them flying off into the sunset at the end, to a place beginning with AA, as if it were to begin all over again
