Is it ok to wear (fancy) trainers to a wedding?

We are going to a friends wedding, it is on a fancy golf course type venue.

I have 2 children I will need to supervise, cannot last in heels for longer than 30 minutes... health problems, mainly physical mean I have extensive pain when active for long periods of time.

I have a lovely 1950's dress I am wearing, I've found some lovely blue d.c / converse style shoes which would suit the dress but worry how I look

Is it too informal?

Sorry- just seen your comment on Clark’s! Have you tried their wide fittings?

Whitney168 · 29/07/2019 20:36

I think they're cute OP, but agree that Converse not great for foot support (and can't see anything about those that suggests they'd be different) and that if your feet are too wide for Clarks shoes then they're also likely to be too wide for Converse.

And I agree with pp about previous suggestions. Those brown fit flop ones in particular are hideous.

Cross posting on Clark’s - clearly not able to type fast enough!!

Wear what you want! I'm sure the bride won't give a stuff. I was at a wedding last week and all the bridesmaids were in matching flats, looked cute.

M&S do good supportive flats though, if you do ever need to buy a pair for something which isn't this wedding.

sparklefarts · 29/07/2019 20:38

Oh grief do not wear those fit flops either!
Trainers over any of the shoes recommended so far.

Aridane · 29/07/2019 20:39

Do it. Plenty of brides even now wear funky converse/trainers underneath their dresses

Brides’ shoes aren’t really on show though if she’s wearing a long dress...

NoSauce · 29/07/2019 20:39

Op the blue ones are fine, but different but they’ll look nice and should be comfy.

DewDropsonKittens · 29/07/2019 20:40

I am wondering about the sparkle idea.. as I live in sketchers usually and they have some nice sparkle shoes

Grin at the fitflops being hideous.

InsertFunnyUsername · 29/07/2019 20:40

If people are turning up in some of the shoes linked, then your trainers will look extra fancy! 😂

IvanaPee · 29/07/2019 20:42

My god! The absolute state of the shoes being posted on here 😂😂😂

@DewDropsonKittens I think trainers might be fine but the ones you’ve posted are very casual. Though lovely!

The “trend” you speak of seems to be limited to teens, really, or causal day wear. Not really for a woman attending a wedding.

Instatwat · 29/07/2019 20:43

Jesus, I can’t decide whether the Boden ones or the Fitflops (I hate myself for typing that) are worse.

If you turned up to my wedding in the blue DCs I wouldn’t bat an eyelid. I think they’re nice.

I am pushing sixty but have had the feet of an eighty year old since I was twenty, because of rheumatoid arthritis. Ecco has been my friend. Also look at some of the German brands like Reiker. There may be a middle way.

Ecco are expensive, but in my experience they are good quality and last for a long time, and aren't as frumpy as they used to be.

But wear whatever you want. I love the sound of your fifties dress.

DewDropsonKittens · 29/07/2019 20:45

I am completely clueless about how to look to be honest..

I'm not really keen on going as I hate going anywhere people will see me

Bit expensive but might look good?

CamdenTownie · 29/07/2019 20:46

Nothing fancy about those blue trainers! They look like toddler shoes!

I'm sure you could find something more appropriate, have to agree that it's generally teenagers wearing floaty dresses with converse.

Surely if you don't want people looking at you, you wouldn't wear trainers to a wedding 🤔

StillSmallVoice · 29/07/2019 20:47

I bet you will look gorgeous whatever shoes you wear.

INeedNewShoes · 29/07/2019 20:48

I would definitely not wear trainers.

Perhaps some Teva sandals might JUST be smart enough. I have very flat feet with minimal padding and am prone to stress fractures and I can walk a few miles in my Teva Kayentas as an occasional thing.

From the side they look a bit functional but from above they look pretty.

FraggleRocking · 29/07/2019 20:49

If you like Skechers maybe something from their Bobs range would work? More of a slip on shoe than a trainer but still has comfort and support plus they have some shiny or lace ones if you wanted something ‘prettier’.

BlueCornsihPixie · 29/07/2019 20:49

What about slip on trainers? Like kind of plimsol/slip on one's?

I always think they look a bit better with dresses and things than lace up one's, and you can get like leopard print one's or sparkly one's or whatever that look a bit more like you've made an effort. I don't know the technical term

Or some white leather one's?

NoSauce · 29/07/2019 20:50

TEVA SANDALS Shock

Nope, never, not on your nelly. There is never any requirement for such frumpy footwear!

IvanaPee · 29/07/2019 20:53

So far I think the Sketchers Bobs are the best suggestion.
