Do you know anyone that has been on a TV programme?

Whether it’s a dating one, a quiz show, a talent one like X Factor or reality TV... Do you know anyone that’s been on a TV programme? Or have you?!

I like hearing about what it’s actually like behind the scenes on the programmes. DS is reasonably close with someone who was on Love Island. He said you’re told exactly who to speak to and what to talk about (shock...) and that some of the people who are portrayed as horrible and moody are the nicest people in there.

Any stories of your own?

I accidentally gatecrashed Songs of Praise but thankfully the majority was edited out.

DH, SIL, BIL and I were in Tenby. BIL drove a convertible and one evening we decided to do for a drive around the town. BIL ramped up the music which was annoying as we'd hoped for a quiet drive, and headed for the harbour.

If you know Tenby there is a church down a windy road down to the bottom of the harbour. As BIL turned into the road, music full whack, I looked above and there were lots of people on the harbour walls. How odd I'm thinking. At that point we realised we'd gatecrashed an open air songs of praise.
So mortified was I, I threw my face in DH's lap, which then from above looked like, well, you can work that out.

When it aired you just see this little black convertible reversing up the harbour road at speed.

I've been on a few current affairs programmes /documentaries as a talking head in a professional capacity. I work in a different field now so haven't done it for a while.

ShirleyPhallus · 04/09/2019 13:12

I thought the lead singer from years and years goes out with the guy from clean bandit - @SimonJT are you a secret celeb?!

Paddyodoors · 04/09/2019 13:17

My mother in law was on Surprise Surprise back in the 80s. She set up her friend. I've seen a VHS tape of my MIL on the sofa with Cilla. My DH remembers waiting backstage in the green room.

Talcott2007 · 04/09/2019 13:34

I have a friend who is footballer who is fairly regularly on TV and my family were on Family Family Fortunes some time in the mid-90's with Les Dennis - but there is no evidence of the episode because it didn't record properly on the night it aired (ironically on the VHS recorder that my Uncle won on the show!) Never been able to find the episode anywhere! My DGF was also in a very old (b&w) documentary about Steam Trains - he was a driver! I was also nearly on one of those 'say yes to the dress' types shows - but chickened out at the last minute

I spotted my ex-boyfriend on Crime Watch on their "Most Wanted" face thing once Blush

TheTurn0fTheScrew · 04/09/2019 13:52

We had a locus at work who booked 3 weeks off and told no-one why
turned out he got a free butt lift on Cosmetic Surgery Live. He was thrilled.

NigesFakeWalkingStick · 04/09/2019 14:02

I've been interviewed on radio for BBC a good couple of times for segments on mental health.

My old neighbour was on Come Dine With Me - he'd paid an interior designer a huge sum of money to spruce up his house when he found out he was appearing so his flat looked nothing like it had beforehand (we used to hang out. He still tells everyone he's been on CDWM 😂

LittleSweet · 04/09/2019 14:40

Limth, I wonder that about an ex boyfriend too! He's very violent.

Evertheconundrum · 04/09/2019 14:47

Me!

SimonJT · 04/09/2019 14:48

@ShirleyPhallus Ha, no I’m not, that ended quite a while ago and before we got together, we do however look very similar, O has a distinct type!

Evertheconundrum · 04/09/2019 14:51

I was on Dispatches and they changed what I said by adding someone else's voice over mine!!!! The producers are AWFUL

chesterdraws1 · 04/09/2019 14:53

My Nan was on Songs of Praise.

Old English teacher was on Don't Forget Your Toothbrush.

DF was on Wogan.

I was on Mallet's Mallet Grin

spiderlight · 04/09/2019 14:57

My friend was on Deal or No Deal and won a tidy amount, which all went to a really good cause so I was chuffed to bits for him. My DH has been interviewed on Radio 4 and in two documentaries relating to his work, and many years ago (before I knew her), my friend was one of the kids sitting around Jimmy Savile's chair on Jim'll Fix It - she said he groped her mum backstage and tried to kiss her on the lips.

HoobleDooble · 04/09/2019 15:02

One of my friends was part of an acrobatic dance troupe which performed on Saturday Superstore, another friend was on Deal or No Deal (won about £7,000), a bloke from my son's Tai Kwon-Do class plays the copper who arrested Roy Cropper and got his foot run over by Izzy in her wheelchair on Coronation Street ... oh and my best mate was in the background on the local news in the mid 80s when they did a slot about kids skiving out of school and smoking (her mum was delighted 😁)

Kalim8 · 04/09/2019 15:04

I've seen a couple of my former lecturers explaining things on news segments, 2 colleagues have been on the Chase at different times (one won! Hooray!), someone I know went on ninja warrior and a couple of people I was at uni with are extras, one was on Dr who, the other in a US series that hasn't aired here.

A girl at primary school's house was used in an ad (pot noodle I think?) and my aunt's house featured on "to buy or not to buy".

WarmSausageTea · 04/09/2019 15:18

DP and I were on Escape to the Country, which was a great experience. Nicki Chapman was totally lovely, but very professional and sharp as a tack. We liked one of the houses, but couldn’t make it work, and ended up escaping to a different part of the country altogether.

I was chatting with a guy who I had seen on First Dates. The date had gone badly, but from what he said, the reality was even worse; his date was steaming and the production crew had to intervene a couple of times. They were going to invite him back for a second first date, but I don’t know if it happened. I hope so, he was a nice guy and came across very well.

SospanFrangipan · 04/09/2019 15:22

My FIL was on The Weakest Link before I met DH. I also know Jay Hutton off Tattoo Fixers.

problembottom · 04/09/2019 17:17

DP appears on TV and radio as a football pundit but much more excitingly a friend of ours was on Come Dine With Me when it came to our suburb. Came last and got absolutely slaughtered by viewers as he can be a bit full of it.

TheJellyBabyMadeMeDoIt · 04/09/2019 17:34

OH and I were interviewed by a channel 5 crew during our holiday this summer. It was about Brits Abroad and they approached us as we were strolling along the prom minding our own business and clearly looking very British

We'd had a jug of sangria with lunch and although not drunk I was very animated whilst being interviewed. Poor OH is so quiet and not one for the spotlight and so out of his comfort zone. DD said it was hilarious watching us from afar, I was incredibly animated apparently 🤣

MuseumOfYou · 04/09/2019 17:52

This Monday 9th, 5.30pm. My DH, dancing.

Do you know anyone that has been on a TV programme?
DistantVworp · 04/09/2019 19:01

I was on Jim'l Fix It many many years ago... Not something I remember with much pleasure though! I wasn't one of the main things - it was a school trip one weekend for the boarders and I got a surprise phone call to my parents. Late 80s so no phone calls to parents during term time, just letters.

StarWanderer · 04/09/2019 19:20

I'm currently on Saving Lives at Sea Grin

carrie74 · 04/09/2019 19:45

Nothing of any substance but I do work in telly world (at least one of my shows has been mentioned). I wouldn't want to be on telly (although I do love a game show and like the idea of winning some cash...).

bookworm14 · 04/09/2019 20:07

My choir performed on the Christmas episode of QI a couple of years ago.
