Who would do something like this? Scary.

😳 I cant imagine that poor mother.

Wiltshirelass2019 · 04/08/2019 20:43

Terrifying. What an upsetting story. I hope the little boy is ok

Soola · 04/08/2019 20:43

A 17 year old male has been arrested for attempted murder!

The mother was with the boy, it must have been awful.

ThomasRichard · 04/08/2019 20:47

I just came on to see if there was a post about this. I can’t imagine how terrified that little boy and his mother must have been. A complete stranger by the sounds of it. I hope the little boy recovers.

pennypineapple · 04/08/2019 20:47

It's horrific. The BBC article says that there is nothing to suggest the teenager was known to the boy, so it sounds like it was just a random attack. That poor mother.

HerRoyalNotness · 04/08/2019 20:48

Similar thing happened at a mall in the US a few months back.

Makes me want to stay home with the doors locked and never go out again

Soola · 04/08/2019 20:50

He actually fell 5 floors but that is a hello of a long drop. I can’t see how he will survive that but maybe a miracle will happen.

So far they are saying the teenager wasn’t known to the boy.

fascinated · 04/08/2019 20:50

Terrible and has really triggered my anxiety and ptsd. Wish the BBC (And mumsnet posters) wouldn’t put the full horrifying description in the headline/thread title...

Minai · 04/08/2019 20:50

That’s horrific. That poor little boy and his mum. I hope he survives but he fell 5 floors Sad

Designerenvy · 04/08/2019 20:53

Terrifying ! That poor family.
Wasn't it in Germany last week that a mother and child were thrown in front of an oncoming train by a complete stranger too?
The boy died but the mum was unharmed ( well physically anyway).
It's unimaginable behaviour .
RIP

stayfit · 04/08/2019 20:53

@fascinated I know exactly how you feel. I was planning a trip to the gallery in a few weeks and now I don't feel like doing it :(

YourVagesty · 04/08/2019 20:55

It makes absolutely no sense and is heartbreaking. I hope he pulls through. Sad

fascinated · 04/08/2019 20:56

I was in Lon recently with the kids and I had a panic attack on the Tube platform because DP was holding our daughter and standing closer to the edge than I could handle. I was convinced some nutter would come and push them off. Reading this makes me feel sick and I can’t imagine how the mother and any other adult that might have been there with the boy and his mum must be feeling. Let alone the suffering of the child. Unbelievable. And in front of crowds of people, witnesses. Dangerous people on the streets.

Designerenvy · 04/08/2019 20:56

That RIP was for the German boy, hope the boy today makes a full recovery.
These things happen.so rarely, we are all blind to be scared but it can't stop us living our lives , but i can understand people being scared .

Troels · 04/08/2019 20:57

Bloody hell, poor kid. I felt sick just reading the title.
What in heck would possess anyone to do such a thing.

Mrsjayy · 04/08/2019 20:57

I saw the tail end of this on the news so wasn't sure where it had happened it is horrific that poor boy and of course hisfamily

GettickledGETTICKLEDbyspiders · 04/08/2019 20:57

I bet it was a ‘funny’ dare for snapchat or whatever thing it is now.
It’s awful. Poor boy. Poor mum.

origamiunicorn · 04/08/2019 20:59

This shocked me when I read it.

What sent a chill through me though was the fact he didn't run or struggle when he was stopped. The people who apprehended him said he remained calm. Chilling. Who does this?

Is it just me or does there seem to have been a recent spate of people bring pushed off or into things by strangers recently. Train tracks more recently and now this.

fascinated · 04/08/2019 20:59

Statistically, I know it is a small risk but it’s such a catastrophic one if it happens. And the sheer ... evil ... of it. I am not one to bandy such words around but... or a drug-induced mental state? What could motivate such a crime? Impulse? Hallucinations? Paranoia? Mental illness? Or badness? Who knows? Wouldn’t make it any easier to live with.

HavelockVetinari · 04/08/2019 21:01

Poor wee boy Sad

justasking111 · 04/08/2019 21:05

Our friends wife works with care in the community, this does not surprise her at all. She has been attacked for absolutely no rational reason at all.

Echobelly · 04/08/2019 21:06

This is awful - I can only imagine the perpetrator is extremely mentally unwell. My first thoughts was could it have been some prank gone horribly wrong, but the calmness of the guy when apprehended suggests something exceptionally wrong with him, unless he was in shock after it being an accident, I suppose.

Nextphonewontbesamsung · 04/08/2019 21:07

There are always random murders and attempted murders and it isn't possible to protect yourself from them so allowing extremely rare encounters such as this to fuel your (ones) anxiety is really ill-advised. All my heartfelt thoughts and healing vibes go to this baby and his family.
