One of my orthopaedic surgeons was called Christmas.

Camomila · 12/08/2019 11:32

I went to nursery with a Gaia in Italy. 'Gaia' is mother earth in Italian mythology.

There was a little Clementine at the park recently, lovely name.

DS has a little kindergarten friend called Jacoby. I think the name is Hebrew, I think it's slightly nicer than the usual Jacob.

SillyBillyBandy · 12/08/2019 11:42

Is it Gay-a or Guy-a?

I also know a toddler Maverick. I think it’s a big name to live up to. Hmm

theGirlWithManyFaces · 12/08/2019 11:44

It's pronounced guy-a (my friend loved the name when she heard it whilst travelling and called her dog Gaia)

hsegfiugseskufh · 12/08/2019 11:45

a little boy who goes to my sons nursery is called Aslan. Makes me smile every time I hear it.

Gaia (Guy-a) is “Mother Earth” in pre-Christian/pagan mythology, and popularised in the 1980s by James Lovelock’s Gaia theory of the evolution of the Earth. It is quite well used in hippy/pagan cultures. I know about 3. Emma Thompson has a daughter called Gaia.

I’ve met a Comfort. He was Nigerian, where I understand that virtue names are commonly used.

I went to school with a boy called Eliezer, a bible name. Loved that babe, have never come across it since I left school in 1989!

flumpybear · 12/08/2019 11:53

Barley
Ananya (means unique)

girlandboy · 12/08/2019 11:57

I knew a little French girl called Océane which I thought was a fabulous name. And she did live by the sea ...

Scruffalicious · 12/08/2019 12:02

I was delighted to meet a baby Atticus (I'm a TKaM fan) and a toddler Elvis. Quirky and sweet!

BikeRunSki · 12/08/2019 12:04

I know a toddler Raven

loriat · 12/08/2019 12:07

I met a young woman called Heavenly-Joy recently, which I thought was lovely.

BikeRunSki · 12/08/2019 12:09

Oh, and I also went to school with a girl called Hopie. I loved that. P

Tractortime · 12/08/2019 12:10

I've also met a Maverick. I think it's possibly the most "my child is more special than yours" name ever (and as a PP said, a lot to live up to).

Unusual names that I like however... Oakley. And Eartha. Though apparently it's rhyming slang for shit.

Pieceofpurplesky · 12/08/2019 12:11

Meadow.

Camomila · 12/08/2019 12:15

Generally pronounced Gai-ya in Italian.
