I think she stays to keep the family together & also she knows he is likely to go off the rails eg partying/gambling/alcohol so I think staying with him is probably the only way she can exert some control. She probably turns a bit of a blind eye but gets mad when he is indiscreet. The tweet looks like a way to reduce Colleens humiliation, maybe the delay was because they had to pay off some girls/get them to sign a NDA.

In the 90s my friend briefly dated a footballer (not massively famous). We went to Chinawhite & OMG the way girls through themselves at him & his friends was eye opening. My friend ended it a couple of weeks later (the guy seemed nice) as she knew she couldn't handle it. I wouldn't be able to either.

I think there's a lot of Wayne hate because he's working class and from Liverpool to be honest. Loads of famous men cheat without getting half of the stick he does.

Although I did read a long time ago that a bell of a lot of 'celebrity marriages' are business arrangenents. Instigated by PR and managers.

I always thought that about DB, and that since Rebecca Loos they've simply tightened up the PR around him. Money and fame could give people the power to do that previously and whitewash everything but I do think now with the internet and everyone having a phone handy it's going to be harder and harder to deny. Several months ago there was an epic thread about the royal family, of all things. It went off on all sorts of tangents and one of them was Gary Lineker. I won't go into details but let's just say it was speculated that he might have been a tad nervous when #metoo was in full swing.

Would they do? Is there that much interest in footballers' private lives these days? For a really big star like Rooney or David Beckham - especially when their wives are famous too - sure. But does anyone really care if some random Arsenal or Man City player is putting it about? It's sort of expected.

Plus the whole WAG thing has had it's day, thank god. Could anyone name Harry Kane or Jordan Pickford's wife? I couldn't.

I do know the name of Harry Kane’s wife because again, local, and they seem very much like young Wayne and Colleen ie childhood sweethearts. But HK isn’t like Rooney at all as far as I’ve heard, he’s a good family man and takes good care of his wife.

I went to the same catholic girls school that Coleen did but I left sixth form when she would have started.
It was a very strict school run by nuns in the heart of Croxteth which is were Coleen and Wayne grew up, he went to the catholic boys school over the road where my brother went.

Whilst I can say I'm catholic, I do not go to church unless a special occasion. At school it was a constant fixture and was part of being there but nobody I know left and became a nun.

It's all too easy to say that Coleen is a staunch catholic. I have never seen her papped at Sunday service. She's away for most of the year as it is. I think it's an easy answer to say she puts up with him because of her "faith"- more likely she doesn't want to be on her own with 4 kids.

Shame- he has it all, a beautiful wife and kids, more money than he could ever spend and a great career history. Why ruin it all for a quick shag? I don't get it

Thanks. The way some people here talk about Catholics you'd swear they were a different species. I also went to an all-girls Catholic school run by nuns and I'm just as liberal - probably more so in some ways - than my friends who went to non-religious schools. Being a Catholic might have made a major difference 50 years ago but not now.

But he isn't ruining it all! He gets to have all the side pieces he wants and still gets to go back to his loyal wife and enjoy the warmth and security of family life. It's pretty much cost-free for him.

I think it would be hard to kiss and tell nowadays. Look at all the criticism women get for sleeping with celebrities. There is still an awful lot of double standards. Plus all the signing of contracts which happens to gap women who are brought in to 'entertain' these married men.

Whoever said Colleen is doing a Charlotte Lucas, I'm not sure CL would've married Mr Collins if she'd had £20 million of her own! It would have to be some prenup not to give her a slice of his assets too, especially as they've been married over a decade, the legal position wrt prenups was quite different then and there are lots of kids. Agree her biggest earning days are behind her, but if they were divorcing and she felt like it, she'd surely get well into the six figures at least for spilling the beans to the rags.

Hmm true. But that's not to say she couldn't negotiate a share of his assets without one. It's a long marriage, four children, she appears to be the primary carer, most of it was earned after they married and all of it after they got together.

I don't think Coleen leaving Wayne would teach her sons anything. Wayne would get married again or not as he pleased and carry on doing as he pleases. It's not really a threat. As the sons of a man like this they will probably copy his behavior whether or not she leaves him

Because most footballers aren't like that. My DS is at a famous club and I know a fair few footballers... some premier league, some lower leagues. All of them are decent people but decent hard working people don't sell newspapers.

You get dicks and cheaters in all walks of life. Bad boy footballers would still be arseholes if they worked in Tesco.

WR isn't even a current player in the Premier League, yet he is constantly wheeled out as the epitome of a footballer. It's just not true.
All of the footballers I know work hard and are good people.

Rebecca Loos was all over the media for years. Some people would thrive on the publicity and likely be booked in the next series of I'm a celebrity jungle/house half wit.

Plus as another poster has said, in the age of camera phones and online gossip, there's no longer big money in kiss 'n' tells, unless it was something major, like say, a senior royal. For a footballer to cheat on his wife is pretty much par for the course.
