Is it ok to wear (fancy) trainers to a wedding?

We are going to a friends wedding, it is on a fancy golf course type venue.

I have 2 children I will need to supervise, cannot last in heels for longer than 30 minutes... health problems, mainly physical mean I have extensive pain when active for long periods of time.

I have a lovely 1950's dress I am wearing, I've found some lovely blue d.c / converse style shoes which would suit the dress but worry how I look

Is it too informal?

Not in a million years would I have been concerned about a guest at my wedding wearing trainers?Confused

Could you manage a low espadrille wedge? There are some nice ones around, and generally not expensive.

My dress is similar to this, however the bottom is pale blue and I am adding a petty coat

I like the idea of a wedge, but I would go over on my ankle at any uneven ground

... such a drama queen.. this is why I don't go anywhere Hmm

I really don't think Tevas are THAT frumpy!

Excuse my not very pretty foot but I feel compelled to show you that these are not in the same league as Hotter by some margin Grin

Look for some supportive, comfy flats. Trainers are not for weddings. I’d be a bit pissed off of someone rocked up to my wedding in trainers

DewDropsonKittens · 29/07/2019 21:22

Does pretty dress, hair and make up not compensate for a smart trainer @user

I would judge someone who wore trainers to a wedding. They are far too casual for normal weddings! There are so many flat shoes to choose from that will provide you with support. You are just making excuses because I can see that you’ve already made up your mind.

DewDropsonKittens · 29/07/2019 21:24

@INeedNewShoes (you and me both hahaaha)

you've got quite thin feet.. mine wouldn't get in the straps.

I'm fearful this thread may show up on a fetish site if I post a pic of mine now haha

You can get metallic or sparkly birkenstocks but for 40 pounds you would need to shop around. If yiu must wear trainers I'd go glittery and less clumpy. Those have a really big platform. Could you wear heels for the ceremony then change to flats?

Do you only wear trainers day to day?

ItchySeveredFoot · 29/07/2019 21:25

I have that yellow dress as a skirt. I love it.

millstonegrit · 29/07/2019 21:26

I feel your pain! I have a problem with my foot which means I live in trainers. I have tried to wear shoes and it's just impossible to find ones that I'm comfortable in and like you I avoid certain events because I am unable to dress in a way others find socially acceptable. Fuck Em and wear what you are comfortable in!

DewDropsonKittens · 29/07/2019 21:26

Not at all @pretendapony infact I would love nothing more than to not have this issue

I can't wear hard back shoes as they destroy the back of my foot with rubbing, I struggle to fit my fat feet in to high street label as their wide fitting doesn't fit unless I size up

Sorry to sound like I am making excuses.. but it really isn't the case..

I said the sparkle idea is a good one as sketchers do a sparkle shoe..

Wear your trainers! If it was my wedding I'd rather my guests go home pain free than wear something they're uncomfortable in or those fucking ugly Boden shoes.
Please do what makes you comfortable, I'd bet a majority of women will end up barefoot straight after the ceremony anyway!! And other guests ought to be looking at the bride and groom and not your feet!
Have a fab time OP.

DewDropsonKittens · 29/07/2019 21:29

@buildbuildings

I have smart sketchers for work, cath kidston trainers or boots for home

I definitely can't wear a heal.. I would be in whole body agony within half an hour

Those trainers are not that fancy! How about soft maryjanes if you need support. Skechers do some.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 29/07/2019 21:30

Navy sandals very cheap

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 29/07/2019 21:30

Those trainers don't look supportive at all.

KenAdams · 29/07/2019 21:32

How about some flatforms

Kiki275 · 29/07/2019 21:34

My BF in her own words has 'short fat feet' and swears by hotter shoes.

Would something like this work: www.hotter.com/gb/en/wendy-heels-wendxs-product?fit=Standard+Fit&colour=Iridescent

HUZZAH212 · 29/07/2019 21:34

The dress is lovely OP. For trainers you could switch out the laces for sparkle ones or ribbons to dress them up.

percheron67 · 29/07/2019 21:35

Only if they are running 100 metres.

NerrSnerr · 29/07/2019 21:35

The Mary Janes don't really fit with the 50s dress and trainer combo though.

I think you should go with your original choice OP.

pinkunicornsparkles · 29/07/2019 21:35

Sorry I don't think trainers are ok for a wedding. Next do nice sparkly sandals in wide fit or even extra wide if needed
