Do you know anyone that has been on a TV programme?

Whether it’s a dating one, a quiz show, a talent one like X Factor or reality TV... Do you know anyone that’s been on a TV programme? Or have you?!

I like hearing about what it’s actually like behind the scenes on the programmes. DS is reasonably close with someone who was on Love Island. He said you’re told exactly who to speak to and what to talk about (shock...) and that some of the people who are portrayed as horrible and moody are the nicest people in there.

Any stories of your own?

Years ago, a colleague of ours appeared on Deal or No Deal. She got to the final 'unboxing.' I don't recall every detail but the Dealer offered her £2000 not to open her box. Her husband was in the audience and Noel asked him what he thought she should do. Husband said that she should refuse as £2000 wasn't that significant. Audience were NOT impressed by this or him!
She chose to open the box and came away with £2.

I’ve been an extra on made in Chelsea, sung at the olympics, been in the background of a few other shots of auditions Ive been on etc.

I’d love to have the general knowledge to go on Pointless, I think that would be the coolest claim to fame of them all!

And not ‘on tv’ but I’ve been in the audience of a few shows - the aftershow of the apprentice (can’t remember the name of it), and Celebrity Juice which was the first time I’d seen that show and it was soooo bad. I do hate Keith Lemon though 😄 It’s fun to see the bits that don’t make it onto TV. Went through a phase of being an audience memeber just as a fun thing to do while we lived in London.

Oh and I just remembered my choir were fast tracked through the auditions for BGT but didn’t get through to the actual shows I think. We had a looooooong day waiting around the Hammersmith Apollo and a few auditions before that.

DH applies to be in the audience of every episode of Strictly every year and we haven’t made it once 😢🤞🏻🤞🏻

BendydickCuminsnatch · 04/09/2019 20:25

Oh we (choir) also sang at the Baftas so that was on TV! It’s all coming back to me! Past life definitely.

ConorMcGregorsChin · 04/09/2019 20:27

I've been on Masterchef.
They asked me to go back on as the Producer and Director both thought I should have won.
I couldn't be arsed to put myself through it again!

Pinkarsedfly · 04/09/2019 21:15

Ooh, I know!

A parent of one of my kids’ best friends was in Game of Thrones.

The more of these I read I realise I have quite a few!

Dd1 has been an extra on Casualty a couple of times, And also acted the part of a famous serial killer in a series about them as she bears a surprising resemblance to the person she portrayed which is a little disturbing. I showed my Dad a pictures of the actual person and he said yes that's Dd1...

A good friend of hers has also quite recently hàd a speaking part as a patient on Casualty which was good.

I was at secondary school with someone who went on Blockbusters.

I spotted someone from work on Songs of Praise.

Behind the scenes watching recordings of programmes is a real eye opener into how it's done.
I saw Red Dwarf being filmed once. Basically a series of rooms facing the audience make up the spaceship etc. Quite weird.
And Dd1 and I watched 'The Cube' being filmed. We had to clap and cheer for ages as the contestant walked out to the presenter. It was hard work!

chester I'm well jealous - I always wanted to go on Mallet's Mallet. A friend from school (who used to follow me around like
puppy begging me to date him, but I wouldn't because he was the year below me!) is a local BBC newscaster now and it makes me chuckle to think of him as a teen.

Marmite27 · 04/09/2019 22:35

A girl my husband used to work with (and I work with her husband now coincidentally) went on family fortunes.

It came on tv when we were abroad and we were gobsmacked looking at the tv.

Also a guy I went to uni with was on catchphrase.

cricketmum84 · 04/09/2019 22:35

My parents garage was used on an episode of Morse, does that count? 😂😂

TheCatsACunt · 04/09/2019 23:01

@MuseumOfYou, do you live in Dorset by any chance?

TheJellyBabyMadeMeDoIt · 05/09/2019 00:14

My brother has done loads of extra work, mainly in real crime story stuff. He played one of Dennis Nielson's victims and was thrilled to be told the jacket he wore had previously been worn by Frank Gallagher of Shameless fame.

Bro and SIL were also extras in a documentary about Dunblane, they were police officers.

I have appeared on Granada Reports as part of a piece about rowing (I was a cox) and also featured in the crowd of Michael Barrymore's My Kinda People.

My uncle once wanked a pig on the BBC he was a pig farmer not a pervert My nan was devastated, she'd told all her friends to tune in (local news segment about factory farming vs organic). All the grandkids thought it was fantastic.

MuseumOfYou, do you live in Dorset by any chance?

Very possibly!

Wincarnis · 05/09/2019 04:50

Tiswas, in the cage

HeronLanyon · 05/09/2019 05:25

As a kid I was an extra in a film - as part of cinema audience scene. I remember the day going on forever with multiple takes, the slightest error by any of us requiring more takes etc. Totally tedious, I’ve forgotten film it was and have never seen it I think. Happened as friend’s dad was very very famous actor and I thought it would be exciting and glamorous ! NOT.

ChristinaMarlowe · 05/09/2019 05:35

DH was on Masterchef The Professionals not long ago

ChristinaMarlowe · 05/09/2019 05:42

@HarrySnotter A quick Google of the episode that featured all those ladies reveals the band is called Years and Years. Just call me Sheerluck Holmes 😉

flumpybear · 05/09/2019 05:57

A friend and colleague was on embarrassing bodies - he was the surgeon doing the procedure

I was on Pebble Mill as a kid

Another colleague was on who wants to be a millionaire - won I think £64k

JorahsMistress · 05/09/2019 05:58

@TheJellyBabyMadeMeDoIt

My uncle once wanked a pig on the BBC

Wtf? Why would he wank a pig??

flumpybear · 05/09/2019 06:07

My grandad is always showing up on the war channel or war programmes talking about WW2 bless his heart 💔

Enidthecat · 05/09/2019 06:21

I'm sort of related to Geoff from Bykee Grove.

I used to be on Light Lunch regularly in the audience as I loved Mel abd Sue.

My brother was on Eggheads and didn't get his question right.

My friend was on Come Dibw With Me.

I've been interviewed several times in my career field for news and documentaries.

Enidthecat · 05/09/2019 06:22

Byker not Bykee

HeronLanyon · 05/09/2019 06:24

My mate is an actor who's been on a few things and I have another friend who's an extra (mainly in period dramas)

My daughter (and briefly me) was on School Swap
