Whether it’s a dating one, a quiz show, a talent one like X Factor or reality TV... Do you know anyone that’s been on a TV programme? Or have you?!

I like hearing about what it’s actually like behind the scenes on the programmes. DS is reasonably close with someone who was on Love Island. He said you’re told exactly who to speak to and what to talk about (shock...) and that some of the people who are portrayed as horrible and moody are the nicest people in there.

Any stories of your own?

@nowifi there’s a blast from the last, fun house! When I was a kid we were neighbours with Pat Sharp and I had the biggest crush on his son Blush Never had the chance to go on the show though sadly.

Was on Nickelodeon a few times though!

I've a friend was on the first season of don't tell the bride. The producers took the dress away and said they'd get it altered, then delivered it late and unaltered to the very stressed bride! They also sorted the catering and organised a hog roast when her family were MuslimShock
Another friend provided services to don't tell the bride, and they also said that it was only the producers who were in contact with them, the groom didn't do much at all.

Away for work, just saw us on a trailer. Saw it late last night too. DH was doing his 'go me' dance. It looked nice and fun....not the dance particularly, but the overall tone.

prampushingdownthehighst · 04/09/2019 08:56

My geography teacher was in a programme with James May, my phone was going mad with all my school friends messaging OMG have you just see Mr x and dd has been on the local news but only a short clip.

prampushingdownthehighst · 04/09/2019 08:56

And an old school mate is a continuity announcer on the BBC.

Seeline · 04/09/2019 09:06

My DS performed as part of his school choir on a Sky game show called Bring the Noise a few years ago. It was with Ricky Wilson (who was nice) and Nicole Shitsinger (who wasn't) Tiny Tempa was one of the guests and he was nice too.

Didn't see it as we don't have Sky Sad

elliejjtiny · 04/09/2019 09:09

Dh was in a documentary on channel 4 about weird hobbies. He was filming all day for a 2 minute appearance. He's also been in take a break, the mirror and the sun.

x2boys · 04/09/2019 09:14

Wow lovesapinot, yes I do remember why don't you, just switch off your Tv set and something less boring instead! very impressed!

ImportantWater · 04/09/2019 09:18

@lovesapinot I had my name read out on Why Don’t You - they sent a letter so I would know when to watch, I told everyone, and my grandad watched the whole thing and said “I couldn’t work out which one was you lass”. He thought I was one of the presenters, but you really were - kudos!

x2boys · 04/09/2019 09:19

dancingthroughthedark · 04/09/2019 09:32

In a major BBC drama series some years ago based on a true story, one of the most famous scenes is at night and candlelit. The scene opens with a hand holding a candle. I am holding that candle! I was however more excited to discover the costume I wore which you didn't see had an old label still attached showing it had been worn previously by Emma Thompson in Howard's End!

PanamaPattie · 04/09/2019 09:33

My colleague won £250k on “Who wants to be a Millionaire” years ago.

Ponoka7 · 04/09/2019 09:43

I worked with someone who was on "don't tell the Bride". She'd gone about the perfect wedding day that she'd had, for years and it did look perfect.

Then years, later, she did an interview slagging off the whole thing. I think she was after money.

I kniw a few people who've been on 'come dine with me'. All had goid experiences and two were invited onto 'big brother' after show thing'. They said that was fantastic.

By accident, we watched my DD's 19 year old friend on naked attraction. Which we all regret, but she kept it a complete secret.

There's a guy always around my local shopping area that went on NA and he has no regrets. He's also done some minor tv work because of it.

A Friends Sister was a regular on 'Take me out'. She said she had a great time and has no regrets.

One of my friends DD and my DDs friend, growing up was on the Pram Face program. It was a birth etc program. Her Dad was featured over the phone, which is typical of him and it was all really real. Just as they are in RL.

Ponoka7 · 04/09/2019 09:46

When i worked in a shop, we had an extra come in. He'd been on the Bill, Coronation Street, Doctors etc.

But when he popped up on a period drama, it spoilt it for me, because it made it very unreal. He had an ongoing part.

Leapyearlover · 04/09/2019 09:48

A friend of mine won a large sum on Pointless. At university my housemate went on a daytime chat show to talk about being a student with insomnia- it was all a fiction.

Kuponut · 04/09/2019 09:57

Well someone I sat next to at school is now a TV and radio presenter (and very much beloved on Mumsnet).

Other than that - my mum got approached as a local councillor by the Benefits Street company asking for any contacts for some follow up in a similar vein and told them to bog off. They also asked my step father to be on Come Dine With Me at one point - thankfully again he politely declined (he can’t cook and would have been easily edited to look like a complete plonker).

Zaphodsotherhead · 04/09/2019 10:02

A local news programme filmed me for one of those five minute insert things about local people who achieve some sort of fame.

It took all day, we kept having to go back and refilm one bit, and I was sweating horribly because I was due at work in the afternoon and was terrified I'd be late!

It was a lovely experience though, although it did make me look a lot more professional that I really am.

Roozy123 · 04/09/2019 10:05

@Zelda93 I used to love blind date!!! Why do i find this so amazing lol. I would have loved to go on there.

OP I worked on the set of gladiators on sky.
Alot of pissed off audience members when they realised how long filming would take and most the competitions you couldn't see depending on what end of the studio you were in!

drspouse · 04/09/2019 10:09

I was interviewed to be on a dating programme about 16 or 17 years ago (shortly before I met DH in fact).
I didn't make the cut, possibly because I didn't look great on camera but I suspect partly because a) I was too fat and b) I wanted a man who accepted the thoughts and opinions I had that were my own. I didn't know much about TV then but I now know they were probably just trying to practice what I'd say if pushed on live TV. However the kinds of questions they were asking were also the kinds of things that the numpties I'd been on dates with tended to ask anyway!

I've also been interviewed briefly about my current job but in a "nice" way, and vv brief. Just a "so you know about X, what would you say about this news that's come out, how about Y and Z, thank you".

I was however interviewed over Skype just before that poor man in Korea where his wife and kids came in the door and my DH was trying to keep the DCs quiet elsewhere in the house. I am SO glad it wasn't after that video went viral or I'd have been petrified it would happen to me!

InsertFunnyUsername · 04/09/2019 10:14

Simon is it Years & Years?

I was an extra in eastenders age 11. Just the back of my head, so you can kinda say I'm a big deal 😏

NeverSayFreelance · 04/09/2019 10:23

Not really the same but a man who lives round the corner from me was one of Danny Dyer's Deadliest Men... he's very nice when I see him at the corner shop!

MerlinsScarf · 04/09/2019 10:41

I met a girl who had been on Fun House! We were holiday friends at a resort kids' club, this was my life's ambition at the time so I was very impressed.

This makes me practically an A-lister, right?

SimonJT · 04/09/2019 10:51

@InsertFunnyUsername decent detective work

InsertFunnyUsername · 04/09/2019 10:59

Sorry Simon didn't want to out you but I had to know Grin

P.s it was the Graham Norton hint, I'm a fan of both him and Y&Y, so remembered the guest line up Blush
