Is it ok to wear (fancy) trainers to a wedding?

We are going to a friends wedding, it is on a fancy golf course type venue.

I have 2 children I will need to supervise, cannot last in heels for longer than 30 minutes... health problems, mainly physical mean I have extensive pain when active for long periods of time.

I have a lovely 1950's dress I am wearing, I've found some lovely blue d.c / converse style shoes which would suit the dress but worry how I look

Is it too informal?

Hotters shoes?

howwudufeel · 29/07/2019 20:55

In defence of my fitflop suggestion like all their range they are much nicer when they are being worn. If you swipe to the next picture you will see that I am right Grin

NoSauce · 29/07/2019 20:55

I think the OPs blue ones are the best. Those glitter ones are awful Grin

I wore converse to my own wedding, so am in the "go for it" camp, but I'm sure most people would disagree.

howwudufeel · 29/07/2019 20:55

Hotter shoes. Brilliant suggestion!

viques · 29/07/2019 20:56

I think it also depends on what the other guests are likely to be wearing. If there are going to be other guests wearing stuff on the funky side of funky then blue converse are totally fine and sound rather nice (mine were blue back in the day) .

if it is all pearls and matchy matchy then as others have said ask the bride, who probably won't give a hoot and would rather you were at her wedding comfortable and having fun than siting in the corner wincing.

MatchSetPoint · 29/07/2019 20:56

I would try Clark’s wide selection, they would be much wider than children’s converse! I know you said you can’t fit in Clark’s shoes but the wider selection has much more room in them than girls shoes do. Next wide shoes are really wide too have a look in there!

BlueCornsihPixie · 29/07/2019 20:57

I would go for something like this

www.johnlewis.com/mint-velvet-lila-slip-on-star-trainers/white/p4191128

I know they are expensive and im nlt saying these exact ones, but something that's like got a bit extra detail on so looks like you've got specific wedding shoes on

Nothing canvas or with trainer style details

Poppi89 · 29/07/2019 20:58

What about strappy sandal type shoes as they have more support than the slip on pumps but can still look 'dressy'

Poppi89 · 29/07/2019 20:59

I've just seen the Eloise flats I would defo think they are suitable for a wedding and if it's on grass they would be better than heels

LonnyVonnyWilsonFrickett · 29/07/2019 20:59

God yeah, can't believe I forgot about Hotter - so comfy and around 40% of their stock is actually quite nice.

NerrSnerr · 29/07/2019 20:59

I think the Mint Velvet ones look like orthopaedic shoes. I like the sketchers sparkly trainers but the OP's blue ones are still my favourite.

MrsLinManuelMiranda · 29/07/2019 21:00

I can honesty say that I never gave a thought to what guests wore on their feet to my own wedding, on any wedding come to that. Wear whatever footwear you find comfortable.

NerrSnerr · 29/07/2019 21:01

Weren't PP joking about Hotter shoes because of some of the suggestions on the thread?

Wearenotyourkind · 29/07/2019 21:01

Wear what you want! Life's too short...

Time40 · 29/07/2019 21:02

Those Boden shoes are bloody hideous

I thought, "Ooooh, I fancy those ... " Grin

HUZZAH212 · 29/07/2019 21:02

Any chance we can see the 1950s style dress OP? Or link something similar. A full skirted rockabilly style could take trainers much better than a wrap over or some tea dress styles.

Amy326 · 29/07/2019 21:03

Saltwater sandals are really comfy and supportive (for a sandal) and look nice (imo) so I’d go that route personally, I wouldn’t wear converse to a wedding.

DewDropsonKittens · 29/07/2019 21:07

@HUZZAH212

It is a full rockabilly dress with a petty coat for extra float / spin

I will try and find a picture link

Some of the suggestions are really lovely thank you so much.. but I have a £40 max budget

Don't stress op, this is your friend's wedding and presumably they're your friend for a reason... there is no way your friend is going to mind what you wear on your feet. If it was my wedding and a friend was having this dilemma I really really hope someone would tell them to wear something they're comfortable in and to enjoy the day! Wear the trainers and enjoy yourself. Guaranteed that's what your friend would want.

StillSmallVoice · 29/07/2019 21:12

What Katy said.

Karwomannghia · 29/07/2019 21:13

I think it’s absolutely fine! I’m sure the bride will be too busy to think about your footwear and if she did she’d be ridiculous!

MrHaroldFry · 29/07/2019 21:17

Maybe look at something from HeavenlyFeet? After a bout of Plantar fasciitis, my physio recommended this site to me as I was attending a posh event. They are very very comfortable and, if you chose correctly, can look pretty smart.
Just one example, more on their page.

TheLovleyChebbyMcGee · 29/07/2019 21:17

I'd go for it, but then again, that's what I wear to weddings anyway!!!

I even had a 50s style wedding dress at my own wedding and switched to sparkly cons in the evening.
