Do you know anyone that has been on a TV programme?

Whether it’s a dating one, a quiz show, a talent one like X Factor or reality TV... Do you know anyone that’s been on a TV programme? Or have you?!

I like hearing about what it’s actually like behind the scenes on the programmes. DS is reasonably close with someone who was on Love Island. He said you’re told exactly who to speak to and what to talk about (shock...) and that some of the people who are portrayed as horrible and moody are the nicest people in there.

Any stories of your own?

Years ago my brother was seeing a lass for about 5 months

Anyway it all got nasty-he’s laid back and she really wasn’t-she turned everything into a row-which ended up banging on my parents door at 3am howling about how she needed to speak to him and punching my mother in the face when she tried to tell her he wasn’t in (he really wasn’t-he was staying with family that night)

They broke up and he moved on with his life

About a year later he was in bed after a night out and slowly and painfully turned over to turn the tv on with his big toe

The Trisha show came on and after a few minutes he heard a voice that sank into his still pissed brain

It was the lass he’d broken up with trying to (loudly) sort things out with another bloke on the show-he thinks she may have been pregnant

He says he’s never got over a hangover so fast in his life!

I've been on loads in my work capacity as a commentator on some social issues. Kilroy, Breakfast TV, all the news programmes and a number of documentary programmes and series. The last one was with a US film crew last week.

Also when they were little my DD was in a channel ident for a children's TV company and my son was in a tech advert.

When I was at uni a friend was on the Price is Right and won everything.

cattaxi · 03/09/2019 21:40

I was on a Welsh kids tv show & Rhys Ifans gunged me on a giant burger 😂 good times!

MsJuniper · 03/09/2019 21:49

I won the jackpot on Tipping Point - a few people were mean about me on Twitter but the money made up for it.

I was filmed for an item on Bleu Limousin for the opening of the first non-hospital obesity clinic in France. I was squeezing juice out of the central core of oranges that 2 of us were using to prepare and orange and chicory salad starter for lunch. I'd segmented the oranges with a knife and was getting the juice of all the pithy bit to add to the dressing and was wearing a half hoop of 4 diamonds that shone like anything under the lights, hence they focussed on it.

Sadly, I didn't keep a copy of the tape when it was available on the site, and so all I have is one still. It was 30kg ago, and (only) another 35-40 ish to go.

(It's really easy to gain 60kg when you have an underactive thyroid that takes 10 years to get a diagnosis and another 15+ and ongoing to get the right treatment.)

Everythingmagnolia · 03/09/2019 22:03

@MsJuniper please tell us more about Tipping Point, I would love to go on!

ongranaryplease · 03/09/2019 22:17

Oh my gosh there’s loads of you! I love hearing all of these. It’s nice when you hear that some of the presenters are just as lovely as they seem on TV.

Yes TheDragonFromDreams DS’s friend who was on a programme said the same about editing. The one who was made out to be very unkind and always featured whilst in a bad mood was actually very kind and sweet.

PennyDreadfuI I can still remember as a child when I found out that TV sets were a thing. I was horrified that it wasn’t all real houses Grin

Also big round of applause to everyone who has won quiz shows!

I've been on a few bits and bobs too. It's nice meeting other 'extras', there's a few odd ones about. It's quite dull as there's a lot of waiting around but we're generally well looked after, good food and plenty of tea 😊

Girasole02 · 03/09/2019 22:27

I was on The Really Useful Show. Esther mcvey was the presenter!

Frazzlerock · 03/09/2019 22:29

My sister was on Dinner Dates, and DP was on Fifteen To One and did really well, he came home with a trophy 😁

Ohbuggerlugs · 03/09/2019 22:34

I’ve NC and I don’t really want to say because it’s very outing, but I starred on a series 5 years ago on I believe all but 1-2 episodes. I shut down all of my social media the day of the release because within an hour my Twitter account went up to 20k followers and people were both lovely and awful. Some people have my autograph and pictures with me - now I’m no one (last person noticed me 1 year ago). I couldn’t bare to pursue it any further it was awful being in the spotlight. You have to really want it I think, and even then the negative impact can be crazy. Unless you put yourself in an untouchable place like A List celebs, it’s very dark - and even for them it’s still hard.

Witchend · 03/09/2019 22:37

DD2 was on the one show when little and on a news article not very long ago with a performance she was doing.
DD1 and dh have been on Songs of Praise (twice)

ButiLoveHim32 · 03/09/2019 22:43

My dh right now! We are watching it on catch up and the phones are all going mad with people messaging. He is wearing a hat and a mask though so only people who know him/his job can spot him. It's nothing exciting, glamorous or something that will make our fortune. It's a new documentary about the NHS/hospital.

HotChocolateLover · 03/09/2019 22:43

My son was on Real Rescues when he was about 8. The show actually contacted us as he had won several awards for looking after me following epileptic seizures. They played a clip of the 999 call and Nick Knowles asked him some questions. It was very chilled and a lovely day out.

PastaSauceHoarder · 03/09/2019 22:46

My old RE teacher from high school went on an episode of Embarrassing Bodies. It wasn't for anything too bad but it was still a bit off-putting - I really fancied him up until then. Blush

Many many years ago now, when I was young and foolish, I went on the Vanessa show (which later became the Trisha show and then Jeremy Kyle!). It was eye opening. They put us all up in a hotel the night before, but there was a menu for regular guests and a minimal menu for Vanessa guests! After dinner, the production staff ran between me and other guests saying “so and so is going to say this, what will you say in response?” Etc. So although I wasn’t told what to say, they knew how it was going to go. I went with a friend, I was on stage and she was in the audience. I was able to take my kids (they were around 5 at the time) and they had a lovely studio tour, got to play with the cameras and had unlimited snacks in the green room so they loved it! Once we saw it on TV we realised they chopped and changed and edited the hell out of it. So things were out of context to when they were actually said. Oh and we got goodie bags with a mug saying “i’ve been a star on the Vanessa show” Grin We actually had several calls in the months that followed asking if we’d go back on but once was enough for me! We were minor local celebs at the school gates for a while but it was all soon forgotten, thank god!

Coffeeonthesofa · 03/09/2019 22:47

A few years ago now a friends house was featured in Changing Rooms, awful rushed interior decoration programme. For folk who remember it, the room in their house was done as cheap and nasty as it looked on screen. They didn’t have floppy sleeved Lawrence. When it was all over they had a house party to show it off then redecorated it straight away.

TildaKauskumholm · 03/09/2019 22:49

Was in a TV drama series while living abroad (was a teacher at the time). It was great fun, was flown to the filming location and put up in a fancy hotel. Never watched it, but when I told DH about it he tracked it down on YouTube.

Knittingnanny · 03/09/2019 22:54

My youngest son was on countdown a couple of years ago but didn’t win, he really enjoyed it though.

Pinkarsedfly · 03/09/2019 22:59

A friend of mine was on that weird quiz show with Joe Lycett - The Time It Takes, I think it was called.

My parents were all over the news twenty-odd years ago.

Span1elsRock · 03/09/2019 23:00

My Mum was on Escape to the Country. She works in a small market town where they were filming, and was asked to give some info about the local community etc. Said they were in her shop for nearly an hour and she was on screen for all of 30 seconds Grin. But she said that Johnny was adorable and smelled lovely.

It's one of those random episodes that always gets repeated, and it's a weekly theme on her FB page "Oh we just saw you on TV..........." Hmm

Likethebattle · 03/09/2019 23:03

I worked for a national tv company and was interviewed on a teatime chat show (like the one show on a much smaller scale). One of my friends is related to an A list, very famous actor, it’s weird seeing him in family shots at weddings etc.

My ex is an actor and had been in several things in the past and is good friends with a few famous folk.

A workmate was on a tv gave show and won £1k.

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 03/09/2019 23:08

I was in a BBC documentary thing about people in my home town and the effects of austerity on public sector workers v private sector workers. I was coerced into taking part by a fellow union rep - they wanted three people from our organisation and were very specific. They already had a man and a woman who had been chosen from the volunteers but they wanted a union rep, ideally a female one with children. I was the only one who fitted the bill.

HarrySnotter · 03/09/2019 23:08

I've been in Taggart, Monarch of the Glen and Hamish Macbeth. In my previous life! 😁
